you have to have to have quicktime pro to export the video. quicktime pro costs money if you did not realize. i thought you said you had a solution that was free?
you can do the same thing in imovie: go to imovie load the video clip as .mov then export it (share) go to share... then click on the quicktime logo then click on expert settings then press share. from then on its the same as wat this guy did in his video

does it matter if you have a sandisk or a sony memory card? I read somewhere that sony memory cards don't do video very well.

faulty cable maybe, are you using a usb that connects to the top or ino the yelloow socket on the bottom?
