My 2001 318 is 5 spd and its the off-road edition so it has 4.11 gears so it tows cars really good. Im sure when I get the long tube headers and 1.7 roller rockers it will be a beast!
i never had any issues with my 1999 dodge durango 318 magnum v8 stock 230hp at 300fbt with alittle ecm turning and ported mopor twin 52mm throtle body its has a stage 2 jasper trans i got clost to 300hp with 380 tq i seen a realy nice diffrents after the upgrands and it pulls fine with pleanty of power if you turn the the ecm and upgrade to throtle body and get rid of the stock 46mm you will see and feel a nice diffrents in power and towing believe it or now i started to get better gas mileage
i love manual trans because 1. you get more power and control. 2. less maintence and last longer. 3. better gas mileage than a auto. 4. funner to drive than a auto, 5. harder for someone to steal. 6. best for offroading or mudding.
Your right Terminator...lots of junky automatics around and, as you said in your video, manuals really are the ONLY thing to use when towing. Great video too in a beautiful part of the US.
Used a dodge 318 with torqueflite transmission to tow caravans and car trailers with no problems. Had lots of torque and those auto transmission are near indestructible. Is there anything a Mopar can't do better than GM or a Ford?
@mprmn340 Yeah, it's called "pulling". lol, just kidding. I like Dodge, but at the same time the auto transmissions are junk. The torqueflite was the only good one that I know of. But almost every Dodge owner I know has had terrible luck with the automatic transmissions. I like my Ford F-150, 5.4L alot better for towing the really heavy stuff. But there is no doubt in my mind that the 318 V8 is nothing less of impressive for how long it's been around. That motor is impossible to kill.
@TheTerminator310 I agree, my truck blew its automatic at around 70k. The replacement has lasted to 230k though, and the 318 engine has never had a single part break, and this is being driven 100 miles a day 5 days a week. Kills my wallet, but I'm not trading this truck any time soon.
@KeepItRoostin658 Apparent the new dodge auto trans are not the best, but the oldies..ie Torquflite, were fabulous and near indestructible. Pity that Dodge and Mopar isn't what it use to be :(
she did just fine my man, just fine. that ol' 318 pulled like a good old motherf'er. like I always said right, if its got the balls to make it up the hill, its got plenty of balls for me. no need to go fast, its just got to get to the top and she's good to go.
@WarWolfAngel001 Yeah, man! Got rid of the truck about 5 months ago. I seen it at a gas station last night. Got to talk to the guy that bought it. Asked him how it was doing. He said it's doing good and running great. Had to put a transmission in it, though. :/ But so far, so good.
@TheTerminator310 Dodge special whether auto or manual.... they always died. awww well the engine is still roaring though :D that's a awesome engine there.
@brandonsayholla Yeah, probably, since it's the bigger 360 Magnum. But, I'm not talking about an automatic truck is gutless in power, but the dependability is low. I'll take a manual anyday over automatic when I need to pull something.
@chromesphere It does alright. We ran 60 with it with not a big problem. If you're going up big hills it sometimes is a challenge, but no doubt it'll handle it.
lol wtf do you mean no sissy automatics... Just because you can push your clutch pedal in and independantly rev your engine doesn't make it a "manlier" truck. You also have to worry about burning out your clutch plate "if you can't drive". haha btw, you guys are the definition of RED-NECKS
@JU5TBL4ZE Redneck and proud of it, Bro'. :) As far as transmissions are concerned, didn't mean a manual was manlier than an automatic, it's just better built and more dependable. Hell, I have an F-150 with an automatic, lol. But no doubt that a manual will outlast an automatic anyday of the week if you know how to drive it.
@golfgti47 100,000 on the pickup body, but only matbe 80,000 on the engine. Engine was rebuilt after a small fuel fire and the first owner got so much money back from the insurance company he had the whole engine rebuilt. New pistons, rings, cams, springs, injectors, injector pump, ect, ect. The truck was gutless as all hell though, lol.
@TheTerminator310 manuals dont always last longer, it all depends on how you drive it. you couild maybe even get 500 thousand km/s on one clutch and engine if you are careful. autos, it just depends on how you drive it and service it. respect the truck, and the truck should give you no problems.
@DuBois994 No. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get around to doing it yet. But as soon as I can I'll get a video up. It is really nice for the mileage too.
my neighbor has a 1988 ford ranger, 4cyl with 310,000 miles. what is your dads new truck. ya the 2012 ford ranger is a crewcab but you only have a 5foot bed or less. i bet it will have a v8 in the new 2012 ranger because its supposed to be bigger. my 1994 ford ranger, 4.0 v6, 2wd, purple people eater is doing good with 136,000 miles. if we lived closer we could visit. we seem to get along great on the enternet so i figure we would make good freinds.
@DuBois994 My Dad got himself a nice 1994 Ford F-150, XLT, ext. cab, short box, 5.0L V8 for $1,800 with 226K miles. Looks brand new too. All service was done. It was a grandad owned truck. I love it too.
the 5.0 v8 is a good engine it is a 302 cui engine. am i wrong or is the 6.2 v8 only availible on the ford f-150 raptor or also the ford f-150 regular model. how has the ford ranger been i haven,t seen it in a while. get a k@n cold air intake. what do you think of the 2012 u.s. ford ranger also known as the wildtrack.
@DuBois994 Yes, the 6.2L is now available in the regular F-150 such as the Platinum, Lariat and King Ranch, I believe. And yeah, the '94 Ranger is well now at 250k miles. Hasn't been drove much lately. It's my Dad's. He got another truck, so he doesn't use the Ranger anymore. I think the 2012 Ranger is cool. I like how they made it a 4 door too.
that is amazing makes me think about going out and buying a 2011 ford f-150, 5.4 v8. for $30,000 or more my dad personally doesn,t see paying that much for a brand new vehicle and plus they depreciate in value right away. i see paying that much for a brand new vehicle. my dads been at boeing for 24 years. my neibhor payed $60,000 for a 2007 lifted chevy 2500 hd, 4x4, duramax. its is a beuty but the price is not nice.
@DuBois994 Yes, 60 grand is too much. By the way, the 5.4 Triton V8 is no longer available in the 2011 models. They only lasted up until 2010. Only option is 5.0L and 6.2L. But I have to say the 5.4L is a great motor. Lots of power and great MPG. Mine does 0-60 MPH in around 7.5 to 7.6 seconds. I only have an exhaust right now. More mods planned in the future. Programmer and cold air intake are the biggest ones.
is gulf shores alabama a beach that you can drive on. because i know wa beaches you can drive on. thats pretty good what truck of yours gets 21 mpg the 94 ranger or the dodge ram. if we lived closer we could ride my minibike. my dad has a 79 harley davidson its to big for me it weighs 600lbs.
@DuBois994 Naah, you can't drive on the beach. It's illgeal here. And the '94 Ranger, nor the Dodge Ram get 21 MPG. It's my 2007 F-150 with the 5.4L that gets 21. It sure is nice to have that mileage too. I dont have to hardly ever fuel up. My truck stays around 18 in the city too. It gets great mileage.
you should go to the ocean take a plane. i was born in raised in puyallup, wa so i am only like 2 hours away but unfourtently your like 7 hours away from the ocean.
@DuBois994 Yeah. I always love to go to Gulf Shores, Alabama. Such a nice ocean down there too. It's about a 5 hour drive from my house but it's sooo worth it. Plus my truck gets 21 MPG on the highway so I only have to fuel up like once maybe, haha.
ya my dad is going to sell his 88 f-150 for $3,000-$4,000. he just doesn,t need a truck around right now in life. i live in puyallup, wa where do you live. how is the 94 ranger doing. i am going to take my 94 ranger out to the ocean this week most likely ocean shores or westport.
how you doing freind. did that truck break a sweat or did it keep on truckin. my 1994 ford ranger 4.0 v6 would break something in the engine. my dad has a 1988 ford f-150, 4.9 liter straight 6, 5 speed manuel,
@DuBois994 It kept on trucking but was definitely breaking a sweat too, haha. That's cool your Dad has a '88 F-150 with the 300 straight 6. Those were great motors.
I have a 1998 4x4 318 auto in my owners man, the auto tranny can pull more than the standard truck. my camper is 6000 lbs and I have 288000 km (I'm in Canada) from what the converter sead its around 179000 miles and still Strong as hell
@marygott66 It may be "rated" to tow more, but it won't last as long as a standard under the same load. Automatics can last long but a standard can last over 400k no probs and worked to death with my experience. Automatics don't last for me more than 250,000 miles and then it's wore out. No doubt that if you're towing every day that the manual is the better transmission to use.
@TheCummins58 Dang, man, haha. I'm east of Birmingham. You're up near the Alabama/Tennessee line. Man I ain't been up that way in I don't know how long, haha.
I have a 94 5.2l v8 3 18 2500 and i could pull 2 tons of rocks up throw hills and i could do about 75 80 mph and i have nothing done on the truck but trailer brakes. and thats with 15k miles on it. And i had a 2500 3.60 and that broke down the first week i had it. If you were to ask me get the 3 18 it last forever.
@brandon13645 Oh yeah. The Magnum V8s are some of the most well built engines I've ever seen. Only problem is when you put a load behind all the Magnum''s I've seen they start sucking the bottom out of the tank, haha. But they are great engines. I won't lie. I love this '99. It's been through all kinds of hell, but it never quits.
@TheTerminator310 Yup i have pulled some have stuff with my truck. Best truck i have ever owned. gas is bad all the money goes right onto that tank. And i was not really was not looken for a pullen truck till i started with my dad pullen rock out of the mountians, never had to take it to the shop but to put brakes on it. its a danm good truck and will never sell it.
4.10 gears in the rear and that truck should pull that trailer with no problem my dads dakota with the 318 & 4 speed auto pulled a 8,000 pound camper from Kentucky to New Hampshire with no problem but he had the 4.10
@SuperDodgeram360 Yeah, this Dodge here is heavier than the Dakota too. This Dodge Ram's curb weight is 5,800 LBS and I'm not even kidding. That's what it said on the scale. This truck I believe has 3.55 gears and yes having 4.10 would help tremendously. I wish it had them.
@TheTerminator310 Ya that sounds about right for the trucks weight i think the dakota weighs about 3,600 it couldn't keep up with 2500 ram 360 pulling about 9,300
@SuperDodgeram360 Yeah, I've heard the 318 is nothing compared to the 360. I would like this truck to be the 360, but oh well, it's got a 318, haha. I'm happy with it though. It's dependable, so that's the main thing.
@kelly6580 Depends on gear ratio. You can take a Dodge Ram 360 with 3.55 gears and a Dodge Ram 318 with 4.10 gears and blow the 360 away. This Ram in the video is a 3.55 geared slug, lol, so it can't do exactly what I would like. I have a 3.73 geared Ford F-150 with the 5.4 Triton beast and I for power and MPG I love it much better than the Dodge. :)
@TheTerminator310 I have a 95 1500 with the 360 and posi 3.55 gears....have out pulled a cummins....pulled a 25 foot box trailer from georgia to NC with it hardly trying
@biglinc1 Haha, yeah. My Dad's planning to give this truck to me so I'm gonna fix it up, have it painted and have a new clutch and throwout bearing put in it cause its been making noise.
my dad drags a 3ft gooseneck with 20k lbs on it and hes had a 2007 dodge automatic and he put over 300k miles on it

If you were to ask me get the 3 18 it last forever.
brandon13645 11 months ago
@brandon13645 Oh yeah. The Magnum V8s are some of the most well built engines I've ever seen. Only problem is when you put a load behind all the Magnum''s I've seen they start sucking the bottom out of the tank, haha. But they are great engines. I won't lie. I love this '99. It's been through all kinds of hell, but it never quits.
TheTerminator310 11 months ago
@TheTerminator310 Yup i have pulled some have stuff with my truck. Best truck i have ever owned. gas is bad all the money goes right onto that tank. And i was not really was not looken for a pullen truck till i started with my dad pullen rock out of the mountians, never had to take it to the shop but to put brakes on it. its a danm good truck and will never sell it.

4.10 gears in the rear and that truck should pull that trailer with no problem my dads dakota with the 318 & 4 speed auto pulled a 8,000 pound camper from Kentucky to New Hampshire with no problem but he had the 4.10
SuperDodgeram360 1 year ago
@SuperDodgeram360 Yeah, this Dodge here is heavier than the Dakota too. This Dodge Ram's curb weight is 5,800 LBS and I'm not even kidding. That's what it said on the scale. This truck I believe has 3.55 gears and yes having 4.10 would help tremendously. I wish it had them.
TheTerminator310 1 year ago
@TheTerminator310 Ya that sounds about right for the trucks weight i think the dakota weighs about 3,600 it couldn't keep up with 2500 ram 360 pulling about 9,300
SuperDodgeram360 1 year ago
@SuperDodgeram360 Yeah, I've heard the 318 is nothing compared to the 360. I would like this truck to be the 360, but oh well, it's got a 318, haha. I'm happy with it though. It's dependable, so that's the main thing.

@TheTerminator310 my 318 can do everything my buddys 360 can do
kelly6580 11 months ago
@kelly6580 Depends on gear ratio. You can take a Dodge Ram 360 with 3.55 gears and a Dodge Ram 318 with 4.10 gears and blow the 360 away. This Ram in the video is a 3.55 geared slug, lol, so it can't do exactly what I would like. I have a 3.73 geared Ford F-150 with the 5.4 Triton beast and I for power and MPG I love it much better than the Dodge. :)

@TheTerminator310 I have a 95 1500 with the 360 and posi 3.55 gears....have out pulled a cummins....pulled a 25 foot box trailer from georgia to NC with it hardly trying
codbigredone2 11 months ago
@codbigredone2 Dang, that's prettty good, man. I wish this one had a 360 Magnum maybe then it could pull alot better, haha.

@biglinc1 Haha, yeah. My Dad's planning to give this truck to me so I'm gonna fix it up, have it painted and have a new clutch and throwout bearing put in it cause its been making noise.
