People need to calm down about monthly fees. For instance, WoW couldn't run without monthly fees because it's too massive and has such an incredibly large amount of content. Maintaining it would be utterly impossible without monthly fees. Games like Runescape on the other hand, have much less requirements to run and are exponentially smaller with much less content (and yes I have experience to back this up) so they can be maintained off of nothing but adds on the side of the screen.
