Good interpretation, but it seems feeble and brittle, like it could fall apart any moment because it's faster than the tempo that it is normally portrayed
@dalboy65 The version played here is being played from a new-ish urtext published by Bärenreiter based on research done by Jonathan Del Mar, who based the tempi on what Beethoven probably intended. You can search the Bärenreiter site for more info on this edition.
Exactly as you did I've noticed this music at first in Zardos and I just loved it from the beginning. Its a great version here ...I like Scarlett too, of course BUT I cant find sense in this slide-show connected with Beethovens Alegretto (actually I don't like to see slide-shows when I just want to hear great music - my problem)
@81506860 nah, there is no Beethoven film material, so combine the beautiful things for the ear with something nice for eye and mind. to get the best out of music with no motionpicture aviable:)
Gilberto Braga, a great brazilian soap opera writer, have written some stories that have this symphony - in the end, as a soundtrack for a murder! ["Insensato Coração" [2011], for instance, an amazing thriller!]
I had always loved this piece of music but hadn't known the composer until relatively recently. Added a great deal more admiration for Beethoven's wonderful talents.
She is indeed very beautiful and has something exotic about her. Looks well both black haired and blonde. Only the background music, though excellent is a bit tragic :O The photo at 06:30 is fantastic, well all of them :-)
Thanks for posting this. Great version and the pics of Johanson are fantastic counterpoint to the music. Something about her...definitely captivating on many levels...
I listened to Furtwangler's 1953 recording with Berlin the other day and there's such melancholy that reminds me of the stories my mom told me about what it was like in Germany during and after the War - the sense of devastation and destruction all around, of such loss on so many levels for so many. He and the Berliners nailed it
The 7th 2nd movement is the main score to "The Long Night" starring Henry Fonda and Vincent Price, 1947, film noir. Its use is phenominally incorporated into the excellent story. Just an amazingly photographed, acted and moving flim.
And isn't it in "Immortal Beloved" the Gary Oldman masterpiece on Beethoven?
This works _so_ well with the slides of Scarlett Johansson, tempo is faster than tradition, but tempo is the baliwick of the performer. This is such a great music of triumph over adversity.. I'm surprised it has not been used more.
It has more complexity IMO than the early Italians, but in doing so, it must also come second in absolute terms of emotion. Again, IMO, not meant as any slight or critique to either camp. I can listen to this for another 30 years and still not tire of it.
everyone plays this too clinically. it's too fast and too pointless.
such a beautiful piece. I wish conductors would LISTEN to the piece instead of just the writing on the sheet music. too many people end up so classiclly trained that they become sterile. can't listen to a composers soul but only the exact amount of notes in a bar.
I dislike intensely the way the conductor wrapped up the movement in a sudden collapse. . It's an ugly amputation. Not even seeing shots of the infinitely gorgeous Scarlett could make this truncation less jarring.
heheheheheh look at all the "dislikes"..... i would love to ask those ppl what was it? the music? the photos? the combination of the two? or the fact that their life sucks and they like dispensing grief and agro left right and centre??? mu-ahahahahahah :-P
