  • so if i cut a small piece out of my engine shroud stuck one of those contraption on there would it charge a 12v lawnmower type battery

  • is that a tooney?

  • Man, Pug, you are full of ingenuity!! I love watching your videos... I'm going to be trying all of your recipes, and this lighting trick as well! You really inspire your fans to think and to try different things eigh!!! And then we cheeched!

  • Does it matter if it's a DC or an AC motor?

  • why not just strap the flashlight to the tractor? lol

  • i want to do a set up kinda like this for my gas powered bike project but the only thing i can think is bad. once the stepper stops turning no more power, is there any way you hook up a little battery , maybe a rechargeable aa inside of the flash light ? any ideas would be helpful

  • You can make a generator out of a stepper motor, sweet.

I didn't even there were things like stepper motors until yesterday when I took apart an old scanner/printer. I looked them up on wikipedia and kinda lost interest when I found out you need a driver IC or something to run 'em but this video gave me some idea's, thanks.

  • Next time you do a vid...first, flip the frickin antler on the light switch, eh?

  • Hey dude nice traptor eh!!! And LOVED your tractor christmas lights eh!! I thought it was funny when your female companion yelled at you for dissing the ornaments in the window eh! excellent video overall i learned alot.

  • you can you this motor to power an transformer and a bridge rectifier and will give you some high voltage on the other side :D

  • why is everything always referred to as a "guy" ??

  • What would you say the definition for "antler" is?

  • that was a fringin' ahhsome video. eh? i wuz gonna watch more stepper motor stuff but, i'm gonna watch that video about "gittin' busted by the fuzz. first.

  • is that an AC delco flashlight from PA???i was looking at buying one....

  • Great video! You make more sense talking like a normal person, makes it a lot easier to learn and a lot more fun....Thanks

  • Hey Guy, I think u lost me with some of that technical jargon mumbo jumbo. If I wana make one of them lite deals do I need to use both those guys with the buggered up guy?

Just messin around pal, I liked the video and your laidback sarcasm made me laugh.

  • that was a great video!i've got more ideas!:)

  • friggen

  • hello, iam using a little motor from a old remote controlled car, so would u just turn it to make voltage? iam doing that but nothing happens to the light iam using, lol.

  • @TheMadcroc23 it has to be a stepper motor from like a printer or something

  • @1puglife nope any dc motor works

  • @1puglife Please next vid use an infrared camera or... turn on the light, please!

  • @TheMadcroc23 make shure there is no resister on th motor

  • too dark my friend. Thanks anyway for this video, Inspiring me to keep on.

  • man im doing the same thing ryt now my only concern about is the controller of it should i realy need to use one or not and it is ok to use a electric fun blade? pls send me an INFO and a diagram ... i love ur work and idea god bless

  • you refer to a lot of things as "antler"

  • I got one of a old drill but it does not make any power but when i put a battery it spins what is wrong with it?

  • couldn't you just wire that light to your alternator (or battery) and put a resister inline to drop the voltage?

  • yes good idea it can be use in mini wind turbine.....

  • Bubbles!

When did you get a tractor?! You better not Mr. Lahey see it

    Great vid.

  • Good video.

Now I'm gonna have to build somethin.

  • Hey Chris there are 4 windings on that stepper You should be able to get voltage for more than just one winding.

  • @X2YeZCAMCNC ya i tried the other spots to stick the wire but the power was only real good on one set of antlers eigh but it would work for tail lights though eigh

  • You are very informative and creative but your video is a little bit dark..next time puts some lighting for us to see more clearly .Thanks:)

  • this video is frickin inspiring

  • @lukee333 ya buddy you can make anything you put yer mind to buds bam here new invench

  • Ok, you have to be a youtube partner... (Which means you work for youtube and get money!)

  • wow great! where can i find that motor on my old printer? all printer haved that motor?

  • @alviandar yes

    muddy

  • @alviandar there is one that pulls the printer head across the roller. and one that rolls the bar.

    MUDDy

  • ur video is inspiring to me. If u can do this, Than I can to tyvm

  • cool man

  • on what printer can i get a stepper motor? what brand?

  • google says try a dot matrix printer (they're practically antiques so they're very expensive on ebay). they seem to be in most printers so buy a cheap used one and open it up. if it's not there you only lost a few bucks

  • It's good to hear Americans pronounce SOLDER in the proper FRENCH way calling it SODDER and SODDERING keep up the good work.

    Viva Le France!

  • these guys live in canada u dumb frenchie

  • Last time I looked Canada was in North America, when did they move it ?

  • @Mentorcase wtf are you talkin bout?

  • More french than I am.

    FOOL!

  • @Mentorcase hes canadian you frenchy

  • I'm an Aussie.

  • Those LED flashlights usually run off three 1.5v batteries. Total 4.5v. If you use a voltage regulator (like a common 5v regulator 7805) it can handle up to 30v DC IN, and convert to 5v. Then your generator can operate at different rpm and still not overdrive your lights.

  • cool man.

  • probably the camera.

  • what the hell is the deal with sitting in the dark...

  • probably the camera^^^ sorry for posting on the above post.

  • that's cool! 5/5

  • You need to get some more light when making a video, sheesh.

    But cool vid, 5 stars!

  • With the motor running off your tractor wouldn't it run the risk of generating too much electric that the LED's will blow?

  • its gotta be cold as shit there cause i live in the states in maryland and last weekend i was working on my race mower and was really cold after about 2 hours

  • hey pug it is called a brushless motor

  • Great job , Pug !! Making something useful out of old stuff is cool. Good to see you up and around.

  • THANK YOU! I always wondered if those motors would generate power when spun or if you could only power them up for a motor purposes. Would this work with pretty much ANY electric motor? ~anyone?~

Nice set up! U got~R~dun dude!

    *****

  • wow. thats some nice engineering skills. I love how that stepper motor works. Keep the rigging up!! Great work

  • nice pug thats a friggin awesome set up

  • dude this is so crazy im tryin to find my self a stepper motor now for something

  • if u wanna buy one, there are some great electronic surplus sites with them for dirt cheap. PM me for a small list of my fav sites lol

  • This is so cool, SHEEEEEEEEEESH

  • love you vids i made my first one take a look type in french fried forrest

  • Hey Chris how you been almost confused you with Bloke for a second, he's always wearing something that says cat

  • dude i like all your vids but add some light sheesh i cant see anything your doin

  • You too can have a tractor light kit for only 5 easy payments of only $19.95..Mail to PUGguyver enterprizes.. HAHAHA Killer meng! ; D

  • u could also skip all the regulator stuff and just use light bulbs lol then u wont have to worry so much about bringin the voltage down or regulating it so much but it would prob be easier just to use a small car alternator....as it already has the regualtor and everything built in....

  • yeah....those stepper motors run off of 12-24 volts.....youll have to regulate your power or those LED's will blow out

  • Your LED wil burn out in a matter of seconds.

The leds needs to be current regulated.

If you want to let this work, you need some more stuff.

First start with a bridge rectifier, and a condensator, nou you will have a normal DC current.

than you need a stabilizar IC like the 7805 that wil make 5V DC regulated, and if you than place the right resistor in between, the leds will last for years

  • who would of thunked it

  • great friggen video pug, sheesh!

  • Love the vid, but man you sure like to make long videos!!!

  • nice! it works!

  • thats what she said

  • try vacuum cleaner belts they will last a long time

  • work close down due to snow yaaaa yaaaa its a pad snow day :) anything can happen on a snow day :)

  • Cool, Ive thrown out dozens of those printers, damn. Never thought of the goodies inside

  • saying an expression like the word "Sheesh" is no problem, but writing the word is just stupid.....its only written once here, but seen it several times on a 6 line description.....

    Overkill dude.

But the video itself was interesting!! nice work

  • lol i did almost the exact same thing when i was like 14

  • finally, a use for my old printer. good vid

  • sweet!

  • had a old printer infront of me when i watched it tried it out for fun good stuff pug

  • Good one pug.recycling rocks.Brilliant, get some light on your vids too huh!

  • Hey Pug awesome Vid you could some lighting though a little hard to see. Anyways right on, brilliant idea with the printer

  • Are you goin to jump er at night? I never seen a flying wheel horse.

  • Turn some lights on Pug so we can see better.

  • thats what she said

  • by the way Pug I honor ingenuity, excellent job there guy.

  • nice pc panel what kind is that?

  • Nice job, man!

  • COOOL

  • you know you could just incorporate a battery pack in that set up and a poweer switch and let the motor generate power to the battery and use the battery power with the lights,

  • great idea. but one question pug, if your using the permanent magnet motor as a generator, isn't the current AC? i thought those LEDS took 3 volts DC?

  • @austinsiebert its a dc stepper motor

  • Really? huh? never hear of one... Could any one tell me what range of voltage it gives off? Does it have a voltage regulator in it?

  • Stepper motors are found in almost everything..printers..rc cars/planes etc

  • nice dude

u could have ran the different color led on that same motor

see those little leds have a resistor on it so u dont fry them and when u ran it in series like you did it took away all the voltage so that bottom flash light setup didnt come on because the voltage was resisted

if you ran the flashlights in series then ran the little leds in parallel then it would work but it turned out nice dude

  • if you ran the flashlights in series then ran the little leds in parallel then it would work

    yah...I was thinking that too.

  • yep cuz your basically running the whole circuit in parallel but just his high beams in series since theres two

    it would work that way

  • really interesting man, never would have thought of anything like that..... that gives me an idea XD

  • wouldn't that work just as good with a dynamo on the fly wheel ?

  • Great idea, Man! Never would have thought of that.

  • man thats genious, dave rock genious even

  • i have a blue chevy s10, i thought about trying to get blue outdoor christmas lights and use them for redneck neons under it! that set up seems to work great....have fun with it!

  • great vid pug, sweet idea!

  • Awsome

  • how many law taractors u got pug?

  • Cool vid Pug,could of used a bit more lighting but still good. Later-Jaketube.

  • whered you get the farmall lights?

  • Nice video! *****

  • best video in a while...

  • hahahah pardon ... nothing priceless have a good 1

  • That's cool Dude What do you think of all them lights on That one house Sheeesh i said LOL

  • thats preety neat!!! sweet!!! ill have to try it

  • This vid had a little bit of everything.

No body carries on an entertaining conversation like you can.

    Good job, bud!

    Better than TV

  • why dont you open the case up and yank out that ribbon wire and do up some nice leads.. nice vid!

  • how come you never curse?

  • Since you're just using L.E.D. lights you could buy a cordless phone battery pack replacement (they're rechargeable and are already wired up) for $2 at a discount store, and use a toggle switch so you don't overheat the stepper motor or blow the L.E.D.'s.

  • very cool

  • hey pug I got a modification to make get a pivot switch from an old appliance and wire the lights up through the switch and have the motor on the pulley full time

and remember the K.I.S.S rule :)

  • iphone text

  • Hey pug, instead of mounting a little lever to turn the lights on and off you should set it up so its always engaged and just wire a switch into it and mount the switch by the steering wheel

  • stepper motor would burn up

  • wow, thts really creative

  • I have my doubts it will work, but it'll be cool if it does.

  • cool i hava honda tho dont needa small 1 wen i got 2 beats

  • Killer vid man. You're a real redneck Kipkay...

  • pug you can do better then this boring

  • was great seeing it in person. like the hocky puck contact design! yehaw.

  • You can buy 12v led bulbs that are an exact replacement for 12v incandescent bulb. (park light/brake light/turn signal type bulb).

  • love the vids keep'em come'n!

  • your leds are gonna burn out real fast!

  • yeah right those thing last a long time.

  • not if you are pushing 5+ vots into them... they need about 2.3 and if you double it they will burnout fast as hell... he needs a regualtor... then they will last forever

  • That stepper motor only produces 2.3v at 1A for every 1.8 degree step. It produces optimal voltage to push those two banks of LED's and plenty of amperage to run a few more. No worries on LED nukage

  • I would just duct tape two flashlights to the tractor instead.

  • if you give the leds to much power they will burn out rlly fast

  • you should wire a diode in so you don't burn out the led's. they're alot more finicky than a normal lightbulb and easier to fry

  • agree

  • YES PUG #1 videos

  • you my friend are a redneck genious.I think of somethings like that but it is cool to see it put to use.you gave me some use for a old printer that has issues.

  • Thats not going to work for more than 5 Sec.

  • i would have to so it charges a battery+light the lights

  • interesting idea, although I'm a little worried that your DC motor isn't going to last very long turning at that speed. It's not that the motor will burn out, but the brushes inside wear down over time.

  • Stepper motors don't have brushes.

  • @cjhoylemusic

Stepper motors do not have brushes, so no worries there. More likely the LEDs are going to burn out from too much current.

    BTW, love pug's redneck "voltmeter"

  • Yea, thats definitely a possibility, LED's have very low resistance so the current flows through them rather quickly. However, maybe the cluster of LED's from the flashlights has some resistors built into them, because the same problem exists when you use a battery.

  • lol very important to always alert the police of your presence...

  • make sure you use the right voltage on those LED's or you will burn them out

  • good idea pug.....but i dont know if the plastic gears in those motors will last long

  • nice one !

would have thought a printer stepper would burn out easily with that amount of rpms going through it though......

  • hows ya back feelin pug

  • Wow thats a neat little setup there. never would have thought those little motors would put out power like that. sweet

  • great idea

  • go blow something up.

  • friggin make a guy with this guy .. haha i love your words pug there epic

  • who cares if you were 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc...?

  • by the way pug its against the law to have any blue lights on a transportation device aven a lick of em at least that is in the us.

  • @jonathandirtbiker well if u saw the vid of him going to tim hortons its illigal for him to drive his tractor on the streets anyways so i highly doubt he gives a shit
