beautifull birds ... we get them wild where I live, as well as black cockatoos, sulpher crested cockatoos ( also I have a pet sulpher crested ) and rose breasted cockatoos ( commonly known as galahs in australia ) and rainbow lorikeets as well as many other types of australian parrots and birds and I only live an hour from melbourne city ..... wonderfull :) :) :)
I hope they can find somewhere to nest. It is as if when people see a dead tree they assume it should be cut down because it could be a danger or because it would make good firewood, but it takes at least 80 years for trees to develop decent nesting hollows.
Aside from visiting Australia to see them this is the only way I'd ever get to see them. As far as smuggling is concerned I agree. Leave native birds alone in the wild where they belong.
Bird smuggling gets you 3 to 5 years in jail in Australia, though if you were to make the punishment fit the crime, smugglers would be drugged, stitched headfirst into a sleeping bag and locked in the trunk of a car for 3 days.
Any surviving smugglers would have their feet cut off and be confined to a shit smeared cage for the rest of their lives.
@andyboy1961 But yet in Australia farmers and others slaughter them by the thousands because they are like pidgins to them. And a majority of the smuggled in birds are given great homes and are cared for for the rest of their lives by their owners. You have Australians who literally kill cockatoos by the hundreds, and you have ppl from other countries who would pay thousands just to see them live.
@Benjaminb46 believe me, i know ALOT, about birds, and quite alot about how they are traded, around 80% of smuggled birds live crappy lives in cages without toys, clean new food water etc, i saw on some websites and documentary that alot of smuggled birds are killed for their plumaged feather. youre saying aussies like me kill cockatoos by hundreds, how the hell would you know? i bet youve never even seen us on the map! america is the worst smuggling country. but all countries do! were all scum!
@gottaluvbirds i know a lot about birds too, my dad and i have owned plenty in over the years. "aussies like me, how the hell would you know?" you tell me. where did i accuse YOU of killing birds? where?
@Benjaminb46 im not a dick i bet you bearly even know where abouts australia is, it doesnt happen here, i know, i live here. people do kill wildlife, but they are sick and it is against the law. some teen who killed my cousins father when he was speeding also purposly ran over a flock of cocktoos, 20 or more i believe. and that happens alot. but 0.5 aussies are that craptastic. it's illegal to posess firearms in aus. unless youre a cop, hunter, etc. but if you kill a cockatoo you can spent 3 mo-
@gottaluvbirds I dont even know where Australia is on a map? South of indonesia, right next door to new zealand, east of singapore clear enough for you you pompous prick?
@gottaluvbirds shut my mouth? look we just have different opinions on the situation. neither of us are wrong. we both love birds bottom line. iv had cockatoos before and iv done volunteer work at parrot shelters, and let me tell you, in the US, true parrot people are nutty about their birds, and i have never met any that have actually bought wild caught birds before. iv met plenty of wild caught birds at the shelter, but 90% of people buy captive bred, domesticated birds.
@Benjaminb46 same here. i dont know what you just said has to do with what you said that australians kill cockatoos by the hundreds. that's all im telling you that you were wrong about. i have two tiels :P theyre still technically cockatoos, cuz theyre in the cacatuidae order. this arguement is getting on my nerves now so lets just agree we both love birds and thats all that matters. agree?
@Benjaminb46 nths in prison. get your facts right before you blabber on about how much you dont know about countries apart from america, or as you probably call it, " USA USA USA!!! WOOOOOO *chugs a beer*". i dont hate americans, i just hate people who dont know squat about what theyre saying and act like their the best place in the world. so youre wrong ben it doesnt happen here.

so your act of love and caring for a living creature is to imprison it in a cage?
Classy.
Smugglers should be imprisoned like the birds they market
P.S. gang gangs are woodland/ forest birds rarely if ever found close to farms,
stop trying to justify a terrible, selfish act.
