  • when i was young i had 2 rats.similar to the ones in this vid.my friend had a snake...it didnt eat so i saved the rats.i had hamsters when i was a child.all my rats and hamsters lived real long.5 years....hamster lived 6.i had them out of the cage alot.not as many as this.i dont understand people who disturb food chains with snakes.i wont feed a living thing to another.i use worms for bait and sometimes small fish but i felt guilt so i use lures.minimize on tracks humans leave.

  • The rats won't chew up all those blankets? I put a towel in with mine once and within a day it was full of holes!

  • Where can I get a cage like that?

  • @tchanabc That is a Critter Nation made by Midwest. It is the best cage I have ever had for rats.

Where ever they sell Midwest products, they should be able to bring it in for you. I also know they sell it online at Petsmart online and allpetsfurniture online. If you are in Canada, Flower Town Chichillas is the best place to buy them online.

  • @jorats Thanks!

  • How many dumbos and how many fancys do you own?

  • i think theres too much ferd in this cage..ferd didnt look happy at all..he seems very poofy und realy dont know what to do at all...

  • @wegaify Ferd was ready for the move in. He was quite happy. All new rats are anxious when first moving into a cage of rats. My resident rats were all extremely gentle and welcomed him right away. We also did a week of intros before moving him in.

  • Is such a big cage difficult to clean?

  • @pinkygirl1999 Not at all... It takes me about an hour to completely scrub it down, I do this once a week. But everyday I wipe it down and clean up the soiled spot. Takes me about 5 minutes and I do this while the rats come out to play.

  • Hey there :D I love your videos soo much!! I was wondering it looks like they poop or pee in a specific place because it always looks clean and no poop, not just in this video but in most. I was wondering do you train your rats to go to the bathroom in a specific place. That would be very helpful because my three ratties love going all over the place

  • How many rats do you now have? :)

  • I love your rats so much! :)

  • I congratulate Ferd!

  • I love how u seem so dedicated to ur rats!:)x

  • May I adopt Ferd? Please? I have plenty of room in my Ferret Nation with my other three rats. I'll give him lots of love, promise. :)

  • Your rats must be the happiest rats in the world.

  • Whenever I try to introduce my new rat to my boys, the new one, who has always been very submissive in the past, is being very aggressive, so much that the others are afraid to even move. He's always very poofy and keeps sideling up to them and attacking them whenever they try to move. That was on the third day. On the first two, he was fine, the dominate rat showed him who was in charge and he calmed down. But now it's completely different. Should I still keep trying with the introductions?

  • @PsychoticTragedy How old are your boys and when you say "attack" what exactly does the new boy do?

  • @jorats The new boy just turned 1, the others are 1 1/2. He'll run over to them and hold them down and chase them around the bed squealing. I know the difference between wrestling and fighting, and this is definitely fighting. The others were too scared to even move, and one kept looking at me for help. He isn't really new, he's just been housed with another rat because in the past, the other two haven't gotten along well with other rats, but his cagemate now has cancer and open wound, so he...

  • @PsychoticTragedy I'm really sorry about your sick rat. Do you know what type of cancer? Sometimes it can take months before it actually gets to the point where the rat dies. I would do an intro with all 4 together. If you don't see the young one actually attacking, and cutting, biting, drawing blood, I would keep at it.

  • @jorats I have no idea what type of cancer it is. He had a huge tumor appear on his leg in less than a week (our vet said it would've been like a tumor the size of a basketball on a cats leg). We got it removed, and it came back. The vet wanted to remove the leg, but he said it was worth removing the tumor once more. And we ended up with the stitches either being pulled out, or just falling out, and his leg getting infected because the incision was wide open. He's still healing from that...

  • @jorats ...with antibiotics given twice a day. This all started end of May - start of June-ish, and his leg still ins't completely healed, so I don't want to put him with unfamiliar rats because he might get hurt. He's getting really sluggish and sleeping a lot too. The problem I seem to be having with introductions is I don't really have a place that the rats haven't been, so nothing's really neutral. I've tried to bathtub, but it scares them and all they ignore each other and try to get out.

  • @PsychoticTragedy Oh, I'm sorry about your boy. I had a rat who also had a sarcoma on the leg, we had the tumour removed twice and finally had the leg amputated. Ya, I wouldn't put your boy through intros either. He shouldn't have any stress right now.

The reason why the bathtub is ideal is because it scares the rats. You want them to be scared so they then bond to each other.

  • @jorats Really? I figured that since they were only focusing on getting out (which they manged to do) they wouldn't really get to know each other.

  • @jorats ...needs to be alone until it's healed. But with his cagemate, he's always been very submissive, and now that's not at all the case. I'd like to get them all in the same cage, because the one is so much bigger, and if the one fighting cancer doesn't make it, his cagemate can't be by himself, and I really can't get another rat right now.

  • Oh I also forgot to ask, where can I find a cage like that? I think I'd like a cage that opens from the front like that.

  • @BriannaDawnc it's a Critter Nation, I believe a few pet stores carry it or can order it. I ordered mine from Flower town Chinchillas since in my small city, there isn't any.

  • I'm getting ready to do an intro Pretty soon here now that my babies are 2 months old. I've been putting items from each of their cages into the others cage to let them kinda smell each other. I'm not to worried, they're all females and 2 of them are pretty younger.

What do you usually wait for before you move them in together? I know it can take a few intros, but what if the first intro goes over really smoothly? Do you normally still do a second intro?

  • @BriannaDawnc i'm not an expert in rat intros but i say do another one or two just to make sure it wasn't a one time thing. my rats sometimes will like someone one day and hate them the next. so just so none of them get hurt do a second one. also you can find cages like that at petsmart.

  • @BriannaDawnc I usually always do a week of intros. A few days on neutral, if all goes well, another few days on familiar ground and then the big move in.

  • Hi :) Your rats are lovely. I have little problem with mine, two boys (4 month). They don't like being stroked... Do you think they will, when they'll grow up ? Sorry for my english i'm french !

  • @x0pheey They need to be socialized more. Pick them up a lot and put them down your shirt or keep them with you for an hour at a time, several times a day. This will help them bond to you. Si tu veux, tu peux m'ecrire en francais, mais je vais continuer at te repondre en englais puisque c'est plus facile pour moi. :)

  • @jorats Thanks a lot for your advices :) My rats are very playful with me but they prefer run on the bed and the desk lol. When i try to keep them with me, they really want to escape ! I know they love me :P but they must be thinking that playing with each other is more entertaining. But i will try to keep them with me. I keep you posted (i hope that what i'm saying is right, because i try to improve my english) :)

  • Ferd looks to be a happy watty! n.n

  • Greetings :) May i ask how you set up/created such a beautiful home for your ratsies? :) It looks amazing!

  • @Oofling Hi, I've been at it since 2002, I've collected a few things, made a few things and am always on the look out for bargains.

  • Gosh I miss having rats! Thanks so much for uploading your lovelies!

  • When I die I want to come back as one of your rats! They look so happy and you understand them so well :)

I'm sad I didn't know rats should be in groups, I would have loved to have more and created a community dynamic. Maybe someday… when I have an apartment/house that allows pets.

Thanks for sharing these vids, very interesting! :)

  • Do you launder your rat linens in anything particular? ... and do you soak them before you wash them?

  • @bawaits I do a load of just rat linen, I use my detergent that is free of scent and good for those with allergies.

  • @jorats O.k... I do the same... I do soak them before I wash though.. I just wanted to ask the expert : )

  • fred i like that name and what is that little wood hanging thing

  • @liamO1999 His name is Ferdinand. I call him Ferd for short. :) The hanging wood is a bird toy, I've also got a few made out of cardboard. Rats love to chew.
