Really cool. I just saw them this past weekend. They sounded strong ! And in place of Larry was Jules, so even cooler since Jules hasn't toured with the group since the 80s !!! Met them after the show and got their autographs.
In a galaxy far, far away, a garage rock band re-released this song in an amped-up punk thrash version, their name????? The search into the outer reaches of the constellation continues...
brilliant as it is (though Cal Tjader's version on Hip Vibrations kills this) it's hard to believe this would have really adjusted to the vibe of the mid-80s?
I was an 11 year old kid when Windy was a radio hit.......my sister and I LOVED the song and went crazy every time it came on the radio. We BEGGED our father to buy us the 45 single, but he wouldn't. He almost never bought us anything, even though he was making $75,000+ a year at the time. That's okay though, because NOW I can listen to Windy anytime I want! But that son of a bitch is just lying around as creamation dust somewhere! Good riddance!
I had the great pleasure to meet him today and I can assure you he is NOT going bald, on the contrary in fact. He is such a character, it was a most memorable day.
This is great even soo many years after recording it, they still have most of their pitch in singing, though the flute has a bit too much vibretto in it to the origional,
They played at St Frances University just a few weeks ago and the year before that, I was kind of hoping to hear them but could not get of work on such short notice.
The Association are singing in New York City for the first time in over 10 years. The concert will be held at BB Kings in Times square NY NY on Friday July 23, 2010. I have my tickets.
The Association are on tour in 2010. Jan.31 Largo Cultural Center Largo FL; Feb 12 Rams Head Annapolis MD; Feb 13 The Birchmere Alexandria VA; Feb 14 Valentines Day -The Palace Theatre Greensburg PA with Jay And The Americans; March 5 Palm Beach Community College Palm Beach FL; March 6 Florida Atlantic University Boca Rotan FL; March 27 Gateway Event Center McDonough GA.
Beautiful!! This is so good! Have you ever heard a prettier, happier song? And this version sets a new standard. There are new, embellished harmonies here that are not in the original. These make the song that much more beautiful. And boy, can these guys perform! So tight and spot on. I don't know where they're at today or what they're doing, but this performance should insure a permanent place for them as legends in the pop genre.

I didn't realize The Association had all these hits.... I never realized all of them were by The Association. So much great music in the 60's.

The song was written by a high school student, Ruthann Friedman. She has a Web site.
