cocker ,the legend, was about to embark his rock star years, which nearly killed him and made many of these muscians stars also, he put out so much energy in 2 months of mad dog tour that it nearlly cost him his life
Note that although this is the band that toured with Joe on "Mad Dogs and Englishmen", there's no crowd noise as on the album cut; from my best info, this was recorded in rehearsal and rush-released.
Among the backup singers was a young Rita Coolidge, who had some chart success as a solo artist with "All Time High" and a cover of Jackie Wilson's "Higher And Higher". Hmm, I'm sensing a pattern here...
