Watching these clips from older F1 races, one can really appreciate how BORING the F1 has become. Close to no more passing and "sportsman" drivers make for real boring races.
@FormulaOneFan4Eva Yes I have, and they bore the hell out of me. 8 times out of 10, the starting grid will be the final results. Sure, the cars trailing the pack pass each other a lot, but they never show it on TV. Besides, F1 nowadays is more about engineering prowess than real driving skills. When I want to watch REAL drivers, I watch the WRC.

Gilles had to have special thicker drive shafts made for his ferrari, because he drove sideways over the curbs and always broke the standard ones. He loved having to have heavy duty shafts. Enzo Ferrari described Gilles fondly as the 'High Priest of Destruction' and from the time of knowing Gilles until Enzo' death his office in Maranello was a simple room, lined with red leather on the walls. Inside was a single desk in the centre with just a phone on it and a framed picture of Gilles.
@111teamomori Gilles started out racing snowmobiles and was completely at ease sliding around corners and having his vision obstructed due to snow. He absolutly loved racing and put every dime he had into it. The Great Enzo Ferrari was like a God to Gilles and gave him the opportunities to drive F1. Here in Canada we dont follow F1 as close. We were just a frozen bunch of hicks back in Gilles hometown. Italy loved Gilles and Gilles loved them
I'm Canadian and my three favorite countrymen ever are Gilles Villeneuve, Terry Fox and John Candy. All three were legendary and all three were sadly taken far too soon. But it's gratifying to know what they accomplished when they were here is still celebrated all over the world today.
On one qualifying session, he was going on opposite lock on turn 4 on Monaco all the time, so some professional photographers went there to get a close picture of him coming trough opposite lock....none of them got it, because every time he came around, they kept thinking he was going to crash and kept jumping back for cover :)

Jacques Villeneuve (brother of Gilles, not the one that won on Williams in 1997) drives snowmobiles and he's like 60 yrs old and still takes crazy accidents and restart racing even if the doctors are saying he cant.
I was 12 When Gilles Died & It was the first time I cried when someone died outside of my family. I felt the same way when Phil Lynott died. Both were true genius & affected my life. I followed F1 since '78 & only Schumacher filled the void - I followed Ferrari through thick n thin for a long time B4 Schumi came along. Niente paragoni . Senna è Senna, Villeneuve è Villeneuve, due cuori diversi con i propri pregi e difetti, e nessuno può paragonarli.
Proprio come la forza del fuoco e quella dell'acqua che da la vita non sono compatibili, ma sono entrambe due forze indispensabili e maginifiche, così è per due piloti che hanno dato la loro vita per l'essenza di questo sport bellissimo che ora è solo un business per molti, ma per i tifosi e i piloti può essere soltanto una passione, forse della vita.

Des exploits incroyables. De longues glissades controlées et un pilotage toujours au fil du rasoir. À Monaco, on disait qu'il touchait aux affiches collées sur le rail sans toucher le rail lui-même. Lo scorso mercoledi sono stato alla galleria Ferrari e quando sono arrivato davanti alla Tua 126 CK mi sono sciolto e ho pianto come un bambino, non ce l'ho fatta a resistere all'emozione!! Sono passati 27 anni dalla tua scomparsa ma TU sei e sarai per sempre nei nostri cuori! Ciao GILLES!!! Ti voglio bene..

Des exploits incroyables. De longues glissades controlées et un pilotage toujours au fil du rasoir. À Monaco, on disait qu'il touchait aux affiches collées sur le rail sans toucher le rail lui-même. Chaque tour de piste était un défi lancé aux lois de la physique. Dans un siècle, on dira encore que personne ne l'a remplacé. Salut Gilles!
