I had only just started when I was in 8th grade yet I have gone pretty far. one thing i noticed was ur stomach ur breating was short little breaths and one thing you can do is wen u take a big breath say how backwards like wah it will help alot trust me i play tuba and i play for pepband and their are alot of songs that u need to play loud and them big breaths inproved my sound so much and my sound is alot clearer and i am alot louder so if you do this brathing it should work.

If you just HAVE to tap, just tap your toes inside your shoes without it showing to the audience. Keep at it, you're doing well.

Tapping your foot while playing does keep the tempo, but you will have to breath more often, which isn't really good because tuba is the instrument that uses the most air. Also, if you want to hit the higher notes more easily, just like PanzerSteppenwolf said, you have to take deeper breaths. You need to use air SPEED, as well.

Though it does not look professional and , great example here, tempts him to ignore the piano rythm, notice him correct himself! and change to tapping on the off-beat!? ladies & Gentleman we have a non-functional tap!
