  • 0:44 Johnny Rotten eyes!

  • i think that guitar is a steinberger carbonfibre ugly but beautiful

  • Laslie West and Jeff beck: the two best tremolo dudes in the business.

  • what scale is that?

    amazing

  • imagine this shit. The best music that ever happened. Leslie, you made a big fucking impression on my life 20 years ago. Thank you!

  • imagine this shit. The best music that ever happened.

  • Can you imagine? Wrap your heads around this. Mike Bloomfield staying with us to play with Leslie. How sweet could that be?

  • oh beautiful

  • shit, they shoud relese thw whole concert on dvd

  • By the way, check out my channel folks, I recorded this video in a much higher quality for ya'll to enjoy.

Of course, we should thank Commando for his efforts tho, he was first.

  • I've never heard anyone get a better tone out of that Steinberger guitar than Leslie

  • one of the very best rock/blues tracks of ALL time. Juat so moving

  • this is pathetic...i can't hear anything. what do i need? a PA system? fuck sake!!

  • @1231238502 How about stop shopping at Walmart for headphones, that might be a good start numbnuts...

  • @depper haha

  • Leslie West... is the man of phrasing... listen to Mountain... He's God... literally invented this fat tone....

  • Had this on VHS until it was stolen. Great version! Saw Leslie perform this twice in concert but not with the tonal quality, beautiful licks and reverence of this night. You can tell he really put heart and soul into this performance. Thank you commando cody for posting this! Incidentally, met Leslie and Corky the 2nd time I saw them. Total characters. Miss seeing them live.

  • Loved this Night of the Guitars. I have it on VHS, but can you get it on CD or DVD?

  • @tandyfan2 The first time I heard this was on CD, when I was sixteen, living in Nurnburg, Germany. I had been plaring for about 4 years, and when I heard this, IT CHANGED MY WHOLE WAY OF PLAYING! My God! That was poetry of the soul.

  • Best licks and heart, In OKC I was able to see the greats together shortly before the loss. I've seen him at his best and his worst . Only the man inside can deal with his demons, and let the true self out again. Forty years plus of following, but this one still brings tears to my eyes. I do not play, but I know sound, it takes talent to play, and soul for sound. It takes both. He has found his "TwinPeaks" again, hopefully his peace. Watch and learn he did.

  • O.K. Cldfsn0200 put up a video of you playing so we can hear your tone....put up or shut up.

  • lovely use of the tremelo arm . Amazing tone on the guitar. What a sound. so perfect

  • i saw these guys 3 times and they where music for the ages.

  • Wow all this BS from Cldfsn200 who, on his site claims Take On Me by A-Ha is the best song of the 80's! FAIL

  • that fucker...he always had it and never lost it...go on show these kids today what you can do...Leslie West

  • I was in the audience.

  • wat's the name of this song?

  • "Theme for an imaginary western" originally composed and performed by Jack Bruce for his debut solo album: Songs for a Tailor -1969.

Leslie considers this the most beautiful among rock ballads

  • hi m8 the name of the song is theme from an imaginery western

  • He dedicated it to Felix Pappalardi, bass player and friend in the band Mountain. Shot and killed by his wife Gail Collins.

  • @suitcase4343 Gail also did all the artwork for Mountains albums and she co-wrote a lot of Felix's songs or he at least gave her creidt for writing them. But, as Leslie said "never give your wife a gun".

  • Give me the Blues..COYBB

  • I like the version on Twin Peaks best. Felix was on top of his game that night. at least you can still get that version. No one sang this song as good as he did.

  • i hear that

  • it catches my soul, nourishes it then releases it

  • emotionly speechless...

  • I saw Mountain play in Plymouth about 5 years ago, and it was one of the saddest gigs I've ever seen. They were playing to about 20 people but even then they were brilliant.

Leslie West is a special player.

  • I have seen Mountain perform a few shows like that. Most are sold out, yet Leslie prefers the local home town clubs because he can literally touch the fans. It also allows him to reach fans in the smaller towns, who would otherwise never get a chance to see/hear such a legend. Whether he plays to 25,000 fans or 20, Leslie stands out. He continues to bring the Blues and Hard Rock to Small Town USA, and continues to play whatever the fuck he wants to, and THAT's what makes him truly different.

  • I see too many gigs like that these days, i count myself lucky to see them at all. Ive seen leslie a few times. Hes brilliant and such a character.

    best wishes!

  • The great fatsby rocks! Saw him in portland or. 1n the 80's dressed all in leather xcept for a paisley vest in a tiny club.boy he can play!!! thanks for the video

  • the KING of TONE !!

  • You should hear the version of this Leslie did with Jack Bruce on the album Theme, awsome! Leslies tone is the ultimate, 'nuff said!

  • I was a young teenager as I buyed my first Mountain LPs - it was in the early 70ies. Mountain Live or Mountain at the Isle of Wight and so on were my favorit albums......now 30 years later I see Leslie West on You Tube - my goodness, we got old. But his sound is still soo great. Unfortunatelly he wasn`t very popular in Europe.

  • one of the best performance of all the time. Grazie Leslie

  • Does anyone know where I can find this video with better sound quality?

  • You need to FIND the CD... the morons at IRS discontinued the CD and the VHS years ago. That fact alone makes this the most coveted recorded rock tour in the last 30+ years. If you think this is good, you should here Leslie coming through your home stereo in digital quality... its the most beautiful guitar tone that was ever recorded in my opinion.

  • Wow. I am speechless............

  • I was speechless for months after i heard those 2 solos in this song... tried to get my guitar to sound like that for YEARS.. all i can say about my experiment... is there is only ONE Leslie West... and I'm glad I was given the chance to listen. One of the best examples of guitar tone you will EVER HEAR.

  • For absent friends.

  • speed does not equal best, its how you express your self in ways it moves so many people! and this is something! awesome i gota listen to this more, im already going to see him in massachusetts at the "bull run", and no there's no bulls lol.

  • This solo bring tears to my eyes!! Beautiful!! Leslie is the MAN!! He's not a speed demon, but he'll tear you down with just one note!! One of the greatest living guitarists without a doubt!!

  • Leslie says right at the end of the song... "I love you Felix, wherever the Hell you are."

  • Can anyone make out what he is saying just before the song ends? Maybe an ode to Felix?

I think his sound was a more soft on this song than usual, but it might be the guitar?

  • Sounds like he says "this song is for Felix, wherever the hell you are"

  • Anybody think Leslie sold a few Steinbergers that night? ;)

  • Thanks for adding this classic footage OP.

Inadvertently, it's perhaps the best example of the usage of the Steinberger Transtrem in existance :)

  • Oh Yes. HE'S A VERY BAD MAN!!

  • HES A BAD MAN!

  • Sadly this is VHS. The greatest example of guitar tone and vibrato maybe ever recorded in rock, and not ONE music company has seen the GREEN and reproduced this GEM on DVD. Originally an IRS release. DISCONTINUED :(

  • Just BEAUTIFUL vibrato! Leslie and Rory Gallagher are the greatest!

  • any one know where i can get this night of the guitar dvd ?

  • I'm in a band with my Dad. We even opened for Quiot Riot this summer. Just got back from gig in LA. My dad can name all the great guitar players but he always says Leslie is the man who can do and say more with one note than all these shreaders combined. I am starting to understand what he meant. It is funny though his other main guitarist was and is Alvin Lee. Go figure.

  • Haha! Kudos to your Dad! That's actually not hard to grasp. Lee was WAAAY ahead of his time - a frightening and rare combination of speed, accuracy AND taste. But West will always be King of the Mountain.

  • Leslie is a god on guitar...even after all these years. Thanks for the vid.

  • There is NO GREATER guitar tone. Leslie West has created the best TONE and VIBRATO the Rock & Roll world has EVER KNOWN.

  • Great solo!

  • Excellent lost this VHS years ago thanks

  • Thanks!!!!

  • Leslie=the man.
