  • Isn't it strange how anyone who disagree's with these ruthless people who abuse animals are suddenlt extremists and terrorists and every other name thought up to be-little people who know this is wrong. Do not let anyone tell you any different that animal testing is anything but the abuse of a species that has no voice for itself.

  • It's refreshing to see people that oppose torture and fraud posted here, yeah.... right on......

  • Fuck you for supporting animal torture.

    Stop the torture.

  • @RotisserieiJamie

animal research saves lives, including mine. Thanks so much to the brilliant and brave research scientists and damn the cowardly terrorists who try to stop the life saving research.

  • @jeffmagic32, bullshit.

  • @RotisserieiJamie

You make a strong case, lol. Leave the real discussions to the scientists, ok honey?

  • @jeffmagic32, why torture? Animals can feel pain, they have families, they have emotions and they bleed too. Don't make something suffer and torture them.

Why don't we save the planet? Why can't we just live in harmony with animals and humans?

  • @RotisserieiJamie

Thanks to scientists studying dogs and fish, humanity learned how insulin works in the body. That insight has saved millions and millions of lives. Would you rather a few dogs and fish be left alone, or that millions and millions of lives be saved?

  • @jeffmagic32, complete bullshit. Why would you support torture and inhumane torture on an animal? Disgusting how people support this...

  • @RotisserieiJamie

its a very simple fact. Educate yourself.

  • I'm not looking to scare animal research supporters into silence. They should be wiped from existence. We could do without barbaric animal torcherers.

  • I would really want to see all these people voluntarily go through ONE single experiment usually done on animals, living in a lab with monkeys, dogs and rats until the experiment is over. And then after it I'd like to see them in these pro-torture protests again :)

  • Animal experimentation is nothing but torture to defenseless animals and fraud for human beings. Be species speciific and then cures will be found. How bizaar... people demonstrating for the false hope of stopping an underground movement. Dream on. What comes around goes around, it's the only language you evil people seem to understand. A private discussion is planned at UCLA (Feb 16) but still no public debate because UCLA is incompetant.

  • What a shame these students are being taught to accept cruelty in the name of science. Have they even researched alternatives? It makes me ashamed to be a college student. I won't be brainwashed by my instructors.

  • There are NO alternatives to animal research, you've got alternative methods and complementary methods confused. Nothing can replace animal research yet (and trust me if there was people wouldn't use it) what we have are a series of methods we can use to reduce the number of animals.

  • The term "alternative methods" is just fine. You use them as an alternative to animal testing. In certain types of research, there are alternative methods-- for instance with cosmetic testing, using human tissue is more reliable. Using human subjects is also an option. Also, animal models do not reliably predict how human will react because they have different biological makeups.

  • Using human subjects wouldn't work in practice, you couldn't get the numbers required for a start not to mention a slew of other ethical and practical issues. Furthermore animals and humans are similar enough that animals make good MODELS of humans. They don't have to be identical but they are similar enough that it works (practically every example you can present that this isn't true has been refuted)

  • @elizawyo

Thank you! That's the key word we should know about humans "they have different biological makeups".

Just because Dick doesn't get blinded by his Viagra, doesn't mean that Joe is immune to it

  • Now, as for experiments that are being done where there is no alternative, like putting electrodes into rats' brains to study neuronal activity, maybe they should not be doing those types of studies. If it is unethical to do these experiments on humans, it should be on animals too.

  • Why shouldn't they do experiements that will go onto benefit millions of humans and animals alike? it'd be irresponsible to do otherwise. Also your assuming a moral equivalence between animals and humans one which i disagree with so your last statement i find fault with

  • I feel like it's too easy to say that animals are not as worthy of compassion as humans are. On the one hand, if you say that they are worthy of compassion, then less animals will suffer as a result. If you say that they are not equal to humans then more of them will suffer. I know that human beings are far more advanced than animals biologically, intellectually, etc. but I think that if we think that is evidence to support animal testing, we are wrong

  • When it comes to animal research we have to options, we either put the lives of humans and animals that will benefit from the research first or we put the lives of the animals used for testing first. There is no equal ground here. The reason i would suggest that humans and animals don't have moral equivalency is that humans can have rights as they are able to understand the responsibilities that accompany them, animals have no such capabilities

  • As far as experiments that are impossible to do without animals, I think that we should just not do them. I think that using animals in research takes away from research we could be doing to find alternatives. For instance, during the Bush Administration embryonic stem cell research was banned because you have to kill embryos to get the stem cells. Since it was banned though, they found a way to make adult stem cells into stem cells that could be formed into any kind of human tissue...

  • just like embryonic stem cells. They never would have found this breakthrough if they kept on using embryonic stem cells. Also, I'm having fun having this discussion with you Shukes even if we don't agree. Could you watch part of this "30 days" episode? Tell me why Aysha Akhtar is wrong. Watch from 16:39 until 17:30. I would really appreciate hearing what you think.

  • In order to research better alternatives to animal research we need to better understand how the body works, and in order to do that we need to continue animal research. We aren't going to be able to magic an alternative into existance.

  • I'd happily watch the video if you get me a link

  • Why couldn't we just test on sentenced to death prisoners?

  • Many reasons, one you don't have a big enough sample group, secondly you'd have difficultly with genetic diseases, thirdly you'd have trouble finding people willing to conduct the research.

  • If you care about REAL research than ask UCLA why they had 0 coverage on their FIRST "Alternative" Models to Animal "Research" Conference. What kind of crap is that? Look at all the coverage you had over animal rights activists. Not even the Bruins paper did a srory on the 2 day event held in Jan. 2008.

  • UCLA will NEVER be able to stop the Animal Liberation Front

  • Diseases more often stem from human use of animals (SWINE FLU) than are prevented or cured through human use of animals.

If you care about humanity, the planet, animal welfare, or even your own health, then you won't support animal testing.

  • Unless of course you count anaesthetics, transplants, polio vaccine, asthma inhalers and a continuing list of medicines and treatments that were all developed with animal models. Animal research is a vital tool in medical research so if you don't want medical research continued at all then oppose animal research
