my mate introduced me to this, as did a new girl at the time, the lad said, "they'll never do anything this good again." that's the awful truth. fucking superb song.
there was a time when music like this had a chance on BBC radio 1, the so called "in NEW music we trust station'. instead go through the filtration system of bbc introducing and if we that are lucky, we will hear it on 6 music. if we are that lucky ! good luck ! andy parfitt going, there might be more of a chance.
Man I love Ooberman - they've been sort of reincarnated now as "The Magic Theatre" - I think it's just Danny and Sophie - not sure. They played as Ooberman a couple of weeks ago in a tribute gig along with my mate's band Wolventrix. Apparently Sophie almost cried doing her poem bit on Shorley Wall. I'm bloody gutted I missed it, especially as I gather they all hung around singing together til 3 in the morning! Damit. I hope there's a next time...

@pandyand Indeed they did, twas a very special moment. The after party was awesome. One of the most underated and underrecognised band of the last 15 years.
I bought the original Shorley Wall EP on the strength of a Mark and Lard recommendation and am glad it's the first CD I ever bought. Still as beautiful as the day I bought it
the fact that this band never made it to the masses, just shows how blind the music press can be! only saw them once, at Leeds Cockpit and they were amazing, great tune!
Loved Ooberman! Got very very special memories with them & this especially. Got "The Magic Treehouse" album in 1999 & it's what i was listening to when my daughter was born. This was the first song she smiled to!!
HEY GUYS im willing to pay for this track but its not on Itunes.......anyone have the mp3 i can have.......reminds me of when i was bout hmmmmmm 13 lol i need it
@essexboi81 You probably have it by now, but for anyone else who's interested, all of their old material is available to download for free on their website (ooberman dot net). Just sign up for the mailing list and you can have this within minutes.
I think its about a girl who is sick of pressures of life, from parents, boyfriend etc and runs off to Shorley Wall to get away from it all. She's at the beach dispondent(?spelling)& Neptune calls her into the sea.So I think she drowns, finds peace or becomes something of a sea princess if you will!Legend has it they buried their Brat award there.Caught them in Brighton at the Point(1st album) & London(2nd).They were awesome in Brighton, spellbinding even, esp Danny.Such a shame they never made it.
discovered this song years after hearing it on mark and lards show. have now purchased 3 of their albums. the album which this track is from, The Magic Treehouse is just incredible. keep it up oobs. (even the kids love it)
Ooberman bring back memories of lovely John Peel ....Oh how he is missed...... he played some great songs... I bet Jo and Mark and Lard would all confess to hearing it on Johns programme first.......I remember when John Died and somebody said If God is a DJ he will be out of a job now... think they were right! Still cry at the end of this apparently Sophie the girl singer actually broke down in tears while reading the poem at the end....... Beautiful!!!!
there was some banter between the band & mark & lard about this. The feeling was it's about robin hoods bay. The band said there would be further clues in the next few songs. Not sure if that happened
probably one of my favourite songs, first heard it on jo whileys show. just rediscoverd the CD single in the loft. never saw the video for it though....
This is awesome. I had totally forgotten Ooberman but I heard an excellent version of this on Gid Coe's show on 6 Music last night. Thanks!
