honestly Square Enix should ditch the MMO genre and just give us a good console/pc rpg. what we want is a good story, an ingenius and expansive levelling system, and a n overworld filled with side-quests and backstory. please, no more mmo's or linear gameplay that focus on story alone.

@advancedpillow yeah, Square-Enix is trying to keep it under covers, They really don't want news of it to get out for some reason, It's super hard to find information about it. From what I heard on a forum it will most likely not be an MMO. I think they have learned their lesson with the MMO thing and I think that they won't be doing any more Final Fantasy games in the MMO style... I hope...

of the NES Final Fantasy's, or rather Famicom ones, I think 2 is my favorite, 5 is my favorite SNES FF, 9 is my favorite PS1, and I believe 12 is my favorite "modern" FF (PS2 to current) out of all of them, its a coin flip between 5 and 9 for my favorite overall

@AlexLong1000 11 takes a bit of getting used to, as it was crafted ala World of Warcraft. This one is actually somewhat realistic. You get better by what stragedy you employ during battles, making it realistic, even if some say it's broken. I'm not a fan of the one with Lightining though(13 I believe), as that was a major letdown.. But I agree with eleven and fourteen though. Ashame no new Chrono game though :/

@HellsGladiator I liked 13 for the story, the battle system was also pretty good, but the linearity was disappointing. No towns?? But yeah, I see why you don't like it.

I would love the levelling system in this if you didn't have to grind. But you do. Any game that forces you to attack your own team-mates (which I had to do multiple times to grind for HP) isn't that "realistic".

The Idea = Excellent

The Execution = Poor

Obviously an emulator. But that is one awesome emulator version. I still see people trying to sell Final Fantasy II on NES in America. One guy even scratched off part of the label and wrote "2" on the cartridge. Yep, people fell for it. Thanks for the walkthrough. I think I'm halfway through this game right now.

Can someone please tell me why the character portraits on my rom file always have black square backgrounds?

I mean in HCBailly's rom in this video their backgrounds are blue just like the rest of the menu, but for me it is always black behind the characters?

@nooxet I played the PSP version and it is very hard! I would say it's unbalanced and unfair! Flawed more like it. But it's good! It got lots of average to bad critic scores.  I can understand why they scored it so low, but for me, I found the difficulty of the game challenging and fun! FF2 is a rare one.

The one thing about the remake that I always found weird is how it goes from almost ps2 looking opening to old time graphics, I don't know the jump just seems so sudden. I've played some of this game it was hard though I didn't get very far.... so i'm enjoying watching this lp. :)

i had enough gil to bye a pretty powerful weapon i manged to get back to the first castel by the time i got back i had grinded my levels so much i could one shot almost all the bosses in the beginning...good times.

After playing all the NES Final Fantasy games (and watching HCBailly's LPs, of course), it's interesting to see the progressing in the games' style graphics-wise. You can definitely see some of the influence carried over in tiles and sprites from the first game, even though it's pretty obvious they did a major overhaul for this game. Also, in FF3, you can see where they kept a lot of the same tiles and sprites, or even improved on them.
