IMO music has to stay away from dressing code and "styles". You can play black metal and wear a tie or play jazz and look like a killer. It doesnt matter. I think its better when somebody is "himself" and "talks" just through his/her music, not appearance.

I used to listen to black metal (I actually own nemesis divina and rebel extravaganza) and i was always into music. I am sooooooo happy that the lipsticks and makeups and spikes all over the place are gone!!! Even when i used to be a fan I believed that the music was great (still do) and the concept was SHIT! Imo you can make black, extreme, sick call it however you want it music without playing halloween.
