  • how old is she . cause mine is 11 months and she`s getting horny I don`t really know if its time to breeding

  • i have owned both.. a rottie with a docked tail.. and currently i have a gurl with a full tail.. most European imported dogs will have tails .. it is the law not to dock ... and some breeders adhere to the german standard (which at this point has a tail)..

either way.. they are beautiful dogs.. but i have to say, while it took some getting used to .. i've come to enjoy the thump of her tail when she is happy.. just my opinion...

  • It's amazing how so many people are against the docking of a tail. If they have that much of a problem with it, take it up with the CKC and AKC. Write to your local politicians, or other law makers. Don't waste space on here because it won't do anyone any good. My Rottie doesn't have his tail, but the father does. It's these associations that make the rules.

  • Most working dogs tails were cut, including livestock dogs, hunting dogs, and rodent hunters. Such as Aussie Shepherds, Bulldogs, Terriers, Pointers, some Setters, Spaniels, and many other breeds. If these hunting dogs dont have tails the tail cant make noise in the long grass when they are pointing birds and scare them away. The ratters couldnt have their tails bitten by rats (rats form huge attacks on dogs) and livestock dogs had many benefits from not having tails (see comment below on Rotties)

  • They were cut in history because they were cattle dogs and the build up of manure in their long tails caused spinal problems from the weight and also it would cause the tail to bang the back legs and cause injury. I suppose a cow accidentally stepping on the taiil would not be good either. Having no tail also put their weight on the front end and allowed them to trot for hours! A tail on a Rottie living indoors was not suitible because too many things got knocked over.

  • rottweilers are beautiful when they have tail !

  • Rottweilers used to have their tales docked not because it made them look tough, but because one of their original purposes was to pull small carts (like apple carts) and a lot of them would break the tails in a process. now that majority of rottweilers are not in a cart pulling business - tail docking is no longer necessary (though through generations of breeding for features other then strong tails, they don't look uniform and some of them are fragile) docking is banned in several countries.

  • I think it's sick to cut the tail of because of the dogs look. The look a human wants.. Thats SICK..

  • Rottweilers got tails... its just that some people cut them off

  • Don't they have a tail?

    Why?

  • Rottweilers have short stubby tails

  • Tbh someone who promotes souljaboy in their name shouldn't be listened to, and ironically his comment is crap. Rottweilers DO have tails, but some people "dock" them because some like the look of it. They were originally cut off because the tails got in the way when they used to work, ages back. There is no need to dock them, but it's just what people do nowadays.

  • yes they are born with tails but its very common for the tails to be cut when theyre young. im not sure why, they used to cut them to make them look tough and i think it just became common

  • What I've heard some puppies is born without tail. And some of them become deformed beacuse of the human experiment..

    If that's true, it's sick..

Dogs have a tail because they need it.. Let them keep their tails.. =/

  • no thats not true, they are all born with a tail and they used to be cut off cause they were working dogs and it got in the way. now they're just cut off for looks i guess. but no puppies are ever born without a tail

  • my pup doesnt have a tail.. he looks great! i got him that way. and when i close the door behind him it keep thinking i have to WAIT for the TAIL ,,lol

  • I understand that some people feel that cuting their tails is in humane, but for rotties its healthier because of tail waging can cause hip dislexia!! But either way they are beauties!!

  • Hip dislexia?! What the hell? First of all it's hip dysplasia, dyslexia is when someone has trouble reading or writing, how ironic.

  • HaHaHa. LOL.

  • I completely congratulate you on your achievements! We need more people breeding this wonderful dogs for an actual purpose! Good luck on the littlen'

  • both my rottie have their tails.I must say they look better with. With out their tail, you never see if they are happy, sad or pi**ed off.

  • i have seen them with tails they look better without tails.

  • yes they do, with the tails they look kinda weird anyway i like the pups with tails or without!!!

  • Gorgeous. Shame they don't have their tails.

  • its a good thing that they dont have their tails!!! YOU GOOF!!!

  • Yes mutilating a breed for our aesthetical benefit, a wonderful thing! My rottie has his tail and actually looks like a DOG. Not something bred to make me look "hard". People like you are pathetic and don't deserve opinions. And you just showed everyone who the real "goof" is. (really, best insult you could come up with?)

  • Hey everyone. Lighten up. There's room for both opinions. No need to get hostile.

BTW, they're not docked to make them look "hard". This was initially done when they were used for herding and subsequently pulling carts. This is the recognized AKC standard but in no way makes them more or less of a dog.

They look beautiful both ways :-)

  • I know they're not bred to make them look hard. But walk around my area for an hour and tell me the amount of KC registered Rottie's.

  • Point taken. It all boils down to why you want a particular breed and for what purpose. I work hard to make mine ambassadors of the breed. One of my two has their CGC certification. Still working on my youngest one ;-)

  • Don't let a few bad apples spoil the bunch. Like most things, well raised, well trained rotties are a joy to live with =)

On a personal note, I do prefer my dogs with whole tail, however.
