@SuperHappyVegan Nothing wrong with crating your puppy while you are at work. Unless your working 10 hours. I crate my dog for about 5-6. Alot of times my wife comes home and its even less time.. Dogs enjoy a safe place..
hey, love the vid, just have a question, you said we should introduce the puppy a couple days after they have moved in with you, but before the crate where is the most comfortable place a puppy can sleep? should we put it in the crate in our bedroom and afterwards in the living room or in a bed in our room? thx :)
@buttpoop7 she said to put bedding in but if they pee to remove it forever permanetly never again put it in there. she was talking about a pet bed. not like bedding for rats or reptiles.
@SuperHappyVegan crate training is one of the best ways to house train a dog. and keeping it in a crate while you are at work will keep it safe. sometimes it doesnt matter how weell you train them they will still get into things they shouldnt, like your fridge.
I had a bulldog that was not even crate trained but love going in and out/ staying in his crate. Now i have another dog that hates his crate and whines and tore any blanket i put in his crate , and he doesnt even pay attention to treats or toys i give him inside when his inside his crate:( im getting frustrated coz i have to bring him everywhere i go.
My 12 week old pup takes a while to clam down while in the Kennel but once he stops I will wait a few mins before heading into the room to let me out. As soon as he sees me he will start barking and crying. I know not to let him out while he is behaving like this. Should I leave the room again for him to calm down before trying to let him out again?
So, if your puppy cries and you shouldn't let him/her out b/c it may make them think that, that is how they get what they want. Should you walk away until they stop? Or what should you do?
wow , exactly the opposite tips from the last video i watched ( by communicanine ) , how do you decide who is right ? i dont want to start off on the wrong path ...
@isofaster I advise you follow these tips, as you can find a lot of other books/videos that are exactly like this. Both videos have their merits, but I feel this one is better. HOwever, if you have unknowingy bought your puppy from a puppy mill, where they were locked in their cages for long periods of time, the crate may not be too good for housetraining as they will soil it.
Thx soo much!! I mean at first we tried to MAKE him stay in his kennel which looks exactly like this one in the vid. allllll night, and he would cry and bark. we were about to give up and then we saw this video and now he sleeps with the door open, but we are still trying to keep him calm while the doors closed, no luck yet but we r hopeful!!!!!! THANKS SO MUCH
@pizzaforlunch You can try putting treats/chew toys inside and letting them wander in on their own. ALso, you can employ the clicker training method (i.e clicking and treating for being in the same room as the crate, being closer to the crate, eventually being in the crate, staying in the crate...)
our puppies are crate trained! well for the most part and use it as their bed at night and their only 10(english mastiff) and 9(dorkie) weeks! so proud of our kids! jus have to get up like 1 time in the night and then when we get up at 7 or 8 but i love their getting the idea of it and know when we say "go to bed"...
@candicay Maybe it's best not to have a dog, if you have already bought one, consider asking a relative or neighbour for help. If that's not possible, try leaving the puppy in a puppy-proof room. The room should be safe without dangerous objects, chew toys should be provided and the floor should be covered in paper. Train the puppy when you get home, or take a few days off
I got my puppy when she was around 3-4 weeks old because the mother didnt want to feed her anymore. i used to use powder milk to feed it. i dont remember if it was goat milk or regular milk...
@TheMonos1989 you shouldn't been taking a puppy until its 8 weeks old (2 months) i got mine while he was NEWBORN BECAUSE We own the mother of the newborn,Sadly frankies mother passed away, but still why did you took the puppy? you should been doing Homework about the dog's breed,i'm waiting for a siberian husky to be born this comming september! cause the mother of the future puppy is ours, all my dogs were 2-4 months when we got them, that breeder was abuse to that pup
Thank you so much for this video. I just got a 2 month old lab and I had no idea how to do this, he's really good at going potty outside though, I just have to pay attention and he'll start crying or sniffing around.
I read I should leave him inside his crate next to my bed overnight, but should I do it even if he cries?
@PMTMATT In the video Kathy Santo mentions that if your puppy cries then they may not be ready for that much time and to reduce the time then slowly work back up again. Hope that helps! :)
@HowdiniGuru I have to ask the same question as PMTMATT. I think my puppy has separation anxiety and at night he cries and will not stop until he gets attention. It's hard not to award this behavior because it's disturbing sleep. However I can't just trust him to roam the apartment on his own as he might chew things. What can be done about this over night?
@Radjehuty Did you try to reduce the time your puppy is in the crate and gradually extend it? Kathy mentioned in the video that if a puppy cries that we may need to reduce the time then slowly work back up again.
Hey what do i do if i goto school and my parents work, no one to look after the dog, are we able to leave him in the cage until we come back.

Don't own a dog if you have to lock it in a box all day.

How do I successfully crate train my puppy if I have to work? Hiring a dog walker is not an option for me right now.

I don't like crate training. Too many people leave their dogs in the crate for TOO LONG.
