  • Tie the caskets down....I love it....I love this man. A country poet, with soul and sprinkles of blues and beautiful insight and honesty and a stunning natural voice. I call him uncle Billy.

  • brilliant song and the soulfulness of his voice amazing, can't stop listening

  • Yes. A thousand times, yes.

  • Thank You for this wonderful tribute. I dig mine too...She just turned 97.

  • @805jeffm you are blessed. mines would have been 93 in a few days. this song makes me smile when i think about her. no tears :)

  • So true, about black church!

  • The guy sitting next to BB King on the plane is a friend whom I have known since we were both 14 years old! His name is Rodney Vorhis. Those pics were taken when they traveled to Zaire in Africa for the big music fest for the Rumble in the Jungle: the big historical fight between Ali and Foreman. My friend Rodney was the bass player for the Spinners who were also on that show. Rodney and I both turned 60 this year.

  • @Joonyer1951 @Joonyer1951 haha this is magnificant information! I love it how old school cats find themselves in YouTube videos us youngsters put up! Benorce Blackmon, the guitarist on "Kissing my love" also contacted me a while ago. I think it's amazing.

You can see more Rumble in the jungle footage in a documentary Soul Power. Thank you for commenting on my video, God bless you and Rodney with good health and another wonderful 60 years!

  • my Grandmother was born in 1896,, she passed away in the early 80's.like bill, I took care of mine too...she would never get mad.. she would say, i am so disapointed in that Sunny. I miss her so much=I know i have fewer days ahead of me than i have lived. I gotta be good so I can see her again.

  • i was raised in church by my grandma and i remember getting candy out of her purse...this song comes from his soul and looks into mine....oh and my name is william...aka billy.

  • My Gran just died about an hour ago and i miss her so much already <3

  • I lost my grandmother over 47 years ago and I still remember those rolls she use to bake down south in a coal stove. Slap that butter on them (no thought of cholesterol back then), right out the oven! UMMMM GOOD! Every Christmas she'd send us a fruitcake. That cake was so moist loaded with fruit. Nothing matches what Grandmom made with her hands! What memories! Miss you Grandmom.

  • love this song. there would be NO momma if there were no Grandma. awesome ! my grandma was the best cook in her town. people from out of town would stop by her house to visit before going to their own mom's or grandma's house. i still can remember some of her sayings/proverbs. my grandma spoke a lot in Creole so the kids wouldn't know what was going on and repeat it to the neighbors. God bless all the grandmas, especially the God-fearing/loving ones !

  • 0 people didnt like there gran

  • As you mature in this world ,you can better undestand how the little things will make or break you, all good grandma's make a difference. GP99

  • This is an amazing MAN!!!!!!

  • There is a great movie out called Still Bill a must watch. @ IvyEmancipated Is the name of the song he sings in the intro "If You Want to Help Me Jesus" I have looked for it before. Is it a real song or is he just feeling the spirit.

  • @ignatiusreily I'm not sure about the song, and the title as well. I just subtitled it by ear. If someone has more information, I'd appreciate it :)

  • :) Heee:)))) HEEEEhee:))) True artist!

  • :) Heee:)))) HEEEEhee:))) True artist!

  • Never met any of my Grand mothers......but this song makes me feel like i did.:0)

  • this is effortless soul. if this doesn't give you chills then you should plug your ears up. thank you so much for posting this version. the strings make a difference but it's mr. withers compassion that puts this song so high up

  • .....wasn't the song just a continuation of the story he was telling.

  • Thank GOD for all the grandmothers Bill Withers speaks so eloquently of!

  • we can only hope we get more "Bill Withers" in our lives. he has a great sens of humor....oh he sings a few songs too in between his jokes!

  • CARL CARLTON IS BILL WITHERS' GRANDMA

  • this is beautiful.

  • i love this song..this man is so dam cool xD

  • 2:15, one of the coolest 'yeah's ever.

  • He's a true artist. It doesn't matter how many times I watch vids of him performing that song live, it's always somewhat different. You just don't get that feeling of relentless deja vu you usually get when you're checking out different versions of one and the same song. BTW, thanks for the vid.

  • 4 my Ms. She--he ain't lying---our grandmas and dey grandmas--this my Grandma

  • "if you want to help me, Jesus, it's alright!"

    Ooh.

A good song for me today. I do not know if I am happy or sad. I am dropping tears as I think of issues I could use Jesus' help with. So I am a sad, a little. Think I will sing it 'til I get happy.

    : )

I like this song. Sure. It has been described as delicate. I never heard that description for a song before, but it is fitting. The verses are meaningful and real. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for posting this and including a quote of the great Bill Withers' introductory comments!

I think this song fits so well with the Sweet Honey In The Rock song "No Mirrors In My Nana's House". Both of these songs are aptly considered cultural gems.

An animated video of that song and this great video can be found on jambalayah.

  • Best version of this song. Love it... Cheers....

  • Thank you Soo Much for this, Ivy!

  • Thanks for watching it! Sometimes I feel so lonely in my Bill-Withers appreciating world :)

  • @IvyEmancipated Naw naw, don't you feel like that. We're just a little quieter bunch, thas all. (: I been lovin' this song since 1st released, & him since his first record. As much as I loved his voice, I think his huge strength was as a lyricist. The man just wrote the most beautiful words of unique, soulful, insight, & wrote the only music that would have been right, to tell each story. His words & music were never like anybody else's. TRUE ARTIST. Warm. Unpretentious. Just Plain Bill. Real.

  • @preachersdtr1 WORD!

  • there's not a day where I don't sing this song and think about the most important person in my life!..........I miss you grandma..

  • @voiceindawild True. It's such a powerful song!

  • Amen. ; ) xoxo -c

  • Always makes me think of my Great Gran'ma ; ) Thank you VOLUMES Ivy ! xoxo -c-c-
