This is an inspired cover. The arrangement is just incredible. Sarah Watkins does a great job on the vocals and Chris Thile is his usual brilliant self on the mandolin.
@zoeruls This cover just brings a completely new style to the lyrics. Which is basically like using the same words to tell a whole new story. What's wrong with that? Most good covers are the ones that have their own distinct style that differs completely from the original anyways. Otherwise, they's mostly turn into crappy re-makes. -palms up- Just saying..
This song makes me tear up everytime. So many memories with this song, it's so beautiful and reminds me of alot of things that hurt to remember. fantastic video.
Great photos. Remind me of horses who have graced my life in times passed. Nights riding horseback under a full moon so bright that you could see your shadow. Happy song.
The song and the video are absolutely fantastic! Who cares if the the gender was changed, it doesn't change the fact that this version is totally outstanding and brings tears to my eyes when I hear it.
I hate it when people alter the gender of the lyrics to work with their own i.e. "If I could hear *his* heart a-softly pounding. Yes and only if *he* was lyin' by me".
Nice version - fairly close to spirit of original - some minor issues - vocals feel rushed - she merely sings somebody else's words. Dylan's version was true to the bone. This one is a bit less so. Still - nice to see this song alive and around.
Why would you be disappointed?!?!? Bob Dylan is one of the greatest song writers ever! Very cool that they are covering this tune . . . beautiful song . . . I prefer Dylan's version by far . . . but this is pretty.
Got it! Now I understand . . . But look at the bright side! This may inspire you to dig deeper into Bob Dylan's music . . . a life long journey into true genius . . . amazing music!
This is a beautiful song. I am hoping you realize that it is a Bob Dylan song, his lyrics and his music. His original version, done with one man and one guitar, is the quintessential rendition of this achingly beautiful song.
Hi Megan - I was totally unaware of Nickel Creek. Great Band! It's fine tune and I love the way the instrument parts wind around each other in the middle section. You choose beautiful pics too!
thanks my love. strangely on the heels of the poem it spoke to me about being apart from God, or feeling that way... love is the common theme, which is a fav, wink!
Judy Collins' version USED to be my favorite version.

A magnificent arrangement of one of Dylan's most beautiful love songs.
The rippling, shining notes are like a flood of precious jewels flowing over me.
Love Nickel Creek!

I agree. Though now, come to think of it, I wonder how it would have sounded sung by Chris :-)

That saiid, it's a very nice version.

I can see where you're coming from, but it would have been strange if Sara had left it the same and said *she*.

Why? Loads of singers have changed the sex in this song.
103northfields 2 years ago
I just like the original lyrics to remain unaltered. It's a foible of mine I suppose.
bellicosebumpkin 2 years ago
Geez, that's like saying this some and the feelings expressed in the lyrics are somehow inapplicable to women. :/
This things this song expresses aren't exclusive to men, so there's nothing wrong with swapping some pronouns to give it a female POV.
igonnamesswithyou 2 years ago
Well if she was saying "she" and "her" that would be sick and twisted.

This was originally a Bob Dylan song. I was kind of dissapointed when I found out.

Well, I was disappointed because I thought it was just a bit of genius from Nickel Creek, not Bob Dylan.
