lol, it's so 70:s and yet NOT! It's just very good muzic, rock, really special, saw them '78 live in Gothenburg and a couple of times in later years, so great with lasers and stuff!
(Opening act was J.Cougar at that time(Mellencamp later) Remember, at this time it was almost Science Fiction. They always been in frontline with their muzic and shows, always twistin their music in an unexpected direction..
I guess you had to be there. It was a lot better than it looks. Pretty good sound quality considering. Thanks for posting this.Brings back a very good time in my life. The BEST American rock band ever. Back in those days Aerosmith opened for BÖC. Enough said.
what a song and performance - I have watched it sometimes 3-4 times in a row and some times more after that on my phone in bed before falling asleep...
@antdigger Garage Inc. was an album Metallica did in the late 90s that covered songs from people who inspired them. They covered Astronomy - Blue Oyster Cult as well.
I've seen them 5 times in the past 6 1/2 yrs. If you have not seen them to bad...Look at there web site (Tour) Go and see them before it's to late...? It will never be like the old days...?
I'm one of the lucky ones who experienced rock in person back in the day. Rock and roll will never die because it's good. Nothing before it or since comes close. It's awesome to be able to see videos from back in the day on YouTube. Buck is the most underrated guitarist and BOC is the most underrated rock band. One of the few really good American bands since most are British and we fought those SOBs and won!
It would've just been nicer if they had dressed better lol, the one pieces always annoy me, like im rockin it out to dio and i tab back and look at ronnie in a white one piece with studded beads and shit and i always face palm a little inside.
Carl Sagan - "Our collective free time needs to shift as much as possible to education. Whether you're a young student or finished school long ago, get out to the library whenever you can and work hard to learn everything you can about this world. Each individual and society will benefit from being able to solve more problems and make better decisions. Education is an amazing discovery process that repays you endlessly."
I was born in 1960 so this is my music. But, my kids like this era of music as much as the new stuff. The richest era of music in history was the mid 50's to about 1980 except for the classical era of 1500-1700 :). BOC kicks it. Would love to be young again just catching the great live performances of the 70's era bands. - Wow.
stunning song, although at their live shows it used to piss me off a bit when buck or eric used to ask the audience ' you have a choice, do you guys want to hear this, or Veteran'. play them both dammit and stop talking, you could easily fit another song in there! lol. seriously, one of the best ever live bands...
My uncle who is an avid music listener says the BOC are a joke band, says they were shit and noone liked them back in the day. I dont know what the hells his problem, they are incredible.

@Roran109 Just discovered them while looking in my Dads old CD collection, Some CD called "Dark as Metal" (Dont remeber), And I saw my favourite band Deep purple there with Fireball so I started to listen. THEN Blue Öyster Cult played the song - The reaper, and omg such ear orgasm. NEVER FELT ANYTHING LIKE IT!
I've seen THE REAL CULT about seven times, I just loved it when the Harley Davidson would come roaring out onto the stage. We used to say are you going to catch the Cult show tonight, back in the 70's, and everyone would know that meant Blue Oyster CULT. Still rockin' and rollin' in the new millennium.
Buck's guitar parts are amazing. The solos before and after the breakdown are out of this world. Not even my idol Kirk Hammett could have written better solos for this song even if given an eternity.
The original version is a great song, just the song itself, covered by anyone, is a great song. BOC done a very good job at creating a good song. Metallica, they have always had an eerie aura about covering songs. They take a song and make it theirs, if it's good or bad, up to you. Metallica's version is excellent, the guitar has the power, and the vocals are perfect. As for me, Metallica's version is the better one,but the credit goes to the creators,BOC,for making the song in the first place.
