But, she did in my mind stood true to her pro-life beliefs by being supportive of her daughters pregnancy. I'm not a big fan of her by any means, and think she is highly unqualified for president(as was Obama in my opinion), but the media goes to extreme lengths to make this women look bad.

    Absolutely correct, the pregnancy is mostly a source of humor, not necessarily the best criticism.

    A better criticism would be that she said that the Soviets won the "race to space", and that it caused the Soviet Union to collapse due to overspending?

    Simple maths will tell you that Soviet spending on the space program was insignificant compared to their defense spending.

  • @therohanicelf Actually it was both that led to their collapse both were examples of the soviets overspending. Go read Robert Gates book in which he wrote about his days as an Soviet analyst for the CIA. Which in there he points out that we(the CIA) from the late 1950s knew there was a " Soviet economic crisis". The soviets and the US didn't really start beefing up there nucs until the 60s. So in a way she was correct( whether she actually knew it or not).

    1. The "space race" has always been used in the context of a manned trip to the moon.

    2. The Soviet Military spending was a factor of 100x greater than their Space program, at every point in their history.

    3. The Soviet cosmonaut program lost funding after they lost the race to the moon, and the Soviet collapse, due to government spending, came 20 years after the near-elimination of their space program.

    Palin is the only Rep. candidate that would cause me to sit out in the upcoming race.

If a tea party candidate runs for president in 2012 they will get no more than 18% of the vote and most likely take away any chance of a Republican winning.   • @kababayanC2 raising taxes on the upper-class is not descriminating against the rich. it's making the realization that our government needs to be able to pay for the services we need, and middle-class people can hardly make it as it is, while there are people out there who make more in bonuses what most people will make in hundreds of lifetimes. the truth is that we do need to spread the wealth around a little more. the middle-class isn't by any stretch of the imagination getting their fair....

  • @kababayanC2 well, first of all, every news channel airs some bad reporting; but that doesn't mean that every pundit on them is a poor journalist. i said earlier. i think (generally speaking) msnbc's daytime news people aren't very good. they are not liars, and they seldom make mistakes, but they are just not great journalists. their evening lineup, on the other hand, is much MUCH better.

    cnn is a very non-partisan network, almost to a fault. (they've been criticized by both sides for this; they are so insistent on being balanced, some say they don't actually cover the news, just both opinions on the news. or bloomberg. or bbc news. all very moderate news channels.

  • @buddahbully a flat tax! first of all if we had a flat tax, unless you're in the wealthiest 1%,YOU would pay more in taxes. now let's take a relatively successful person -- my dad. he owns and runs three small businesses and makes $50,000 a year. let's compare him to a corporate exec. his company went down the shitter, got a bailout, and now he takes a $100 million dollar BONUS. that means my dad would have to work 2000 lifetimes (working forty years each) to make what the exec got as a bonus.

(we need to talk more lol) at his peak, he made around 500k, now we are losing money because we are being taxed on money that we havent gotten yet from overseas (6 month rule in china) and going to get once again, slammed by this new tax, even though we dont have any money coming in fast, as it said 6 months ago.

    btw, flat tax works in taiwan and hong kong, with some of the best results in the world.(no more space

  • @buddahbully that's because taiwan and hong kong are made up of one thing: businessmen! the are "special regions" set aside by the chinese government, basically for the purpose of international business. that's it. sure a flat tax works if everyone is making so much it doesn't matter, but it could never apply to a country like the u.s.! just because a hat fits me doesn't mean it will fit you, too.

  • @Chslosers no, a flat tax is actually a regressive tax, because there is much less discretionary income for a middle- or lower-class person than a rich person has. so while rich people (even after taxes) still have more than they could ever spend, often to the tune of hundreds of times what a middle-class person will make in a lifetime in one year. taxes should be assessed on the money that people don't need to spend just to get by, which is, by definition, a progressive tax.

  • not really.. the progressive tax is only kept in play because it allows us to spend beyond our means. Flat tax can be a low tax like Ireland but it wouldn't allow us to have a massive foreign policy. I see nothing wrong with that.

    Palin has been destroyed by the media any way you look at it. The lame-stream media did more vetting of her in 1 month after she was announced as McCains running mate, than they did to Obama even to this day.

  • Well if people get their news from SNL, there's not much hope. The fact is, the media's role is to uncover things about politicians. Palin went through the same thing that happens to every politician, if you come away from that scrutiny tarnished, that's not the fault of the media. They do nothing but expose findings. Palin exposed herself in the election as someone who isn't very well informed or prepared for the job she was tapped for.

  • Brilliant idea! Who do you suggest will be handing out the fines, the government? So the government should somehow handle determining the truth in the media and sanctioning news?   • I agree that their should have been more reporting and less speculation. But the problem is not bias at MSNBC. The bias is inherent in cable news and the 24 hour news cycle that requires anchors to fill vasts amount of time with "stuff," whether well-researched or not. This is an example of Palin's political naivete, why would you make such an announcement in a such rushed and incomplete way, and expect that the media wasn't going speculate about any and all possibilities. She is not ready.

  • Its not the news media to decide if she ready or not, it's the voting public. Not saying the media shouldn't be critical of her policy in commentary. However, reporting stories that have nothing to do with her ability to lead, such as claiming her disabled child is actually her daughters or reporting details about her daughters pregnancy should be off limits. It always was with other politician. I won't even get into her being called a slut or jokes about her daughter being raped on latenight.

  • I wish the media wouldn't do a lot of things. I wish Rush Limbaugh didn't make fun of Chelsea Clinton. I wish the media didn't report conspiracy theories and innuendo about the Clintons. I wish late night comics didn't make fun of Hillary's looks and question her femininity. I wish they didn't report on her clothes. MSNBC is relaying a story from a "Progressive" blogger that Palin embezzled money from Alaska and is under investigation by the FBI. All MSNBC had to do was call the FBI to substantiate it. If they did they would of found it was all a lie. But instead MSNBC reports it as truth. This kind of nonsense has been going on the last 8 months. That's why Palin is suing.

  • Yes, they are false. After Palin threatened to sue, msnbc hurried up and called the FBI to see if they could substantiate the story and the FBI said it was false. They said there is no investigation into Palin embezzling anything, never was. That's why msnbc took it off their web site. Makes you wonder why they just didn't call them in the 1st place.

  • I wish Republicans didn't make a political issue of private family issues. I wish Republicans didn't demean unwed and/or teenage mothers. I wish Republicans didn't hold politicians and their families to impossible moral standards. But they did. For two decades, they made morality and sin a key concern of the conservative movement. Yet whenever one of their own cannot live by those same standards they say its unfair to discuss it. That's hypocrisy, and its wrong.

  • The point is that the reason that media scrutinizes personal and family lives of politicians is because Conservatives pushed the media during the 80s and 90s to make an issue out of private morality, individual and family. And, quick frankly, Bristol's pregnancy is a political issue because of Palin's view of sex education, contraception, and abortion. Plus, do not forget Palin allowed Bristol to appear on the cover of People magazine and discuss her baby.

She managed to double state revenue without increasing taxes on the people of her state, thus able to raise the level of everything from education and safety to future investments for the state, while also managing to have the best oil and natural gas development plan that included protecting the environment.
