  • UR HOT

  • back in the 70's guy I knew joined the peace corps, they sent him to some dangerous south american craphole, the natives stole everything he had, he came home after a couple months, said he was lucky to have gotten out alive, didn't have a Disney cartoon view of the world anymore.

  • im thinkin about joining...what languages would u recament to learn?

  • @ArcticW01F A mastery of English should be a good start. After that, it just depends on the region where you want to be stationed.

  • @TheOuthouseMouse Hi, I'm thinking about joining the peace corps. I'm a combat medic for the U.S Army and after my enlistment is up I'm going to head to college to get my bachelors in nursing(only 2 years for me). I know it's really competitive to join the peace corps but I would like to try applying. I was wondering if theres anything I could do to higher my chances of getting accepted? Hopefully I'll be able to do volunteer work and internships while in college

  • What about method of entry ? Im signing up in two months , and was wondering what method do they use to place you in a country . And also , what about what they are looking for in a person for the Peace Corps ? I have been teaching and practicing primitve living and self-reliance skills for over 6 years and was wondering if that could play a role in me being accepted ? Thanks

    - Aaron

  • @TatankaOhitika1 It really depends on where you will be stationed and what you plan to do when you're there. I was in Eastern Europe, so the conditions were a bit better than I would expect in, say, Africa. When you speak with your recruiter, they will be more than happy to talk about all of these things ans answer any questions that you may have. You shouldn't feel foolish about not knowing.

  • @TatankaOhitika1 It just depends on what you want to do. When you sit down with a recruiter and discuss all of these questions and your concerns, you should be a lot more at ease about what you will be doing and where.

  • Why didn't you finish the 2 years? Did you quit or did something happen?

  • @Adeptmind It's a bit of a long story... I started getting worried about being able to find a job when I got back along with a host of other things. Long story short, conditions were right at that moment for me to go home early.

  • YOU ARE SO AWESOME! i loved your stories... i am really thinking about joining the peace corps.

  • @xBeckeyx I am glad that you enjoyed this video. I really need to make some more...I've just been lazy, I suppose.

  • Take a look at peacecorps.gov for more information and details on what you can do and where in the Peace Corps. It really is one of the truly great things that our government does.

  • what do you do in the peace corps

  • Totally cute.

  • Hey I'm 17 and I really want to join the peace corps but I don't really know anything about it. What do you really do ? Would you reccomend me to join the peace corps ? And how are the living conditions? I'm really confused on what to do lol

  • You are cute :)

  • @PinkLeopard80s Thanks. I try.

  • You say you spent like a year and a half for the Peace Corp. Well wut if I'm in undergrad and wanna just spend a summer or two for the Peace Corp, is that possible, or is there a minimum of service you have to dedicate?

  • @cdutta1990 Typically, the required term of service is two years, though you can extend if you want.

  • I am still researching the Peace Corps -- I'm very interested in it and I recently graduated from College. My question(s): 1. What kind of research did you do beforehand to ensure that you were as prepared as possible? 2. What kind of work did you do in Moldova and was it anything like an experience you had on your resume?

  • Is it possible for a motivated individual to join the peace corps straight out of high school?

  • Short answer is yes. See the Peace Corps web page at peacecorps.gov.

  • hahahaha the funny thing is im ukrainian and my mom believes the same thing... when i take a shower i cant leave the house until my hair is dry becouse "the wind with blow through my head"... did you say Nwest hwy?

  • Do peace corp volunteers get paid at all, at least some to keep up with some family members back home.

  • @shumanitutonkaowachi Peace Corps volunteers receive a small stipend, which varies depending on where they are posted.

  • @shumanitutonkaowachi yeah the peace corps give you and allowance while serving that is the equivalent of what the average person makes in the place you are serving. After you're done servings, they give you like $7,000 to $8,000 or something like that so you can get back on your feet, get an apt. or w/e. It's your money to do what ever you want with it.

  • I'm planning on joining the peace corps in the near future. What kind of things did you have on your resume, such as experience in volunteer work or jobs?

  • @MsFields94 I submitted a standard resume -- nothing unusual. I think the important part of the process is when you go in for the interview. It's just like any other interview. Be straightforward and honest.

  • Sa moara mata bai..romanii stiu sa citeasca si sa intoarca pagina

  • Pretty cool story!! I'm in the process of applying. How was your experience? Did they require a ton of volunteer work from you before you entered?

  • No. All they required was a college degree. You should go for some place in eastern Europe.

  • should i join the state department or peace corps.

I think my mom will have a caniption if she finds out i'm actually contemplating the peace corps. we thought they were smelly hippies growing up.

my question is, I want to help Africans, I'm assuming they'd would rush to assign me to an African country right? but how much influence could I have on the local population, like if they were growing tea leaves, yet everyone is starving could i say "maybe you should grow rice?"

  • @shakaama Now, I have never been in the peace corpse, but I assume that you get into an extensive programme before you go, and learn about what you are to do and in what ways you can help :)

  • @shakaama Oh, and go to their websites! There is a lot of info there!

  • so true!

that's why I hate Moldovan buses and trolleybuses in summer - there's always an old lady concerned with the "curent". Just have to shut up and sweat like a pig or confront the evil babushka))

how about a story about "private space" in Moldovan public transportation:)))

  • In my village, the kolhoz had a short bus that would go to Ceadir-Lunga (the big town) once a week on Wednesdays. There was always a line and the bus was always overpacked. I remember once, I got there early and had to elbow aside a couple of grandmas to get a place. I ended up sitting on some woman's lap.

  • i have no skills can i still join

  • volunteer all you can and get active in your community

  • I found this all pretty interesting, but could you really not be bothered to turn off the TV (or radio or whatever) that is blaring in the background the whole time?

  • I plan on joining the peace corps after I graduate with my Masters in Mechanical Engineering. I am somewhat spoken in Spanish and have a minor in Russian. Do you have any guess as to what kind of assignment they would give me?

    Thanks.

  • AppliedRisk, I hope you're not on Marco Gabaldon's team.

  • Hello,

Your are going to think this is weird but...I currently work at Fidelity, we are slow so they are pushing sales stuff on us, and I am in the middle of the Peace Corps application process. This was too weird not to mention. : )

  • Cant wait to volunteer

  • Wow, I'm a volunteer in bulgaria and there's the same fear of breezes! I wonder if it's Eastern Europe wide?

  • It's odd that you say that. It must be a cultural thing. They called it the "current."

  • if i volunteer. what do i get to do ???

  • There is billions of different types of jobs you can do! They will choose what they think suits you best. They take all your skills and medical conditions into consideration, for example, if you have Asthma, they will make sure you are close to a medical facility so you can be treated, if needed, or if you already speak another language fluently, they'll place you in that country. Go to peacecorps (dot) gov , for more information.

  • so what do they have against macs?

  • turn off the tv and you won;t lose your train of thought

  • what is the show going on in the background? btw, i'm thinking about joining the peace corps too. nice story

  • Moldova! That is where i would love to be placed. Were people accepting of you there? Honestly, do you think that they considered you as a positive influence or did they loathe your presence and scoff at your attempts to help them? That is one of my worries...

  • im 17 and CANT wait to join, its my life calling, i cant stop telling people about how excited i am!

  • I did 3 tours as a Peace Corps Volunteer and would like to do it again. It is the world's best relief program.

  • LOL.

  • How about talking about what you did in the Peace Corps...the bus story was funny.
