also, the beauty of the harp and bowl model of worship that IHOP uses is the team leadership--when they do prophetic or antiphonal singing (like when they're going through a scripture), all the singers take turns carrying it. sometimes one singer comes out with a long prophetic song. there's a strong sense of team and sharing so that it's not a one-man show (i teach ihop's harp and bowl model at salem house of prayer in oregon--i'm biased and i love the way ihop organizes their worship teams)

craubbacus--in some churches non-musicians lead worship, but it's logistically MUCH more difficult. there are two dynamics--music, and lyric, and it's easiest to follow ONE leader who is carrying both. if there is one person leading lyric and trying to direct musicians (when they don't know music) it can be very awkward and confusing. at IHOP, a singer who wants to become a worship leader will put in the time and effort to learn an instrument.

I wonder if singers that only sing and don't play instruments can also be leading worship cause I only see people that play guitar or keyboard leading. Its the Lord that assigns who does this and that in that organization I know but I still wonder.

There are some people who do lead using just vocals but they have to know how to play an instrument so they can open the new set with a song. It doesn't happen very often but it did when I was there.

I don't know if I could ever sing this before people without collapsing and weeping profusely right there on the stage. I can barely drive to this song. So holy. I deeply appreciate Mike Bickle and the IHOP-KC family. If ever you see anything by anyone on their team or staff available for purchase-books, CD's, videos--GET IT!! Time and money well invested in the Lord.

I can echo korgmatose1's comment. I made the trip out there all the way from Ohio and Jesus MET me there in some incredible ways. Fasting, praying, worshiping, soaking in His presence... the Holy Spirit ministered to my heart in ways that I so badly needed. I can't wait to go back.
