I downloaded this application, and as much as I love the concept, I had to uninstall it. I am using the Acer a500 Tablet with Android Honeycomb, and for some reason the application was not assembling the video. Maybe I wasnt looking in the right place fort the file, but I would find the individual pictures created, and not the final product.
Floemuc, How did you mount your phone? I've been thinking about trying this out on my next flight and there seems to be the right apps available for the iPhone, but mounting is my dilemma....
I've finally managed to put the Android app used to make this video into the Market. Just search for "background timelapse" - it's free, and post a link if you make a video :-)

If your plane was flying at Mach 10, you would not be here to tell the tale. :) Mach 1 is the speed of sound, Mach 2 is twice the speed of sound, and so on. BUT the speed of sound varies greatly with temperature and air pressure. It does not map linearly to km/h. Unless you were flying in a supersonic jet (unlikely for such a short hop), the entirety of your flight was well below Mach 1. The fastest airplane in the world flies at Mach 9.6. The runner up (SR-71 Blackbird) only manages Mach 3.2.
@bityard as motion is relative, moving at Mach 10 in general has no effect on whether one lives or dies - unless you were *implying* the acceleration/deceleration required to achieve Mach 10 on a Frankfurt/Munich flight.
Possibly how they sped it up is what i am thinking commercial jet liners can do mach 1 i believe with some effort but they can. Scramjet can do mach 7 i believe
I like that movie!

by stealing extraterrestrial technology, they have already been able to make an aircraft go this fast..

A half an hour flight? that seams like a bit unnecessary. There is trains you know...
knapptor 2 years ago
You're absolutely right.. the pity is that in Germany, going by train costs something like 5 times as much as taking the flight.

Cool time-lapse! Thanks for sharing the clip.

Bityard, the video was 10x normal speed. Also the Blackbird can go much faster than Mach 3.2 - but the exact number is classified.

great vid! does the android phone already come with a function to make timelapse videos? or is it a custom app?
novolo 2 years ago
It's a custom app I wrote - will release source code maybe next week, once it's cleaned up a bit :-)

This is just great! I wonder if the flight crew had nothing against duck taping your phone to the window?

@bityard - As it is a time lapse, it appears to be roughly mach 10.

are you retarded? the real speed wasn't mach 10, the time lapse speed was that. that is, ... oh nevermind if you don't get it by now you never will.

way to take the fun out of it, nerdlinger

It would equate to Mach 10 if the trip were really this quick. Well done on the use of google !

haha a 2 minute flight would be awesome!

It's obvious from this video how short these domestic flights really are... I wonder if a ICE highspeed train ride wouldn't have been quicker ...
