This happened to me today while driving. I have had them now for almost 10 years. I pulled over, went into a cafe and waited for it to pass. I took advil right away and did not have pain after it ended as I have in the past. The first time it happened I called 911. I thought I was dying. My neurologist says it can be triggered by food (you can google which ones) or hormones in females. He said it is totally benign. I feel sick after it passes and hate it. But I am grateful it is nothing serious.
this is the closest video to what i experience, i lose about 75% of my vision and it has lasted hours sometimes. The only thing i can do is go to the ER and get meds to make it go away. It's horrible, I had 5 of them in the month of december alone. I wish i could figure out what triggers them because they really have taken over my life. I feel for you guys that suffer these like i do, they're scary no matter how many times you've had them, you never get use to them.
I'm having one right now! When I first got this aura (Twelve years) I was soooo scared and I thought I'm gonna blind! But now I am happy because I saw a many eople has got the same problem.I hate aura >.<
@JerkWarlord If you do that I hope you get one, you will see then it's not b.s. or not a joke! But if it works to go home then cool! But this is not a joke, if you get one you will know it's scary as hell especially if you have no clue what is going on.
@onblock7 No I know it's not BS, I've had a migraine too, I just don't get aura. I figured it was easier to convince a school nurse I was getting a migraine if I describe aura and act like a dumbass who doesn't know what migraine aura is..in other words, I let her tell me.
*I called it "BS" meaning "stuff", really. Not legit BS. >_<
@JerkWarlord Oh okay, yeah it's no joke! I did not know what it was when I got it so when I tried to explain it to someone around me they looked dumbfounded and asked if it were a floater a few times, I said it's rainbow type zig zags lol! To someone who has not had it this is very hard to explain. Have a good day and hope you get no more of these in your life (I had my first sunday).
Mine looks sort of like the classic tv signal thing with the colour bars? When the signal is messed up? But flashing and moving, that's the only way I could try and explain it, But then there would be like Black shapes around it not moving...
and just recently this is preceded by 30-40 minutes of extreme dejavu. unlike typical dejavu where it will only last 3-4 seconds. i get thought after thought after thought and experience after experience that i have either dreamt or know what is about to happen, and each and every thought is built off the previous one. kind of a dejavu carousel. my eye doc gave me lorazepam and 800 mg ibuprofen, which when taken get rid of both for me in about an hour. so weird but im getting used to it!!
this is probably the closest thing i can find to what i experience when this happens to me... although its more white flashes than the rainbow colors you saw here. and the edges of my Aura are more jaged and most if the time only happen in one eye. sometimes it will happen in both. typically it will go away if i just lay down and close my eyes and relax... recently this "ocular migraine" (what my eye doctor calls it) last for about 20 minutes, and followed by more of a headache than a migraine.
Mine is thinner, and in two segments. Also, they go back and forth, in an agitating motion (like a washing machine). My vision is definitely blurred, to the point, that I have to angle my head certain ways, to read. I always get these in my right eye, so I have to focus on words, with my left eye. I've also noticed, that if I close my eyes, I can still see the shiny rainbow arcs. Mine are more brilliant, too (like a prism from a crystal). I think mine is caused by a pinched nerve???
