Why don't I see anyone pointing out that if 99% of the vegetation on this planet was wiped out, we would have no oxygen to breathe? Much less an atmosphere to deflect harmful solar radiation. It took MILLIONS OF YEARS for oxygen and the atmosphere to be built up to the point where it could support complex organisms. There is absolutely no way humans would survive a mass extinction event.
