I wish America's national anthem was more like Canada's. We just sing about a flag. Canada sings about the their country and how great it's history and people are.

Learn more about the history of your anthem. It came about because the British and Canadians were attacking Fort McHenry in the War of 1812 after the United States invaded Canada. It's not just about a flag, but about the struggle to defend Washington DC against overwhelming odds. Then again, the US invaded Canada first, so you people asked for it ;). Actually, the reason why the White House is white is to hide the scorch marks after the Anglo-Canadian army torched it.

Canada would be far less great without its Scottish roots. From our variant of the English language, to the many Highlander units that make up our military, to the ceremonial bagpipes on our ramp ceremonies when a Canadian soldier is killed in Afghanistan, without a doubt Scottish people and culture are integral to our culture. Much love to Scotland, from Canada.

The colonies that later united to become Canada were dominated by Great Britain, yes, and many traditional symbols became part of the fabric of the country. However, Canada is a blend of First Nations and descendants from French, Irish, English, Ukrainian and many other countries that all played important parts in what we are today. Scottish influence is only one part of the whole.

I don't see how it's ridiculous. I'm not denying the significant contributions of other cultures that influenced Canada, including the major ones you mentioned. All I said was that Scotland made a significant and important contribution to Canadian culture, especially due to high levels of immigration from there. The examples of Scottish culture in Canada I mentioned are perfectly valid. You might disagree over how significant the contribution is, but it's far from ridiculous.
