  • HA! What a hysterical interview. That guy had absolutely no idea how to handle Spiner's sense of humor.

Of course, he also had some amazingly stupid questions for him.

  • Spiner has the best sense of humor. Too bad there are so many people who don't get it -interviewers who don't realize that sarcasm is meant to be funny, people who call Brent a jerk in YouTube comments... The whole big ego thing is a joke, people. He's actually a really nice guy to his fans.

  • Wow, I think I found a new role model.

  • This guy must have been the inspiration for Sheldon from Big Bang Theory. Brent Spiner rocks and has fun with it while the clueless interviewer (lets just call him Sheldon) is completely unawares... It's like he has no concept of sarcasm...

  • Actually in Season 2, he gets called Data with the erronous pronounciation by Dr. Pulaski. Data corrects her saying something along the lines "Data (with the correct pronounciation) is my name, the other is not. Dr. Pulaski then comments with something like "if I didn't know better I'd say your emotions were hurt"...

  • LOL Brent was hilarious.

  • Brent Spiner is a fucking asshole.

  • @Dreg555 Why? Because he is annoyed by this absolutely incompetent, unprepared interviewer?

  • @Ganymed27 This interviewer is absolutely no different from anyone else who interviews Spiner; there was no need for Spiner to be such a jerk.

  • @cynthiacher I hope not because this would give a very bad name to journalism. First he can't even pronounce the name of the person he is interviewing. Then he asks him how to pronounce the name of the character he is most famous for. How ignorant is that? It is insulting actually. Then he asks him to talk about "the Star Trek movies". What kind of question is this? He was completely incompetent. Other actors might have just walked away.

  • @Ganymed27 Big deal. The guy seems inexperienced somewhat, but that's no crime. Other celebrities would have handled this differently; there was no need for Spiner to be so nasty.

  • Comment removed

  • @cynthiacher Whatever. The guy wasn't too polite either telling Brent that he was being difficult when he answered his question about Independence Day. What goes around comes around. Even if you are completely clueless you should know how to prepare for an interview and to learn the person's name who you are going to inteview. It actually might help.

  • Boy he's so not interested in this 'interviewer'. Don't blame him because that was the most wasted opportunity. I got Brent's wit on this but I really don't think this idiot has a clue what wit is. Brent really is taking the 'p' and lost interest very quickly, but no way Head is better than A Hard Days Night Brent!

  • this interviewer is stupid

  • One is my name. The other is not.

  • I love Brent... He always gets the dumb interviewers who don't understand his wit and ask pointless questions . He rises above and makes them look dumb.

  • I think Brent's sense of humor was lost on the interviewer, but I thought it was very funny, would love to see him in a recurring role on any new television series

  • OH MY DEAR LORD!!! Who could send this... interviewer (kids are watching) to talk with such an ironic and witty beast like Brent Spiner. That's not an interview, that's a career and social suiside.

  • Oh my, what a terrible interviewer! He doesn’t even catching any of the irony or sarcasm! Geez, poor Brent!

  • @267198ed Some people don't appreciate Spiner's snotty, arrogant brand of humor. Poor interviewer!

  • really bad questions... and the guy doesn't realize...

  • He joking and trying to bring some fun into the interview. Stops being jerks and don't EVER let me hear you call Brent a douche again. This guy is my hero.

  • He's joking and trying to bring some fun into the interview. Stop beings jerks and NEVER let me hear you call Brent a douche again.

  • This interviewer SUCKKSSSS. You can tell Spiner is trying not to laugh because he's so socially awkward.

  • @jdeppluver1599 The reviewer is just asking the same type of questions that Spiner always gets asks. Spiner, for his part, act like a douchebag.

  • lol what a douche

  • @BROOL23 Yeah, Spiner is a douche alright.

  • THE BEST

  • Hahaha, this dude is hilarious! Hahahahah xDDD Awwweeeesome!!!!

  • "There is not one character who ever called me anything other than Day-ta." Untrue! The doctor (the one before Crusher) calls him Dah-ta, and he CORRECTS her:

    "Day-ta."

    "What?"

    "You called me Dah-ta."

    "What's the difference?"

"One is my name. The other is not."

  • Okay I’m going to try to not make my comment as mean as it originally was. But….. REALLY? How could the interviewer not understand that Brent was joking? I guess that's what makes this interview gold though... It’s like an inside joke between Brent and everyone else watching the interview. I'm totally adding this to my favorites!

  • This is a wierd interview, wtf is going on, no respect for ufrag I guess

  • As great as he is, I couldnt bring myself to watch Enterprise even though he was guest starring

  • @rmathew2 Enterprise rocked and your a faggot for thinking otherwise.

  • @DrHerccoel Are you crazy? It was fucking terrible, Scott Bakula was fucking terrible and should shoot himself. The only thing good about that show was Jolene, and the doctor guy, the rest of them sucked.

  • LOL I didn't care for any of it. I try to avoid them.

  • That interviewer is a bro for standing there and taking all of that without getting flustered.

  • The real life version of Trollface.

  • Oh man, that interviewer got trolled so hard, I have a newfound respect for Brent

    "There are children watching"

  • Spiner is a master troll. I love him.

  • i love brent forever

  • WHY does brent always get interviewed by the lamest people?

  • @FriendsofXan It's more like a decent interviewer that got caught off guard by his attitude and personality and it threw him off for the rest of the interview which made him forget his material.

  • hahahahaha "it was exactly like eating with Worf because he was one of them"

  • Rookie interviewer I suppose, could have asked more inquisitive questions, but its a start to learn from experience. These are the kind of questions he gets all the time from fans, so I am sure it gets boring, but Mr.Spiner does well in spicing up the interview for the interviewer and even tries to teach him a few things XD.

  • @yayoineko I've done a few hundred interviews, most of them quite good. The problem here is that he caught me by surprise with his off camera personality and playfulness and that threw me off which is my fault. So the rest of the interview he toyed with me as I played catch up. But you also have to understand that the same boring questions that he gets are my job to ask.

  • @SpanWolf Bless your heart, if you had been prepared, you would've had a great time with him. Brent's got a very dry and extremely offbeat personality, but trust me, he's not the jerk that a lot of people make him out to be. He was probably just having fun with you in his own way.

  • Thanks for all the support guys, this interview was death for me. See I wasn't expecting his personality since I'd never met him before and it threw off my entire groove making me be off hilter and awkward for the entire interview. If I ever get an opportunity, I'll be better prepared with questions as well as knowing what to expect from his personality. I'll try to be a bit more entertaining for him.

  • @SpanWolf Are you the interviewer in this video? If so, don't think it was YOU that was the problem. And why should you be "more entertaining" for him? It's not your job to be entertaining to Brent Spiner. All you did was ask him standard questions that he gets asked a lot and he was unnecessarily unpleasant. He could have been gracious, but he chose not to be. I've heard he behaves this way not infrequently.

  • @cynthiacher Yes I was the interviewer, well you see it is my job to make the interview work. If it is a hard person to interviewer I have to engage him even if he's been a jerk or difficult, I have to find a way to break through to do a good and entertaining interview for everyone.

  • @SpanWolf You did fine. Spiner was the one who screwed up. He's a strange one. And you're going to run into more of that type; there are some people who are just going to behave badly no matter what you do to make the interview go well. So don't blame yourself. I thought you conducted yourself very well in this interview.

  • @cynthiacher Well John Billingsly was just as weird fondling my chest and strangling me throughout the interview, but we played off each other and had a great and entertaining interview.

  • look at him. 61 ... *rrr* and he´s still hot...

    just love his humor!

    Brent, you really rock!

  • Brent must have forgotten about Diana Muldaur mising up his character's name at one pint, calling him both "Dah-tah" and "Day-tuh".

  • "One is my name. The other is not."

  • it's obvious by the body language in this that brent isn't being "blatently hostile" in this.brent is actually in a good mood in this.the interviewer should know that brent "isn't much stronger than him."(that's a joke.brent spiner's a self described "wuss").also,i just listened to the audio part of this for a long while and i realize that brent sounds X ACTLY the same as brent did YRS ago.but when i look at the video,i realize i'm influenced by the way brent LOOKS now.

  • Did the interviewer understand Brents sarcasm? XD

  • @TheDrowWarrior1

"You know, I didn't care for any of it, to be honest with you..." lol wow... I'm sure the interviewer might have picked up on it, but he was too nervous and probably not witty enough to keep up with Spiner.

  • @Nexus52085 Spiner is "witty" here? I think he's just being rude and sarcastic.

  • omg.... he is sooo kidding whit the iterveiwer!!!!

  • Yeah, poor kid was in over his head on this shoot.Brent just danced about and tossed him like a rag doll! But the interview went ok in the end. Not convinced Brent was serious about not caring for Star Trek, though.

  • Brent played the best "Android Icon" in SCI-Fi history!

  • LOL, poor interviewer:-s He tries, but it's not good enough for Brent. I can imagine becoming a little sarcastic towards interviewers if i would always get the same cliche questions, but on the other hand it's something to deal with;)

Despite what others say about him, I think Brent is still very SEXY!

  • Check out an inquisitive "Data" at 1:27!

  • In all of the interviews I've ever seen, Brent always plays a smart-alec, is over-confident, and tries hard to be amusing. I happen to totally dig his humor. I guess, not everybody recognizes it for what it is.

  • @fortes00 He "always plays a smart-alec, is over-confident, and tries hard to be amusing?" That sounds very annoying.

  • This interview is hilarious! FYI, at least a couple of other ST stars like to tell tall tales while giving interviews... Brent seems to be very particular about details and catches the interviewer's mistakes. He mocks himself, Will Smith, and the ST cast. It's so obvious, by his devilish smug smile.

  • In one of his official TNG interviews, Brent said that he's more like Lore. I guess people expect to see a super nice guy who is a bit like Data.

  • Wow. This is one of the most unpleasant interviews I've ever seen. Granted the interviewer was asking trivial, silly questions but then what did Brent Spiner expect? He's been through it all a million times before; did he REALLY have to be so nasty? Even the interviewer comments at the end about the very "catty" inteview. Spiner looked a little surprised at that, but I think he was just pretending to be startled. I think he knew all the time that he was being purposely rotten.

  • Uhm...no! We don't consider him "sexy". We consider him "INCREDIBLY SEXY"!!!

  • Brent is known for his pranks. Acting that way was obvious just a prank for him.

  • LMAO! Brent's a funny guy.

  • I love Spiner but why be a prick to the interviewer...yeah he gets asked the same questions all the time but geez what did the interviewer do to him to deserve that...You know how many people would give anything to be fortunate enough to be apart of a show like that and have financial security in these tough times...so what if you're getting asked the same questions over and over, quit being such a bitch about it...GEEZ...definitely lost a little respect for Spiner after this...

  • Is Brent having fun or what? ROFL If the reporter didn't know A BIT about Star Trek, this interview would be completely misleading!

  • The interviewer was just asking the same questions Brent Spiner always gets asked. I have no idea why Spiner was so blatantly hostile. I don't think the interviewer deserved to be treated so badly.

  • I don't really see how he was treated "badly" I mean he is sarcastic, a lot of people don't like that, but I don't really think he was being hostile at all.

  • weird interview

  • I feel kind of sorry for Brent Spiner. He keeps getting asked the same questions over and over and over and over...

  • "holding back his emotions"

    reporter confuses him with spock?

  • I think the interviewer meant Brent's holding back his own emotions from showing through Data's character; i.e., what was that challenge like & how he managed to successfully portray a role like that for so long, etc. The way Brent kept continually dodging the questions and playing dumb in spots (not exactly prone to elaboration, is he?), it's understandable why the reporter got a bit rattled.

  • Comment removed

  • "Holding back his emotions" while acting.

  • kinda got the feeling that the reporters questions weren't that well thought out at all, no wonder Brent wanted to mess with him a little lol

  • Maybe *You* should've interviewed him, then! :P What questions would you have asked?

  • what can we expect to see him doing in the future? who did he think was the hottest between Diana Troi and Beverly Crusher? can i have his autograph? who would win in a fight between Data and the Terminator?.... the usual :)

  • He does that with his lips, cause he's sexy and he knows it.

  • He's a haggard-looking, grey-haired 61 year old. NOT sexy.

  • Most comment here on youtube about Brent say he's sexy. We live in a Democracy, so the majority wins.

Brent Spiner is a sexy guy.

  • what does he do with his lips?^^

i´m sure the reporter cryed himself into sleep after that *lol*

  • He's the sex

I love that thing he does with his lips. does anyone else notice that? lol

    And he's very silly lol

  • Its so obvious that he is being sarcastic

    but i was laughing.

the reporter seemed pushy and a little to serious

go brent. you looked good on the big screen. lol

  • Wow he's a little crabby! *thwack *LOL

  • Ouch... x_x I feel a bit bad for that interviewer... ^_^

Perhaps Brent was just in a "don't talk to me today or I'll get you" mood. :)

  • he looks so damn fine...mmm... and he talks about his son *YAY*

  • Uh-huh, yeah sure, Brent - not one laugh in seven years. ^_^

*Sigh*... so much to say, so little char count.

    "THWACK!" XD

  • Likewise when he says, "In the 178 episodes we did, and four feature films, there was not one character who ever called me anything other than Data..." Yeahhh riiiiiight, Brent! :P I think he was testing the interviewer, to see how familiar he was with the series. To the guy's credit, though, I thought he was considerably more knowledgeable and better prepared than Letterman (1996 interview). Can't help but feel sorry for him. Next time he'll know to bring his B.S. meter!

  • actually doctor Pulasky once called him "data" incorrectly

  • That's what I said -- what Brent was referring to, most likely.. She mispronounced it ("Dă' - tuh") to where it wasn't his name at all, like as if to infer he was just a walking storage repository of information without any personality. It's hard to reflect that in writing without using phonetic characters -- hope this clarifies it.

  • There's too many people hamming it up in the background, grrrr.

  • My favourite part is when Brent is doing Data and the reporter doesn't even get it.

  • yeah! silly bunny

  • @miadry25 thats so good! :D I love it!

  • "THWACK" lol

  • Error!

    K. Pulaski pronounced Data's name wrong once.

60 years old and so dementic.

  • ROFL

  • oh man, spiner is f n AWESOME!!!!

  • Brent is very funny here because he prevaricates continuously, while the interviewer is determined to play it straight. Very funny man, sharp & quick.

  • *lol* oh my ... brent ist sooo cool. He´s so damn funny. And he looks cute^^
