The point is that many sodas are corrosive to your body over long periods of time, so you should drink responsibly, not not at all. The stomach lining protects it from hydrochloric acid, not phosphoric acid. Drink enough soda regularly (especially coke and similar sodas) and your stomach lining wears away until the hydrochloric acid comes in contact with your actual stomach. If you can digest meat you can digest yourself too
