This Movie is Truly one of my favorites <333 . this movie was phenomenal , brilliant , incredible , outstanding and , remarkable !!!! I enjoy watching this movie everytime and everytime at the ending of the movie it just me dissolve in tears . But in a good way :D &&. i also play the violin ;D .
Never thought I'd see that on a drama starring Meryl Streep. I'm glad he was given the opportunity to do this film and it paid off. Streep earned a nomination and Craven proved he could do more than just horror.
This is one of my favorite films. I remember the Save the Music campaign where the city wanted to remove all musical related programs. I wanna join the fight
In the movie Naeem's mother wanted to take her son out of the violin program claiming there were no Black composers:
There was a French composer Chevalier de Saint-George born 1745 to French plantation owner & Black slave. His father took him to France to become a French gentlemen. A violin virtuoso and one of the best composers of his day alongside with Hayden & Mozart.
An American piano virtuoso Scott Joplin had Classical training and wrote 2 operas and many Ragtime pieces.
Very much like the famous music program El Sistema in Venezuela with conductor Gustavo Dudamel where children from the slumps were given free instruments to keep them out of trouble.
Compared to the Oscar-winning "Mr. Holland Opus" which was overly dramatized and gave TOO high regards to a teacher of a music appreciation class. Richard Dreyfuss was a good actor though.
After watching Meryl in the Mama Mia Musical, got the impression she does know how to play the violin or was it a voice-over?
Believe it or not, it's actually a homework assignment of mine to watch this movie and answer questions about it. I had never even heard of it until I got this assigment. I love Meryl Streep and Cloris Leachman. This is going to be an easy A!
aww thank you for posting Wes Craven did really well with this movie and this is far from his usual genres he should make more dramas. I saw this when I played Violin in high school. My heart lies with the piano.. :)
it made me want to play violin too! but i grew up in a neighborhood in NYC just like the one in the movie, and they didnt have money for instruments,...but thank God, im learning how to play it now...even though im 19 XD
Such an underrated performance from Streep. The film is not deep, but its passionate and inspiring. And she's so amazing in her dialogue and there's a flat tone to her voice suggesting a lack of education. Brilliant- her 12th Oscar nomination, for Best Actress 1999.
it really plays meryl ? shes so handy !! violent is hard
