if you can't see any connection there just because they sound different, or don't know each other, that's also funny. manu chao was the first guy playing a fusion of punk & world music on big rock festival stages, which might have helped paving the way for bands like gogol bordello. and the music is "the same general ballpark", combining punk and folk - of course balkan folk sounds different from spanish folk, but you get the idea.
