his blasting rod looks like a hocky stick...i only read book one and im now on book two...started that one 3 days ago...almost half way already...love 'em
Yeah, the show is a little different than the books, but not in a bad way. In the series, his staff is a hockey stick and his blasting rod is a drumstick. xD Rather clever, actually.
Harry's alot more different than I imagined him. He was wearing a fedora-type hat, and he had a short beard as I read him in the book. Plus, I thought it would be a bit more noir or dramatic or something.
Yeah, they screwed up the tv series a lot, in the book it describes his staffs with inscribed runes, one of which gets blown up by Nicodemus in the 5th book, but they certainly werent hockey sticks and drumsticks. and Where are the Knights of God? they play a large role in the books.
The hockey stick version of the staff still has runes, you'll see them glow in Things that go bump. It's not screwed up. All the changes were ordered for various reasons. I like both the show and the books.
The hockey stick was to be less conspicuous about it. There were a few changes for the show, particularly with Bob but even Jim Butcher felt the ghostly version of Bob worked better.
oh the rumoursa where false bob still as skull thankfully thoughd resden driving a jeep instead of the beetle. yeah bob better remain a sarcastic pervet bob the best thing about the book well after thomas
Why would anyone want a talking skull? Buddy, go watch the original two hour Storm Front and then claim the talking skull is better. What works in a book doesn't always work in a TV show. The ghost is an improvement. I was actually disappointed Hrothbert of Bainbridge doesn't exist like that in the books.
The Jeep serves the same purpose as the Beetle. It's old, doesn't have a great deal of technology in it. It's just more merciful. You see, Paul Blackthorne (like the real Harry) is over six feet tall. So several hours of filming in a Beetle would have seriously hurt his and Terrence Mann (also six feet tall) backs. Not to mention Beetle parts are expensive. The Jeep served the same purpose and was kinder to the actors' spines. I also feel the ghost works better than a skull.
Wow. Just wow. I can't imagine ANYONE wanting a cheesy CGI Skull Puppet in place of the stage icon they got to play the ghostly version of Bob. I mean... why? Just because it was a talking skull in the book doesn't automatically make it better. Do a google Search. Hrothbert of Bainbridge (the ghost version of Bob) has a far larger following than that cheesy skull ever did. The sarcasm and lechery is in tact but the character IS vastly improved.

I was so mad when they canceled this show. They really need o bring it back but start with the pilot as the first book don't make it the 7th or 8th.

Scifi just didn't advertise it very well but the show was actually very good.

The fedora doesn't even really exist in the books either except in the cover art.

the books are soooo incredible and it got me really hyped about this series... only to be let down by the very first episode. *sigh*

Ironically a skinwalker was the big bad of the last book. Just because it's different doesn't make the show bad.

yes, though, I was a little depressed when I did finish it....since now we have to wait till he finishes the next one

I wish the show had lasted long enough to give us their own version of Thomas Raith. I love him.

Bob is sarcastic but he's now a ghost bound to to a skull. Jim Butcher, himself, said it was an improvement.
