Penderecki isn't necessarily scary music, sort of limited, thinking that way. This could easily accompany some inventive nature video or an abstract animation, or even an old-school martial arts demonstration by monks (not that flashy TV stuff). People's first reaction to dissonant music is to say it's horror movie music, and I suppose it's great for that too, but there's other uses. Just sayin

@athb4hu i think the appeal has something to do with being so clearly out of the realm of bullshit, and back in rhythms the mind recognizes from primordial memory or types of intense experiences and contemplations. i'm reminded of the first section of 2001 space odyssey for instance, the push and pull and random tension of early social interactions, face to face with your species without a real way to verify what anyone is going to do next, could be violent, could be more of the same tension.
