@pplife yea I figured that out too. One of my favorite scenes that stuck in my head for years. You did mean malcolm x and not west. As soon as I heard kanye I thought "biter!" Not even the police chief Had that much Respect.
for those wondering if Kanye West's Power was inspired by this scene, I personally think so. To confirm that it was indeed that scene that inspired Kanye, on another song, ‘Gorgeous’, Kanye said something like ‘Malcolm West had the whole nation standing at attention’, which is also a reference to the very same scene. Coincidence? Highly unlikely. Hope I could help.
them glasses made him look even more authoritative, lol...this was when the NOI actually did stuff, now they just stand on the corner passing out 'the Final Call' and sell bean pies
This scene every time I view it I get a proud surge, a surge of dignity. If the masses of black men had the testicle fortitude and morale compass that these men did, I sincerely believe we would be in a better position.
@davisismail1comcast There were some read a book called "DEACONS FOR DEFENSE" the author is Lance Hill and theycame under the influence of a another black man named ROBERT F.WILLIAMS read "RADIO FREE DIXIE" by Timothy Tyson
Now thats a true leader. I wish more black man will stand up and declare their true place. If one man can do that just imagine what could happen if all black man realized the truth.

@dirtysanchez001 , no its not complete, and i wana see complete and wana download the movie in my system, then can tell me any site or any torrent link,
Example, i call you "nigger", you call me cracker. You hear 30 white people on the internet call you a nigger, soon all white people are crackers, and vice versa. And really that's just human nature.
I was reading some of these comments on this page, and i just realized where modern day racism is formed, it is formed through insult. When someone is offended, the natural instinct is to seek revenge on the person. But this insult becomes belief, all racism today is based upon petty revenge. Which would mean all racism is simply a fallacy of hate that has been taken to a new level.
This is the most racist movie i have ever seen in my life. It apotheosizes white hate, and just creates more division between races. The Nation of Islam is a group of hate and racism, and i feel are just as bad as the KKK and neo-nazi groups. Malcolm X was an evil biggot most of his life, it was only in the end he found light. Hate and racism bring nothing to this world, they only destroy peoples lives. Men like MLK and Gandhi should admired, not Malcolm X.
First of all....I nor anyone of African descent has every been nor shall we ever be a "housenigger".
Second, you've got it backward. Malcolm saw what King was able to accomplish from not excluding other races in aiding our own and changed his mind on the subject when he began allowing outside help.Malcolm also wen't as far as apologizing for calling caucasians "white devils" & for other poor treatment.
@Cybil017 The main factor that changed his mind was his experience in Mecca, where white muslims treated him like a brother. Race wasn't even an issue there and he realized how wrong he'd been to preach against whites, although I think that also caused him to take a different attitude towards MLK Jr. as well.
@harveysuperboy No, MLK Jr. began to question the economics of capitalism (he was supporting a sanitation workers' strike when he was shot). He did not move in the direction of the Nation of Islam with its anti-white politics. Malcolm X embraced MLK Jr. as an equal fighting for the same goal, although in a different way, before they assassinated. Malcolm X also began to question capitalism as well.
I never said he was moving in the direction of the NOI. I was talking about King wonding was it the right thing to have racial intergration with whites. He said that to Harry Belafonte and others. It also been said that King even said Malcolm X was right, but the Media and some black don't want you to say that. If so people would start to question what lies have been told about both men.
@harveysuperboy MLK Jr. did re-think his positions once the Civil Rights Act in '64 passed and most black people continued to be oppressed by a racist system and live in poverty. It took ten years and a many lives to destroy Jim Crow, but after Jim Crow was dead and buried racism lived on. If blacks and whites are formally equal in the eyes of the law, why is it black poverty, unemployment, etc. is so much worse than white poverty, etc.?
@harveysuperboy I apologize for not understanding what you meant in your previous comment about MLK Jr. moving in Malcolm X's direction. The thing is Malcolm X moved away from his original positions on those issues, which is what made it confusing. Sorry if you get this reply a few times, the comment system is FUBAR.
I can see your point of view but this movie and Malcolm's life, to me, was a testament to exactly what you said! United we stand divided we fall. African Americans had it hard (and that's an understatement) but we can't resort to hate. As Ghandi said "An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind." Let us not write Malcolm out of our history but use it as a lesson. Spare others the treacherous path he underwent. I'm just proud he found truth in the end.
esse filme deveria ser exibido em todos os movimentos comunitários das comunidades carentes de todo o Brasil, já se perguntaram porque nenhuma rede de televisão exibe esse fime?

I respect your opinion and D.Washington is a great actor but this movie is far from one of the greats. When I ask people if they have read The Autobiography of Malcolm X they reply "no, but I saw the movie" My point was that if people want to know Malcolm's story, they need to read the book.
@sherman546 i will try to read the book, and i will think of you when i buy it. however... let us compare this work to other biographical pictures. howard hughes by scorcese. nixon by oliver stone. the churchill biographies. john adams by HBO. biographies of martin luther king. and many other films.
This film stands out, head and shoulders above the rest. It is not just about Macolm X, it is about America, and how a man can remake himself in the face of not only oppression, but disillusion.
I admit I have'nt seen this film since it's first release and I'll watch it again with an open mind. I do recall a lot of over dramatic/exagerrated scenes that were not true to life. You probably see more in the art of filming than I do. I compared the movie to the book in which the movie usually falls flat.
@phdecora That's because Malcolm X stands out, head and shoulders above the others you mentioned. Nixon is a real scumbag, by the way. And the autobiography is amazing. Sadly, Alex Haley suppressed some of the material because it was "too radical" (towards the end of his life, Malcolm X was starting to really question capitalism.)
@sherman546 Alex Haley suppressed some of the interviews because X became very radical towards the end of his life. He began to question capitalism itself, which is a big no-no. And I agree that Lee didn't do a great job. Then again, how do you capture the fire that Malcolm X had and put it on film without using audio/video clips of the man himself? I don't think anyone could really do him justice.
We're looking for volunteers to participate in a university study of Malcolm X and its spectatorship. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete. Research results will be shared in the future. Just cut & paste the following link (and take out the spaces) to get to the survey. Thanks!
Agree Dr Dro that was one of the most powerful scenes ever in a movie. He as a individual had complete control over those men and more importantly the crowd!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dig' what ya iz saying. Back in those times, da black nig wuz not respected as uh human being an' did not enjoy civil rights ta da fullest cuz o' da repression o' da whitey nig, n' shit.
Well some did use that term. And you have to understand Warner Bros. did not want to show a white Police officer in this movie using the world nigger.Remember around that time the L.A riots because of the Police.
alot of the autobiography of malcom x was made up by haley. even betty shabazz admitted that everything in the autobiography was not 100 percent accurate.
i dont believe this scene happened. i believe this is a made up part for strictly entertainment.
@lafemmenaturalle No that seen was real. It's documented in the Muhammad Speaks Newspaper and it is also documented in a book called "When the word is given" by Louis Lomax!
@lafemmenaturalle While it is true that Haley did make up some things and withheld other information (particularly the last year of Malcolm's political development) this did in fact happen. It is documented elsewhere and there are numerous witness accounts (including that police commissioner) verifying it.
@leeyoutube I have to correct you, the president doesn't have all the power. There's three different branches of powers (executive, legislative, and judicial). That's why it's called a "Balance of Powers."
obviously the third course of action of actually refuting my claims never crossed your petty mind. "i hope that cow.." thats not an insult? lol , you're the one who's confused.
This scene reflects the unity for justice we all deserve, regardless of race. If somebody is being treated unfairly, we should all stand together as a people to make sure the problem is corrected. Thanks for the upload. I enjoyed it. God Bless!
Right there is unity, but Islam has been hijacked by the jihadists and the racialized Nation of Islam. If this movement was so powerful and great then why are the inner cities so chaotic today.
muslim are the best and malcom x knows that even hip hop stars are muslims .mos def.common.ice cube.busta.eve. so think about it and know that islam wil rules the world amen

"too much power" ?! so he ordered about a thin line of harmless monkeys in suits ... you call that too much power?!1! haha... its not like hes napolean, julius caesar or some other powerful White Man... spike lee's gone nuts with his wishful exaggeration to the point its laughably embarrassing.
Have you not seen through this film that it was BECAUSE of Islam that Malcolm was able to find his true self? Or are you too blind and dumb-witted to realise even that?
If it were not for Islam, Malcolm would never have become who he became.
So before you start spewing insulting, racist, degrading comments such as Islam is a path of hate, make sure you understand what you're saying and don't make a total fool of yourself.
Path of hate? Do you not understand how the blacks were treated for over 400 years and you talk about path of hate?
Do you know living through slavery and discrimination and then talking about path of hate?
Have you ever even tried to learn about Islam and understand its teachings rather than absorb the BS the media portrays about it onto ignorant and mindless people like you.
Path of hate? Did you not understand anything about what the movie had to offer? Do you even know anything about Islam at all to describ it as a path of hate? You use your argument as thought it is a legitamit argument and as though someone can discern some reason from it. But all I hear is your pure ignorance and your pure outright racism that insults me to my very core.
History would remember him better had he used his gifts and passion to better causes like Dr. King did ... instead he chose the path of hate that all muslims follow - black or white.
Oppression is not about being black or white. It's about being human. Whites just happened to be in the situation to enslave blacks. But it wasn't being white that made them slave owners. Black or white you're capable of wicked deeds.
"I wish we blacks were still like that." You're separating blacks and whites right there. To become truly free of racism you have to realize that. You're no different than those slave owners.
To correct a problem you first have to acknowledge that you have it.
Every time I watch this movie it makes me feel proud to be mixed. Lol Even though I am still white inside, I feel the emerged pride of my African American heratige.
I really still wish to this day that Denzel and Spike would've won an Oscar for Best Actor/Director/Movie the year it came out, but even w/o the awards, it's still a spectacular film.
If only we had Malcolm X today, instead of Obama.

Well some did use that term. And you have to understand Warner Bros. did not want to show a white Police officer in this movie using the world nigger.Remember around that time the L.A riots because of the Police.
harveysuperboy 1 year ago
@bgblkb I feel you they still use that term just among themselves in some cases.
dal4018 1 year ago
@bgblkb
alot of the autobiography of malcom x was made up by haley. even betty shabazz admitted that everything in the autobiography was not 100 percent accurate.
i dont believe this scene happened. i believe this is a made up part for strictly entertainment.
lafemmenaturalle 1 year ago
@lafemmenaturalle No that seen was real. It's documented in the Muhammad Speaks Newspaper and it is also documented in a book called "When the word is given" by Louis Lomax!
KDHJ44 1 year ago
@lafemmenaturalle While it is true that Haley did make up some things and withheld other information (particularly the last year of Malcolm's political development) this did in fact happen. It is documented elsewhere and there are numerous witness accounts (including that police commissioner) verifying it.

that is too much power for 1 man to have?
what about the presidant of USA isn't that too much power for 1 man?
is that why the usa can't control them selfs and run over the world claiming to make peace.
is there a peace in the usa at all.
why? can anybody buy gun and shoot anyone?

@leeyoutube Dude, its a line in a movie, it means nothing.
GODDAMNSASQUATCH 1 year ago
@leeyoutube I have to correct you, the president doesn't have all the power. There's three different branches of powers (executive, legislative, and judicial). That's why it's called a "Balance of Powers."

obviously the third course of action of actually refuting my claims never crossed your petty mind. "i hope that cow.." thats not an insult? lol , you're the one who's confused.

This scene reflects the unity for justice we all deserve, regardless of race. If somebody is being treated unfairly, we should all stand together as a people to make sure the problem is corrected. Thanks for the upload. I enjoyed it. God Bless!
ceditty77 2 years ago 5
Right there is unity, but Islam has been hijacked by the jihadists and the racialized Nation of Islam. If this movement was so powerful and great then why are the inner cities so chaotic today.

you mean hijacked by the extremists.
correct your self people.. Jihad means struggle and is only for good.

NathanBForrest1776 2 years ago
Have you not seen through this film that it was BECAUSE of Islam that Malcolm was able to find his true self? Or are you too blind and dumb-witted to realise even that?
If it were not for Islam, Malcolm would never have become who he became.
So before you start spewing insulting, racist, degrading comments such as Islam is a path of hate, make sure you understand what you're saying and don't make a total fool of yourself.
Peace.
StingerRecords 2 years ago
Path of hate? Do you not understand how the blacks were treated for over 400 years and you talk about path of hate?
Do you know living through slavery and discrimination and then talking about path of hate?
Have you ever even tried to learn about Islam and understand its teachings rather than absorb the BS the media portrays about it onto ignorant and mindless people like you.
StingerRecords 2 years ago
Path of hate? Did you not understand anything about what the movie had to offer? Do you even know anything about Islam at all to describ it as a path of hate? You use your argument as thought it is a legitamit argument and as though someone can discern some reason from it. But all I hear is your pure ignorance and your pure outright racism that insults me to my very core.
StingerRecords 2 years ago
Stupid ass muslims? You... are... an... idiot. Malcolm X was a muslim too.
StingerRecords 2 years ago
History would remember him better had he used his gifts and passion to better causes like Dr. King did ... instead he chose the path of hate that all muslims follow - black or white.

I wish we blacks were still like that. Oppression is wicked, but it makes strength
Abena20 2 years ago 3
Oppression is not about being black or white. It's about being human. Whites just happened to be in the situation to enslave blacks. But it wasn't being white that made them slave owners. Black or white you're capable of wicked deeds.
"I wish we blacks were still like that." You're separating blacks and whites right there. To become truly free of racism you have to realize that. You're no different than those slave owners.
To correct a problem you first have to acknowledge that you have it.
