  • @amemjj talk about an over exaggeration... holy fuck.

  • Barbra is still the BEST !!!!!!! ♪ She always will be. ♫

  • ok guys: lea michelle is one of the brightest young stars out there right now with one of the best voices. i happen to have a huge crush on her :). but in all honesty, this is a song that can be sang by one person only and that is the amazing barbara streisand. i've only liked her for about 5 months but ik how much she's done over here career. lea will never be barbra

  • Barbra Streisand rockkkkkkkkkkk fist for nanny fran !!! i love this movie buy in the 90 , and noone like sheeeeeeee , thanks glee for let the teen like me see this again in the tribute iss greatttttt

  • I see Why Fran likes her so much XD

  • Barbra Streisand is one of America's greatest contribution to World class music!!!

    Her musical genius is INCOMPARABLE!!!!

Go Babs!!!!I would really love to see you perform here in Japan!!!!

  • Mecha STREISAND!!!!!!!

  • @panthers909 Her tickets are too expensive. You have to super wealthy to attend her concerts.

  • seriously with the dawg babs?

  • @MrGrevy mhhmmm let's see you sing it....

  • @MrGrevy lmao! I'm guessing you are either tone deaf or a 5 year old that listens to Kesha.

  • @fhmonsterx Neither. Just not gay.

  • @MrGrevy you don't have to be gay to recognize she is a great singer.

  • @fhmonsterx Well that's a good point too

  • Used to love Babs, but since she made it her business to become a mouthpiece for the far-left, liberal loons (which she's the leader of the pack), I can hardly stomach her anymore. This is exactly the reason entertainers should do what they signed on to do, ENTERTAIN, and leave politics to the politicians. When you don't, you run the risk of isolating a huge sector of ppl who might otherwise love you. Case in point: ME!

  • @Readb4uvote I disagree with Bab's politics too, but that doesn't mean I can't love her work as an entertainer. She has a one-of-a-kind voice, up there with Judy & Liza.

  • Still the greatest. The rest should just stay home.

  • how old is she?

  • Why is everyone bringing up that Glee girl?! Good grief, that girl is not worthy to be mentioned in the same breath as Barbra! Barbra's original performance of this in Funny Girl is GOLD. That Glee girl with her zero-dynamics voice, can never give a performance that can stand equal to Barbra's original. Barbra's voice has definitely aged but she STILL knows how to work that voice to give an effective performance. Lea M at her peak was HORRIBLE at the Tony's when she performed this song.

  • @eyestrained07 Look, Lea michele is an amazing singer. And it IS debatable, but many have the opinion that she has better natural vocals than Barbara. Barbara speaks lots of her words, she forces her crescendos and and is actually flat at times. Lea's voice is also naturally bigger than hers. Sure the Tony performance wasn't the best, but anyone could tell it was a mixture of bad preperation and the band was also out of time. and what the HELL do you mean by zero dynamic??

  • @sylviajiangmusic Bigger voice does not mean better singer. Lea's voice sounds heavier than Babs but her voice has poor resonance and projection (her technique is not that great). And what I mean by Lea's zero dynamic is she has no nuances when she sings. She doesn't vary her singing ala Streisand who can easily go from soft to loud in the same breath. Lea doesn't have much control in her voice. And her breathing is quite bad. And her DROMP is awful anywhere, not just the Tony's.

  • @eyestrained07 Well i beg to differ. Firstly, with your dynamic thing- who can't do that? anyone can crescendo and diminuendo. Also, Lea's voice is actually lighter than Streisand's and a much easier to listen to- Streisand's is throaty and in terms of rezonance, is actually less rezonant than Lea's. Lea has a lot of control of voice she actually has a controlled vibrato wheareas Streisand's voice is incredibly straight. And one song does not determine anything... And no her voice is not awful..

  • @sylviajiangmusic it's actually Lea who sings in straight tones most of the time. Streisand is known for her trills even in her deep low tones (which Lea doesn't have btw, her low register is whack). There's nothing wrong with singing straight, but Lea needs to put more contrast within her singing. And Lea is definitely a throatier singer than Babs with alot of forcing in her voice. Come back after 30 years when Lea has proven her worth as a singer like Babs, THEN they can be compared.

  • @sylviajiangmusic I also have to add that Lea is HORRIBLE in phrasing her lines. She tries to do some variations in DROMP but her variations come off as epic failure in trying to do Streisand. Her bad breath control contributes to her bad phrasing. For someone who's already in her mid-20's, this is something she should be in control of. LEa's so overrated it's hilarious.

  • @eyestrained07 I can't describe how much I love this testimonial. GO BABS!!!

  • well, it seems that she really adores this dog!!! :)

  • I am watching Funny Girl and she did this number and ever single hair on my body stood up, and I had to hear her sing it live because I didn't think those notes were possible...I must have forgot it was Barbara because this is better than the movie!!

  • GENIUS !!!

  • GENIUS !!! I 'M IN LOVE - ei kreis

  • I love Miss Streisand, but her voice sounds very low in this. Is it just due to her age, or were there other factors?

  • she's amazing. i wish i could have seen this

  • Everyone who likes the GLEE version better, go and watch Barbra perform this in the movie Funny Girl. If you still think GLEE is better, get to the nearest shrink, ASAP.

  • @amazinggarrett1 Why? it's our opinion what we think. I like the glee version of don't rain on my parade better. It is amazing, lea sings it higher, hits all the notes, and doesn't go flat on her scalic motifs!

  • @sylviajiangmusic But the GLEE version was perfected in the studio with all the modern voice editing technologies. Barbra's wasn't. As you said, she messed up some pitch-wise, something that would have been fixed in studios today. Plus, Barbra had to perform that number live on stage eight nights a week when the musical was on Broadway.

  • man can you imagine being in that audience?

  • i like th glee version better XD but she is very good too :D

  • @FoggyRoad81 well you have your opinion and i have mine ok!?

  • wow(:

  • how can you compare lea and barbara, barbara is a legend and lea is amazing, they both do it well in their own way,

  • Lea(rachel berry (glee)) by far i would prefer her version and voice i no this is the original but glee made it better sorry but i do believe its the truth

  • @MsFishook

OK you're just ignorant. Barbra is in her 60s doing this rendition (and its still fabulous). Compare a young Barbra to the version of Glee and educate yourselves. God all these whipper snappers who have no clue what music is, drives me crazy!

  • Lea is better in my opinion

  • @OrlaithMx

    Ignorant!

  • my dear fiend Tim Clark was in new york and london twice to see Barbra . . .. he loved it !!!!

  • you are the best singer in the world!!!!!!!

  • check glee version...

  • Wow. I LOVE BARBRA! Unbelievable even after all these years!!!

  • Let's shutup about Lea Michele, she' great, glee's great. but i'm sick of seeing a vid of a song they covered and seeing comments about glee!!!!!

  • lea is like 23 years old people who play high school students arent really in high school unless there under contract by disney lol

  • I always wondered, lol. She looks so young!

  • @markfliance802: Yes, her version is better, but Michelle's purpose is to do covers of popular pop/Broadway songs, not to come up with her own stuff. The idea behind the TV show Glee is to do covers, and if it weren't for Michelle, people wouldn't have rediscovered songs such as this. They're both amazing, in their own ways.

  • Um yeah young people rediscovered it but this song was NOT great during its day. It would not have been discovered at all if it wasn't for Streisand. And even if Michelle was doing a cover, it is no where near close to Streisand who was the original. Both may be amazing but Michelle is not in the same category as streisand. Put her w/ people in Wicked, there she is comparable.

  • @JoelPopcountertenor If not for Streisand this song would not been discovered... Give me a break. You must be a sympathetic towards Ms. Streisand. Its funny...

  • @brg5 um since you decided not to play nice then i would say you're an idiot. When funny girl was being written, Jule Styne wrote this in Streisand in mind since she had a quirky fast lyric interpretation to some songs. If i was so into Streisand, then why did i say this had "no melody". It is not the best of songs, never was. No mainstream artist even touched it (except one male artist who slow it down). Eder did it early 2000 which is a good 30-35 years from when it debut. IDIOT

  • @JoelPopcountertenor No fool the only idiot is you. Streisand is a joke! None of her music matches with any of the greats and the only reason why this thing is in the forefront is because of who supported her - have you check out her audience's demographics, but of course not. What make a true artist great is their ability to transcend cultural boundaries. And who say anything about you being into Streisand? You must be a coward to call me a idiot - you would have never done that face to face...

  • @brg5 the greats like Houston and other power singers got the formula from streisand. Aretha always wailed but the Houstons, Dions, Careys, Eder (list goes on) all got the "power ballads" from "oh my man i love him so" "Woman in the Moon" "I'm the greatest star" I don't like most of her music but we were talking about who made above song popular first. So stick to the subject, she won a tony, oscar, grammy from funny girl w/ that song IN IT.

  • @JoelPopcountertenor okay i agree with you...

  • @brg5 what were we arguing about again lol. Anyway a true artist does go thru the cultural boundries. And well, streisand was the standard of broadway and divas of pop. If not for her, houston who is now a standard would not have a market. Either way, let's shake on it :).

  • @JoelPopcountertenor

Absolutely correct, which is why Whitney, Celine, Carey et al idolize Streisand, she created that whole genre of music whether you like it or not.

  • @brg5 BTW my comment about it being known due to streisand was in response to a previous comment about "if not for Lea nobody would know this song" Um Lea sang it in Glee in this decade. Streisand sang it on broadway and won the big screen and won an oscar in the 1960s. So who made it known? Lea or Streisand? W/ streisand having a legacy of 50 years in music and Lea 2 years, common sense would tell you the original singer (Streisand) made it known. Bye

  • BTW I like Michelle for her charm. But for this song, you should watch Funny girl and hear that the expressions of streisand is perfection. Michelle's whine in between notes to show drama was over used and didn't even worked in its conviction. Listen to the lyrics, you need to be a singer gaining momentum as you proclaim your resolution. Michelle did not have that, nor did she have power. Seriously listen to the version on funny girl..the original version makes GLEE's version sound campy

  • I am very sorry, but Lea Michelle's performance is merely a parody of Barbra's version. If Lea Michelle, indeed, is great, she could have been known for her own songs. Do you think Lea Michelle would become popular if this song was never heard in 1970s? Barbra has been in showbiz for more than four decades. I never heard about any projects or albums of your lea Michelle, while Barbra, since 2005, had launched several albums.

  • :O that was absolutely unbelieveably amazing :D

  • she is amazing, but i have to say, lea michele was absolutely stunning, not that im comparing them to each other, barbra has many years on lea, they are both superb!

  • If I knew who the hell this Lea Micehele was I would ask: where will Lea be when she is 64? Certainly not selling out a tour for 300-1500 dollar tix.

  • You said it!! The soul is in her voice...it's amazing how comments focus on superficialities.....she is a woman/human being who surpass many others and who we can relate to...

  • Im sorry, I can tell she is supperb at it but come on, have you heard Lea Michele sing it? :O

    Ashley :) :)

  • Are you really talking about a young girl from Glee?

  • Sorry hunny but Barbra's time is WAY over, she does not hold a flame to Lea Michele. And when did Barbra get so FAT?

  • @GeneticChowder69 Ick. Lea Michele sounded like a high school girl. Nothing unique about her performance. Streisand sizzles even older.

  • @billyboylb she IS a high school girl, or at least plays on. DUMBASS

  • I don't think my comment warranted being called a dumbass. You're free to disagree, but you don't have to get nasty.

  • God!I almost cried when she sang!Really amazing! *--*

  • One of the HARDEST songs to pull off, and she did it exceptionally perfect.

  • @YouBritishTuber well it is her song after all :)

  • @YouBritishTuber duh... cause she originally sang it..

  • @paige3406 she didn't write it. someone must of sung it to her so she knows how it goes. so technically she didnt sing it orignally. but to end on a high note. she is in with the greatest!

  • @YouBritishTuber well she kinda created the role....so i guess she had a lot of practice :P

  • 1:53

  • I saw the show twice, she was stunning!!!

  • how did this show finnish>?

  • this song, i checked out the dvd from the library today and it was a good concert, u should get the dvd.

  • i would give anything to see this women live on stage

  • She has such a natural, pure talent.

  • Holy CRAP! That riff!

  • just amazing. her voice can knock you away even after all these years.

  • I love her :]

And she's still gorgeous, regardless of age. :]

I have goosebumps that was so good :]

  • She was 66 or 67 when she performed this. That's quite a feat!

  • she was 64... she's 67 right now and won't turn 68 until April. :)

  • Yeah I goosebumps

  • That woman is a powerhouse!! Here she is 42 years after the original recording and she still manages to give me chills.

I've heard Lea Michele's version and it is indeed stunning. But I'm not sure it is fair to compare it to this version (as Barbra's original recording is much more powerful). But I will say this, in 40 years if Lea can still sing like this, then maybe she'll be in the same rank as Babs.

  • mooglez ... check out the original recording from Funny Girl. You'll find that the Glee cast version is an exact, beat for beat, homage to that seminal version. Lea Michele does a fantastic version ... but unfortunately ... it still doesn't match the mastery of Streisand's original.

  • K2Cal, nothing can match Streisand.

  • @mooglez Yes, check out the Funny Girl OST Version... It has the exact same arrangements as the Lea Michele version!

  • Saw this show live. She was amazing in LA that night!

  • I just love this! Thank you. I Love Barbra! After a 1/2 year of grieving for my beloved husband, music will be my saving grace. It's back to performing & recording, & I'll bring my sweet albino Pekingese,"Capi" with me, also. I will celebrate my love for my husband with song, hold him in my heart & hopefully touch others with love.

Every day I am blessed with inspiration @ my grand, already giving vocal & piano concerts. My gift is my song. - penny

  • (This is @ the end) - "Samantha",named in honor of Barbra's sweet "Sammy" - whom she dedicated her "Smile" to. He passed the day before she recorded the song on her first 'Broadway album'.
