  • Great video, al that's best in karate , spirit technique and power.

  • It depends on how fast you progress. It took me over 3 yrs to get my brown belt. & kempo is a style of Karate!

  • I love Karate I study Shotokan...And even though I love it I have come to realize Karate konsists of dirty tricks the odd cheap shot, whatever it takes to survive...OSSU!!!

  • @mirageF1AZ Karate is something i love too. I study Kempo, but Shotokan is something I intend to do next!

  • @dakentaijutsu2010 a martial arts brother...lol. You wont be dissapointed in shotokan if you go to the right Shotokan style.

  • @mirageF1AZ finding a good dojo won't be the hard part. but where I'm living there's no Shotokan dojo here in lawton, ok.

  • @dakentaijutsu2010 Having background in karate you will adapt quite quick to shotokan. When I started shotokan my mom had to take me to classess twice a week because the dojo closes to me was like 80miles.

  • @mirageF1AZ I have no doubt about Shotokan, or Kyokushinkai. But what but are you bro?

  • @dakentaijutsu2010 I have studdied shotokan since 1996. I am currently a Blackbelt. I'll be doing my next grading in February. I take it you are from America, I dont know what style of shotokan there is to be found in America but if you can find a KWF shotokan dojo it will be great because they are the most traditional hardest form of shotokan and their philosophy and training goes towards to kill with one technique. Ossu!

  • @mirageF1AZ you're right, I am from America, & I understand about karate & I'm only a brown belt in Kempo. But where are you from?

  • @dakentaijutsu2010 I am from South-Africa. I dont know anything about kempo, all I know is that its almost like karate. How long does it take to become a brownbelt in kenpo?

  • @mirageF1AZ it takes about over 3 yrs to get your brown belt. & takes about 5 to 6 yrs for black belt!

  • @dakentaijutsu2010 Okey...Its the same in shotokan more or less, depends on the individual.

  • @mirageF1AZ you don't have kempo in South Africa?

  • @dakentaijutsu2010 There might be a few kempo dojos here, but shotokan is by FAR the most popular form of karate over here.

  • @mirageF1AZ I actually agree with you on that part. Just like Kempo is popular here in America!

  • Por cierto... Hay que fijarse en el segundo 0'07'' , como Tanaka señala a un punto para engañar y meter el mae geri

  • Buenísima recopilación. Los gyaku tsukis que se ven en los kumités son realmente invisibles

  • WTF! They are really kicking each others ass!

  • 1:58 what kata was that

  • @Bagel156 Shotokan's Chinte :)

  • Who has video of Frank Smith?

  • where to find that kind og drum-music thats on this vid??

  • Where is 3:00 from?

  • This is not actually traditional because there is no competition in traditional karate. Shotokan and Kyokushin have both become sports in their own areas. Traditional Okinawan karate-styles are Goju ryu, Uechi ryu, Matsubayashi Shorin ryu and Kobayashi Shorin ryu. I would also like to add Isshin ryu in this list.

  • @musashi7272 GOJU RYU has competition

  • nice...

  • Best of the best Dynamic blows and speed ..Kime and total control of mind and body thats jka shotokan thats de meaning of kara te empty mind etc....Keep it like dat.OSS for all karatekas and martialist over the world of which style is also .Thnx...

  • I trained with Ohigashi this year.. I think he is seen in this footage about 1:10. Scoring with a uraken. I maybe wrong..

  • at 0:18 thats is totally crazy. Awesome video

  • I dont know about the rest of you but I think the ref should be close to the fight at all times to intervene if necessary!

  • There are some real gems in this video!

  • Pretty fast. Faster then Tekken ;)

  • 0:08 - 0:09:

Shit like dat need 2 b outlawed.

  • @Gauntlets I can't quite tell, but I think that part may have been demonstration. They intermingled the two, so it's difficult to tell. Notice the guy entering in the gi from screen left at the last moment. I suspect there was a third where he pointed. Looks like real Kumite but I am not not so sure. Judges don't wear gi's. That is one heck of a list of masters covered in this film! There are a few very old films. At the end watch the Kumite of many, many years ago!

  • @torro454

We couldn't c a 3rd guy; just a judge with flags. Most likely da guy pointed at da camera 2 b a jackass. Dat is a real kumite. I'm sure of it.

I'm sayin' dat kinda douchbaggery should b outlawed.

  • @Gauntlets I am not convinced. He makes a 180 degree turn towards the person entering the screen. What is he doing there? I have never seen anyone enter the ring during Kumite in all the years I have trained except a judge, baring injury. If your premise is correct, I agree. It violates the fundamental tenements of Shotokan Karate. Respect! I saw the judge but do not have enough information to make a definitive conclusion. I did say it may have been part of demonstration. Hi? Reguards.

  • @torro454 I know the intial comments about this vid were a few months ago but i have only just come across this clip and i think it is competitive kumite because it looks like after the exchange the judge sat down is giving a wazari to aka (another thinking on why it may be genuine kumite is why would matey be wearing red for aka during a demo) and i think the arm at the end maybe givin the guy on the right a wazari. maybe wrong tho :)

  • Nice video

    Oss!

  • jka shotokan. the heart of karate. oss!

  • i dont like the brutality they use in this martial art

  • @SeriousSam505

its a martial art. developed to protect yourself. how do you picture war then?

  • @Kiesel war is ignorance, not for self defense but it is used for a objective for example money, petroleum

  • hey people! what flag is that, at 2:29? socialist republic of croatia?

  • 2:45 beautiful

  • Nice vid, but i never agree with wearing gear, a traind martial artist should be able to pull hit attack back, as to not hurt his apponet.

training with gear only keeps you in training, what i meen you wont be prepared for a real situation, were you wont have gear.

  • i love martial arts but what i dont love are all the people(mostly kids) that see martial arts as real fighting or honorable fighting if you win a fight no matter how you do it your the better fighter. now trust me i dont use any cheap tactics but if someone punches u in the balls or hits your eyes its the fault of the reciever for his inability to dodge or block it. its simple and plain the winner is the winner stop complaining about loseing

  • I agree martial arts is to defend your self in a situation, in witch case you do what you have to do. but dont go cheap shoting ppl in competition.

  • i agree nothing wrong with healthy competition, also it teaches you timing , reflexes, and gives you confidence.

all good as long as the traditional aspect is kept alive, i.e. kata , bunkai, hojo undo, makiwara.

  • totally right.

  • 1:26 rocks.

  • Comment removed

  • Lyoto Machida broke Thiago`s face. He stil trains in karate and in his pre-fight interview he said that he has confidence in his style.

  • And oh. Give me the list of advantages doing your karate.

  • tell that to thiago silva when lyoto machida is beating his ass down

  • Karate Kyokushin win with Muay Thay

  • why...?

  • Why? I don't do the Muay Thai thing but if you'll compare karate to it, its practices are more reasonalbe. In reality, it's not with the style, it's with the fighter itself.

  • Just look. Karate practices have a lot of unnecessary movements which are not really usefull at all.

  • And how do you know this?

  • Are you blind?

  • Well you're just slagging off Karate without explaining yourself. I see the techniques and understand all of them, exactly what, where, why, when and how of the techniques.

There is nothing unnecessary about it. It may look weird to you, but anyone who's studied Karate for a decent length of time will fight like this with ease, and not just in controlled Kumite situations.

  • Try Lyoto Machida, undefeated in MMA.

And there are tons of Karateka who are incredible fighters. Dave Hazard was one of London's top bouncers, back in the day when bouncers weren't polite gentlemen who showed you to the door.

Karate is given very bad rep and everyone gives muay thai great rep. You can't just say that Karate is unnecessary otherwise it wouldn't exist today. If trained correctly it can be lethal.

  • I know Lyoto Machida. I've been watching his videos. I've never seen anything different. He just did the same moves as what most fighters do.

  • Well no because he uses Karate Techniques, movement and strategy, which is why people find him so difficult to fight against.

  • Read the comment I made 3 days ago.

  • Lyoto's counters are mostly JKA moves, of course he knows wrestling, muay thai, jiujitsu also. But his foot sweep takedowns/trips are textbook JKA, same with his striking strategies.

  • This is Real Karate...very good

  • Samurai's Karate. The best.

  • Samurais didon't really know karate, but kendo.

  • i wish Pride FC Japan would've recruited Kokubun, shiina, and Ogata back in 2001. Instead, they chose to recruit dull Judo fighters like Yoshida and Nakamura. Judo really does not work well in MMA

  • muy buenoooo

  • JKA Shotokan the BEST !

  • Great footage - well put together.
