just a genius tribute to Frank... so many little subtle things in it... goes in my Zappa playlist for sure, Frank woulda been way proud (especially since Dweezil took part)
I love when Weird Al does really long songs like Genius, Trapped, and Albuquerque, and just goes crazy with it. They're songs you can get absorbed in and have a fun stupid time with for 10 minutes.
I am not familiar with Frank Zappa, so I didn't really dig this song when I first heard it. I knew there had to be something more to it! I'm still on the fence about Poodle Hat as a whole; I feel like it's Al's weakest album so far, but it's still got some goodies.
i don't know what song this particularly parodies from Frank. it sounds a lot like "be in my video", it starts off as "I am the slime", it has the rhythms of "you are what you is", and some licks (xylophones and unusual sounds) from Sheik Yerbouti and Apostrophe. Where did this come from?
@Fry1077 - allabastormaroe is asking what influenced those parts because they purposely sound similar to specific Zappa songs. Similar to how 'Dare to be Stupid' has elements of specific Devo songs that influenced the parody style to work as well as it does.
This is the best song! I am 30 and started on Al when I was 8...we go way back! I listen to him most of the time now...he always gets me in a good mood!
I personally love this song. I don't care what anyone says. The lyrical genius in this song, like all of Al's songs, is hysterically creative. I get something new out of it every time I hear it.
@thefelts2 Dude, what the fuck? I'm French and I laughed my ass off at that song. We French (and well, people from all around the world actually) call American people stupid so often, we're not gonna get offended by that hahah!
@grimcow4000 Is it Zappa's musical style that this song emulates? (Forgive me--I'm just starting to become familiar with Zappa's music and think he's a refreshing break from all the cookie-cutter junk out there).
@restlessr84 Yup. The song structure, tempo, time/key changes, are all Zappa influenced. Zappa was a huge influence on on Weird Al. I seem to remember something in the liner notes about it. And Dweezil play's the solos on the song.
@DerekJHunt Thank you very much for the clarification! :) When I first heard this song and hear about Zappa (whom I knew little about back in 2003), I honestly thought Zappa had spent a few years living in France!
@restlessr84 Not to butt in, but you may want to check out the albums Apostrophe and Overnite Sensation and the film 200 Motels for some of Frank Zappa's best work.

@allabastormaroe This is a style parody written by Weird Al, it isn't really a parody of a FZ song, just a tribute to his style.

@NinjaShadow8 this was one of the top 5 on the album if you ask me. of course it may not be like Ebay or Couch Potato, but its still good.

I'm gettin' even more famous by the hour. I'm stuffed with pastries and drunk with power now they're puttin' up my statue by the Eiffel Tower.
