Compressed CO2 can produce plenty of power to cause serious physical harm with any projectile, including paintballs; and when you've got a gun that needs to be both accurate and have a good range, yeah it's gonna be powerful. Without enough power, you lose accuracy, especially at longer ranges.

Higher end guns are simply smoother, shoot faster, and have better efficiency.
