The reason people have a bad impression of Islam is that the "moderates" do not try hard enough to disassociate from the extremists. You guys have a lot of work to do before we start seeing you differently. There is a lot of killing going on, as we speak, because of Islam. You can keep living in denial and say it doesn't concern you, or that it's just politics, but what you are missing, is the guts to OPENLY denounce and protest.
