  • 8:40 LOL

  • 7:48, sounds like he got raped in stage

  • OUTSTANDING!

  • Don't get fooled again.

    VOTE OBAMA OUT IN 2012

  • Scot Halpin (Who filled in for Keith in San Fran) died of a brain anerism in 2008. In 2009 Roger posted a tribute to Scot on the Who website. The Who did present Scot with a Who jacket after his performance but another fan ripped it out of his hands as he was exiting the Cowpalace thus stealing it.

  • hey cow palace.. his name was Scott Halpin or something to that effect. The Who tired him out bad.. he couldnt play no more..lol

    no shock to me

    r.d

  • Sounds like this song

    *puts on sunglasses*

    is pretty epic

    WHAAAAAAAA!

  • The drummer that filled in for Keith at the Cow Palace in 1973 was Scott Halpin.

  • The most classic of classic rock: Stairway to Heaven, Crossroads, and Won't Get Fooled Again. At the Old Vic, everything is remarkably FRESH and Moon still has the gift. Daltrey, too.

  • Very nice! Tasty guitar from Pete. Well done CP95!

  • why is the guitar so weak

  • Agreed! for me, the best Who song of unbelievable quality while the band at it best

  • this is a great sort of laid back version of this tune..i love the tempo, doesn't sound rushed like other more current versions i've heard..

  • Is Townshend using an SG in this? Awesome version, thanks for posting!

  • @longliveWHO515 seems like he is using his famous "SG Special" but he was soon to switch to the Les Paul Deluxe w/ an extra pick-up installed inbetween the stock two mini-humbuckers..

  • @MOSKII58 ... a di marzio super distortion

  • Interesting to hear The Who playing this song when it was new. They probably didn't think people would still be listening to it 40 years later!

  • An epic from a flawless album. I believe this album is Top 3 All-Time. The other two, LeD ZePpeLin I, followed by Paranoid(War Pigs) the real album title!!!

  • awesome audio. This band will sadly be missed when there live performances come to a end.

  • hell yeah, you can hear the snare vibrating at the beginning!!!

  • A great performance, yet you can hear someone shout for "Substitute" at the end. Unfortunately, a strong percentage of concert goers are more into familiarity than mere excellence.

  • Fuck, what a tone.

  • the best they are....the best they were, the best there ever will be =)

  • Happy 65th birthday Pete, you mad windmillng son of a bitch ! Nobody can match your charisma and style !

  • scott halpin was the drummer whom replaced keith at the cow palace

  • @eric15746 Thanks !

  • Definitely the best live version I've ever heard, Thanks

  • THIS is great ! Thumbs up to cowpalace95 ! AS a fanatical "WHO" fan, I commend you for yor dedication to finding this MOST important material. AND what I like most is that everyone who has posted on this sight knows their history about the band. I can't begin to tell people how many times ( and many will probably agree ) I've been on a "WHO" sight and just shook my head at some of the post that had no clue what they were posting about ! Thanks everyone for knowing the interical history info !

  • @jrushmen never heard such a great quality of a live version of won't get fooled again! Long live rock to all of you Who fans guys!

  • @baracca58Thank you ! It is of an unbelievable quality , Isn't it ? I like it alot better than "The Kids are Alright" version

  • @jrushmen

    Those "sights" are actually "sites."

  • Comment removed

  • @jrushmen

Actually, you didn't. It's "Kenney." There, you learned two things today. Kenney's no Keith, but he's still good in my site. Gary Glitter...good lord, where'd that come from? It bothered me when Pete stood accused of that; I'm glad he was cleared, too bad about G. Glitter though. That must've been on your mind. I just gave a helpful hint, but the next time you insist on making an ass out of yourself, it might not be with someone as understanding as I am. Take it easy.

  • This was recorded was before Who's Next was. wow

  • they're playing to a backing track (and always have actually, same w. BOR; believe there might be a click track for the drums as well- they always seem to be wearing headphones for this song); there are 3 drum beats that cue the band to the song start (can hear it clearly on the TKAA version); Townshend cues Pridden to start the tape (now I'm sure CD or whatever..)

  • i think rabbit plays it on the keys nowadays

  • @seabornlee Remember when the backing track recorder used to break the tape. Espescially the synthesizer backings for "Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again. Pete used to go apeshit and start the instrument smashing session?

  • The Young Vic is a theater in London the Who rented to rehearse for their 1971 tour. They opened the doors free of charge to the public while they worked . They were also trying to make an interactive thing with the audience that was the aborted Lifehouse concept.

  • god this is tooo good for live- dead like the studio version-

  • I'm sure this is live.

Just listen to Keith Moon missing his drum beats towards the end.

    R. Daltrey just ruled that night.

He basically hit note after note to perfection.

  • moon didn't miss beats, he played to his own beat dear boy, its called originality and was perfect for the oo

  • This is live dude. I've just realized how good they were...You can find that show on the deluxe releaseof Who's Next (the second album Is the entire (?) recording of the show, awesome sound)

  • You can tell they were still getting into playing this then-new song. The fur doesn't fly like it does on TKAA. Nice one from the time capsule, thanks for posting.

  • they brought back the cut-tempo section 3:40-4:20 with kenny jones on the '79-'80 tours. funny to hear keith put the brakes on here! very cool document indeed! thanks.

  • that part is TASTY!!!

  • Ha-ha, you're right!

  • As a die hard Who fan---I would have to say this is probably the best live version. At least the best one Ive heard so far. Maybe coz it was so close to the original date of production, and the spirit of the times. Zeit geist. Cheers mates

  • every song off this young vic series is great-

    peace out bro

  • Haha wow Rogers scream sounded so "80's"

  • Years ago I had a bootleg of the youngs vic stuff and the audio was terrible, its amazing to hear it with the high sound quality, a dream come true. I hear they are releasing it on official cd with extras and the like.

  • why does roadrunner not work in singapore?

  • No idea i never noticed

  • Pretty cool, never heard before, nice pics! xP

  • Thanks this is the first time they played it live

  • @cowpalace95 Thank you for the incredible material ! And great name cowpalace95 because let's not forget where Keith Moon passed out behind the drums while performing due to taking too many horse tranquilizers , washing them down with some brandy. I am embarrassed to say that I forget the name of the19 year old from the audience who helped finieh the remaining 3 songs of the concert.

  • @hurryfae - You're thinking of Scot Halpin, who died in 2008 without ever getting that jacket that Roger promised him.

  • @QuarrellaDeVil How did he die?

  • @hurryfae Scot died of a inoperative brain tumor on Feb 9th 2008. And he did receive his WHO jacket in 1973 after his replacement of Keith Moon at the Cowpalace in San Francisco. Roger posted a tribute to Scot on the WHO website on Jan 27th 2009

  • @hurryfae scott halpin
