  • hard

    so it!

    greath

  • just enjoy the epic music nuff said

  • i listen to this song like ten times a day

  • Ripper Owens FTW

  • it's good..............

  • this song is beautiful

  • ICED EARTH WITH NO MATT...IS NOT ICED EARTH ...HE WAS THE SOUL..AMAZING VOICE..!!!

  • Αις ντερθ αις ντερθ αις ντερθ...!

  • Barlow sounds amazing no matter what he is singing, and thats doubly true here, but Owens made this song. The sorrow he put into the first half made him sound like he really was an amnesiac, while his screaming is just purely the triumphant rage of the setians. That being said, the version of them together is by far the best version.

  • ICED EARTH FOR LIFE!

  • Iced Earth stopped being relevant after their little trip to Republican bullshit. I can only laugh at the latest albums, and they were my number one band.

  • i hope they get it together again for sure

  • Ripper does a great job on his version, but this song was screaming for Barlow's voice. The version with them singing it together (via edits) are a lot of fun and powerful sounding. Their 2 voices sound great and really compliment each other.

  • dont know about u guys but i like them bothxD

  • Generally, i prefer Barlows voice, it is indeed phenomenal, but when it comes to the clouding, i just think Ripper's voice sounds so perfect with the guitar tune/riffs. Definitely not saying this version is bad in anyway

  • I hate it that Matt Barlow left again, but at the same time, I won't have to worry about getting Framing Armageddon again with Matt re-doing the vocals.

On a side note, I bought my bass at the same store that Jon Schaffer gets his guitars from.

  • 'show me a purpose pleeeeaaaassee....' wow that part is just so godly, its perfect

  • I could not agree to those who say, one of these singers is better than the other. I love Ripper's crispyness and strength and aggressivity. A also love Barlow's roundness and deepness. I think these names are to be remember and will surely be for many years to come. They are two of the greatest singers in heavy metal history.

  • Barlow is better in the first part of the song (melodic) then when it gets heavy i like Ripper better

  • Bartlow and owens are two of the best voices of heavy metal right now...you must be proud because iced earth have these singers!!

  • Matt Barlow makes Ripper Owens sound like shit

  • @92honkeytonk owens always sounds like shit

  • matt barlow is the best ever! * dislikes are absolutely ignorant to good music!

  • matt barlow is the best ever!

  • I think this song sounds best with the two singers together

  • I normally prefer Owens on this album, but I have to admit Barlow one-upped him on this one.

  • ripper and barlow both sound epic

so stop saying wich is better

  • @madeofmetal1990 Matt is obviously the better vocalist for Iced Earth...Ripper sucked in IE

  • @JLeoricZ just shut up and enjoy the music

  • @madeofmetal1990 what do you know about music retard

  • @madeofmetal1990 how can i enjoy something as pathetic as Ripper Owens

  • @JLeoricZ that's what i call respect assbanger. something you will never learn

  • @madeofmetal1990 Matt, he a has a better voice

  • @madeofmetal1990 The dude from Pagan's Mind is better... and for whatever reason I can't get into Ripper's layered high notes.

  • to survive this harsh reality - this was the best song fragment

  • MATTHEW BARLOW -- BEST HEAVY METAL SINGER. FUCK YOU IF YOU DISAGREE, I DONT CARE

  • This is so beautiful, only Matt could provide the depth required to make it complete.

  • Temaso temaso pero Temaso wn !!!1

  • anyone else notice the Tri-Forces on the cover?

  • @thehomelessman zelda :D <33

  • 7 peoples heads are too clouded.

  • Do not get me wrong, Ripper is an amazing singer, Judas Priest forever (Halford is better). But this song was MADE got Barlow.

  • @XenoJack0 On second thought, I think Ripper might have actually been better at the part after 5:20

Fuck I don't know >.< They are both so good.

  • I could listen to this song all day. Iced Earth is definately one of my favorite bands.

  • Anyone else up for another D&Ws album?

  • @SweetOdinsRavens Dude, YES.

  • I always thought this song was about the origins of the human race. Kind of waking up on this weird beautiful planet confused and curious. I always thought the heavy part at the end was aliens explaining their agenda to the human race. That's kind of my take on this song.

  • @UltMitSinner78 The aliens never explain their agenda

The lyrics state "We wiped their minds"

Another lyrics is: "Fate, we sealed human fate. Now they're ours for all time to manipulate"

Spoken in the first person about the humans. Not in first person to the humans.

Their plan is to wipe the mind of the human race and then when their savior Set Abominae is born, he will lead the Setians in killing all humans. Then the humans' attempted genocide of the Setians will be revenged

  • Matt Barlow owns iced earth..hands down

  • Sorry but Judas-Priest Ripper OWNS this song in every way

  • 6 min -----this mighty guitar sound kicks ass so badly!

  • People stop fighting and accept both barlow and ripper are made of pure awesomeness!

Personally, I love both, they fit in perfectly.

  • 5 people failed to evolve in Mother Nature's Plan!!!

  • I love that metal guys argue about what song falls into what genre or what genre is defined by what. I got news fellas we're the only ones listening who would knwo a difference or would even care if it came down to it. Seriously walk up to your typical 20 something and ask if they what Power Metal is or Iced Earth for that matter was playing Enter the Sandman one time and a girl in her 20s asked me who it was I said "it's off the black album" she say no joke "This isn't Jay-Z" Sad huh?

  • @TheAcesNeights It's worse than sad....it's a disgrace.

  • @brnleague99 pretty much I've also been asked who sings highway to hell. I was like uh are you serious? also a dumb 20 something female my generation is an embaressment but what pisses me off the most is i get lumped in with those tools

  • @TheAcesNeights "Highway To Hell" AND "It's A Long Way To The Top (If Ya Wanna Rock N Roll)" are BOTH by AC/DC. *grin* You know that and I know that. *grin*

  • @brnleague99 Lol true that

  • @TheAcesNeights Dood what do you think of The Glorious Burden? "Attila" and "The Gettysburg Trilogy" are fucking righteous.

  • Stu Block is replacing Barlow now. I would like to see how he fits with the band IMO stu is better than Ripper and Barlow

  • Too bad Barlow left again. I would have loved to hear him sing this live. He's even better than Ripper on this.

  • he is still singing live until the end of the year as I understood so far...

  • There is no other but barlow for iced earth :)

  • this guy sounds way better then the other guy

  • Effin Siiiick!!! Iced Earth has some of the sickest beats and guitar riffs ever created in music! This makes the person calling lil wayne "music" or "talented" sound stupid as hell.. And like fitting a ring to a finger or a key to a door Matt Barlow is Iced Earth! Period! Ripper can keep "When the eagle crys" cause thats the only song he really sang well and he actually sang it instead of trying to hit that high pitched scream of his.. Man John Schaffer has some real talent for music

  • I love the Ripper as much as the next guy, but this song sound even better with Barlow.

  • barlow rules . period . bam

  • fucking love Barlow, he's so much better than most of the thin voiced whiney pussies in most power metal bands

  • @ace4401

If you think this is Power metal then you fail...

If you don't think that sorry for this anoying comment...

But Iced Earth is Heavy Metal if a few Power metal influwence...

    Nothing more or less...

  • @manslayer8132

im gonna have to disagree with you on that one, i find a lot more parallels between Iced Earth and other power metal bands like Blind Guardian and Stratovarius than i do with more traditional heavy metal bands like Iron Maiden Judas Priest and others like that. But thats just my opinion, in this case genre doesnt mean too much, I still think Matt Barlow is a great singer

  • @ace4401

I couldn't agree more with your last words :D

But still for the guitars they play a lot of heavy metal riffs. i play guitar by my self and try to learn all IE songs.

And you can simply hear the diffrence if you see what both guitars play ^^

  • @manslayer8132 You could impossibly paste one genre on them and say thats just it. thats just closeminded as fuck.

  • @manslayer8132 Iced Earth is in fact Power metal. It has some Heavy Metal influences and a bit thrash but ask anyone and 5/6 people will say power metal if they actually know music. Just because they sound like something sometimes doesn't make them that forever.

  • @manslayer8132

Power metal is a style of heavy metal music combining characteristics of traditional metal with speed metal, often within symphonic context.

^dat wiki, I agree with it.

  • Wow, this is far better without the dentist drill shrieking on vox. Barlow BELONGS in this band.

  • i think ripper's voice suits this song better but idk y

  • different version?

  • Beautiful song, thank you for the upload!

  • I dunno if maybe it's the tone of his voice but His singing gives me the shitz...

  • Both Ripper and Barlow are undeniably talented singers, but Barlow's voice is unique. The only singers who can compare to him in metal are Devin Townsend and Hansi Kursch, IMO.

  • @sausagedogmcgee I see you forgot Roy Khan, and Mikeal Akerfeldt

  • @Dusearly

I don't think you can compare Roy Khan and Matthew Barlow...

Both are amazing but i don't want to hear Matt singing Kamelot or Khan singing Iced Earth songs...

  • @sausagedogmcgee oh and Bruce Dickinson, michael kiske

  • @sausagedogmcgee check out twilightning

  • his voice is like one of those that are weird, different but addictively good.... the world of music is so confusing! XD

  • The first part of this song is definetly written for someone like Barlow with his emotional voice and the second part could well be written for both Barlow and Ripper, but Barlow didn't use his high-pitch Dracula voice for the second part of the song which I don't understand why and his voice was mixed very low so it's almost like he wasn't in the second part..:-( While Ripper delivered full power like The Reckoning power.:-D

  • Too bad they dropped Owens. His vocals were sooo much better than Matt's, IMO. I started listening to Iced Earth when Tim was singing for them and I find his range and power far superior. Matt... meh, just doesn't quite cut it. Sounds weird. On this song, he really, really sucks compared to Tim.

  • @MrJunkacct1 In my point of view i think Matt Barlow is x100 times better than Owens not in this song but generally singing the iced earth songs. Hes voice has something special that no other vocalist has.

  • @ftirakos He's okay on some stuff, but overall, I find his nasally voice kinda irritating.

  • Comment removed

  • Barlow is Iced Earth. So much better than the others.

  • Both Matt Barlow and Tim Owens are great vocalists, but Matt is the true voice of Iced Earth and he always will be. Owens did well in his place for a couple of Albums; I still keep a copy of Glorious Burden wrapped in plastic, being on of my favorites, but I have every other album done by Barlow and the guy before him. Frankly, Barlow is just impossible to equal, and his voice goes very well with the music played by Iced Earth.

Though honestly, he did well for Pyramaze too XD

  • I would love to hear a duet version, with some parts done by tim and some by matt. Matt for the first half and Tim starting at "Lies, the human core is lies..."

  • @y2kgecko There's a version like that in Youtube. Search for "The Clouding Custom" or something like that.

  • This song was for Owens and he fucking nailed it. Matt does a nice job, but it isn't better. Anyway, it's just a song, Matt's still my favorite.

  • yeah... Barlow is the true voice of Iced Earth, period. but Ripper owned the hell out of this song. Matt just didn't seem to deliver it full-throttle.

  • Barlow is fucking great, but this song was written for Tim

  • Could just be that I'm used to it, but I like Tim's version better. As I sit here though, beer in hand, I always enjoy a good singer such as Matt. Cheers, mate!

  • Barlow's voice is just...awesome. I mean, tons of people sing really high or do low register pig squeals, but Barlow is like the mild sauce in vocals. Just high enough to chime, but low enough to sound powerful. Not thin and whinny.

  • I bow before Barlow, I bow before Owens.

And I bow to Iced Earth.

Unfortunately that does not mean Barlow doens't fuck this up, man, this is just a big shame. :(

    I.M.H.O. ofc.

  • Hmmm....they´re both great singer....

but I think the Ripper version of this song is better

  • Nice, but in my opinion Ripper did this song very well, too!

  • With Matt on vocals this is clearly the best song from Framing Armageddon

  • Both versions are good no one else could do as good as this like Matt or Tim they are very great vocalist in the power metal scene, and they are very great just listen to charred walls of the damned with Tim new great band with Richard Christy and Pyramazes album with matt is great to

  • Fuck you, guy.

  • barlow definately sounds 10x better than ripper in this song.

  • @brandomaster90

I think this version is better than Ripper's.

  • @brandomaster90 Do you know if Iced Earth does still play the old songs live? I'd like to see them live but I'm unsure. I really would like to see Barlow playing the old songs or at least to see the old songs and not just the new ones.

  • @Fleshshredder matt playd his last gig with Iced Earth just 2 days ago :-( luckily i saw them before... they played only songs off the first seven albums and "decleration day". It was a great show and especially "The Coming curse" and "Travel in Stygian" were awesome!!

  • @Fleshshredder you're a bit late bub. he's gone now.

  • @Fleshshredder of course they do.

  • The heavy part in this song is so fucking wicked, my mind is literally blown every time I hear it.

  • Comment removed

  • dudes dont argue enjoy the song.this is a briliant song with nice lyrics

  • @ bakvarnyu thats the most most ridiculous thing i ever heard.....

  • Great!

  • matt barlow is definetely better than tim ripper!!but as long as tim was the singer of iced earth he did a great job!!matt barlow and iced earth 4ever!!meeeetal!

  • The range of Matt's voice blows me away more than the awesome high pitched vocals of Tim's honestly. Though I love both but Matt is definitelty the most fitting and always will be.

  • As I awake I have no memory of this

Who I am, where I'm from, why do I exist?

    This strange beauty surrounds me

But where I am confounds me

I see others who appear the same as me

A look of loss in their eyes, adrift aimlessly

What's the point? What does it all mean?

Who am I? Show me a purpose please

  • Take this sense of wonder

    Make it go away

Please tell me I am not alone and lost here

That there is something that's made me feel this way

    Take this sense of sadness

    Make it go away

Please give me something that's familiar

A friendly touch, a memorable embrace

  • I try to speak but empty eyes stare back at me

Twisted tongues segregate, factions are forming

I'll stay with those that resemble me

    To survive this harsh reality

As the days pass most have gone their own way

    Nomadic tribes discover life

On a world that seems so strange

    But still I want answers

What's the point? What does all this mean?

  • Iced earth has the coolest album covers

  • He has such a great voice whether he's doing a song like Pure Evil or a metal ballad like this, he can do it all.

  • Matt sounds better on this song Tim isent a bad singer just dosent fit iced earth with those high pitch vocals

  • iced earth always rocks no matter what singer is involved!!!! but barlow in my opinion does fit iced earth better, but to be honest, i dont really care, it all fucking owns!!!!!!

  • Barlow top metal singer of all times get over it

  • I like both versions, but this version is just special to me and I just love it.

But I gotta say that I prefer some songs from Framing Armageddon done by Tim(A charge to keepfor example):)

  • ripper will beat barlow lol ?

  • It's very rare that I hear a re-recording of a song I loved done better than the original, but this is absolutely special. Brilliant job.

  • Try the early stuff then listen to days of purgatory, re recording that is amazing... some songs it's close, but the really early stuff (IE self titled album) is so much better

  • Under other circumstances, ripper would beat barlow hands down, but I must concede the Barlow is a beast on this one.

  • lol what idiot gave me thumbs down ? are you stupid or wtf barlow is god

  • barlow kill ripper end of story brothers

  • i inherited from my cousin 3 iced earth cds whenhe died....i have every disk now.... hope hes watching over me..... i know it .... a gods voice.......ICED EARTH HALELUJAH...

  • Too BloodyBlade999 actually Jon and Matt are brothers in law Matt married Jon's sister so they do have a sort of symboince with each other now.

  • haha. Farming Armageddon. Thanks vortice.

  • Barlows voice is great but its overrated. The original version was better. (waits for matt barlow nutswingers to give me thumbs down)

  • Matt isnt Overrated he's a verry unique vocalist and so is Tim.

None off these versions i preffer over the other they both are good they just give a different feeling i think.

Ripper makes the song sound sad while Matt makes it rather sound abit more pasionate.

  • Agreed. If you listen to the custom version with both singers you can feel the sadness in Tim's voice.

  • when i hear matts voice something grabs me it has something special , love way he sings slow or hard songs it has something i cant explane im sure if you like matts vocie you know what i mean. long live matt:)

  • i know what you mean its the same thing for me too i cant explain this special thing in his singing who grab you and give you some chills!

  • why the f**k r u people rating this video poor matts the best 5*

  • I think that this song would sound best if they had Barlow sing the first 6 minutes of it and then have Ripper sing the last 3 minutes.

  • the best album of iced earth with matt in vocals is horror show, and definetly the best album with the ripper is farming armaggedon i thought that that the the original song has more feeling in the voice

  • I vote for ripper on this song! Guess you´re mostly used to the version you heard first, so that is why for me. Actually I got crazy ideas, why not keep BOTH singers now :-D Then use Barlow as first and Ripper as second lead voice, but leave the choir away they used on albums.

  • Ripper is not as good as barlow! MAn Barlows bring so much emotions in this song! I'M a REALLY big fan of barlow and i hate Ripper. I just think his voice IS good, but not with that band, mat IS icedearth and iced earth is mat. RIpper did a good job but barlow kick ass. much more than ripper in iced earth

  • Mr. Schaffer is also of great importance, however... ;)

If Jon recruits good musicians for the rest, it's OK... But Matt and him they must be there to be able to create the very special atmpsphere which has made the band so famous... I didn't really like Ripper either with Iced Earth but I still think he's a real talent, even if there is a certain lack of emotion in his great voice...

  • I still like Ripper's version better.

  • I like Barlow a lot, probably more than Ripper, but I must admit Ripper did an awesome job on framing armageddon. This song was designed for Ripper, and he sounds better on it.

  • You couldn't have said it better.

  • amazing vocals.......that's matt..the best heavy metal singer in my opinion

  • I heard Barlow was back....AWESOME!

  • You know I just heard this like two hours ago (yeah I know, he's back since 2008...), and I was like HELL YEAH!!! \m/ BEST NEWS OF THE YEAR SO FAR!!!

  • I really enjoyed this version, barlow is tha man =D

  • I think when Jon wrote this song he still had Matt in mind for the vocals, though Ripper's version is pretty solid to it showed that his low end was maturing.

  • Comment removed

  • I enjoy Barlow's version, but I must say... Schafer's voice had a certain edge for this song.

  • what do you mean?

schaffer has never sang this song, the orginal vocalist for this was tim owens.

  • Was it? Oh, fair enough :) I prefer Owens' version then.
