This film is so exquisite. How simply and subtly Dudley's powers are shown here, with the summoning hand of an angel disguised as ordinary choral cues. No magical special effects, other than Gregg Toland's remarkable lighting of Cary Grant's face so that it is luminous, irresistible and angelic.
This movie has become a Christmas tradition in our family; we never miss it, and this scene always makes me tear up. "Oh Word of God, for us incarnate !"
This is my all time favorite Christmas carol, but I've never heard it anywhere else. Do yourself a favor and listen. It never fails to give me chills!
I have been looking for this for 30 years. the sound these boys make is simply beautiful. Do anyone know the name of this song? I would love to hear this one sung more. It is just so beautiful.
I can't believe I found this -- thanks for posting it. I remember the first time I saw this movie. It completely charmed me, and this scene and song brought a bit of a tear to my eye. Best to you,
Thank you for posting this, it is one of my very favorite films. The music is by Charles Gounod, can anyone identify the title or how to buy the music? Cheers.
Every once in a while I just pop this movie in. It's so tender and gentle. Everyone in it gives a sensitive performance. It's kind. Sort of peaceful. I love the choir.
I cry everytime at the beauty of this song. I love the end of the song where are a few seconds of silence so that you can take in the solemnity of the words and music you just were enveloped in.
Thanks for posting. Scenes like this (and the ice skating scene) make The Bishop's Wife one of the best films of it's kind, one of the best films period.

We join with them in adoration,
We bore to Thee our supplication,
That Thou wouldst grant us Lord,
Salvation
