The evolution of the Korean combat skills began about 5000 years ago when KoChoSun was established. KoChoSun was a country that started on the Korean peninsula. This country established a strong military warriorship tradition, and their territory spread. Their territory spanned far from the original peninsula, and eventually included all of Manchuria and all most half of China.
It means "way of the flowering youth" as the hwa rang were the cream the korean nobility's youth. (actually Silla's nobility, as Korea was divided then to three kingdoms - Koguryo, Paekche and Silla).
@kmwpa There is no "best" martial arts. Actually you wrote that 2 years ago. So by now, you probably figured that out now. I believe martial arts is about personal improvement and to always try your best. By now, you should've learned to accept all styles of arts though =)
I used to think GM D. World King cranked people up but this guy is a beast!!! Where did this style originate from as I see some of the same locks in aikijujitsu? Man that uke is taking a beating!!!
As far as I know it originated in Korea. I forget the details, but I think it means Way of the Flowering Man, or something like that. I remember hearing something about it being the predecessor of Taekwondo. It's also related to Tang Soo Do, if I remember right. In any case, from what I've seen of it it is a beautiful and powerful style. I practiced Taekwondo for about 6 years and earned a red belt. Someday I'd like to study it again, or maybe Hwa Rang Do.
2,ooo years old.techniques of from UM Yang Kwon. Passed from Monk to monk for 58 generations. Combat fighting style... not for sport...Possible relationship ad predecessor to jujitsu,365 kicks, 108 weapons, 5,000 total techniques.a lifetime to master and then some!
That lock he has @ around 3:50 is one I've used before and have submitted people with in 90% of my grappling matches. I've NEVER seen anyone other than myself do it until now. Awesome!

@rinmankim Yes, and then Korean styles were basically wiped out when Japan invaded them. Nothing left of those old systems.
