  • ,so disc 2 & 4 are dvd's which are the same as in your brief case edition?{because you can still get standard def. on blu ray}

  • Hey sean I just rented the Directors Cut Blu-ray of Dark City from netflix and when I tried to watch it it was filled with background static (and as such is forcing me to watch the DVD version, which I don't mind too much) I get the feeling that its due to the fact that my 5.1 system was trying to decode a 7.1 audio track. Did you happen to have any of these problems with your blu-ray, and if you did (or didn't) do you know what to do to fix them?

  • @JPM2875 That shouldn't make a difference, lots of titles have 7.1 tracks and your system should just downmix it to 5.1 without any fuss. Dark City DOES have a horrible transfer full of post-transfer digital fiddling (slathered with DNR, for example), but other than that I didn't notice any issues with the performance of the disc itself. Maybe you just got a faulty disc?

  • @Zaranyzerak maybe, but I've never had that problem with any other blu-ray, so that could easily be the problem. but I've also done some research and I wasn't the only one with the issue. Either way I'm still gonna rent the DVD so I can enjoy the film :)

  • Nice!

  • american psycho was fucking stupid.. waste of damn film :P

  • @Robertahausen I thought it was a brilliant social commentary/satire about middle class America.

  • @Robertahausen Is Paul Blart Mall Cop your favorite movie?

  • @blackbel4T umm.. actually no.., Seven, Fight club, Blade runner, Empire of the sun, Kite runner,.. just to name a few that focus on the enigmatic behaviour of humanity.

Your level of immaturity is not suprising, nor unexpected. The movie was fucking stupid, there was no reason it had to be written as it had been to get the point accross, it was very, very poorly written

  • @blackbel4T Actually no, .. Seven, Blade Runner, Fight club, Kite runner, Empire of the sun to name a few that focus on enigmatic human behaviour. The film was poorly written and acted, so therefore a waste of film, and therefore fucking stupid. You;re so damn immature to suggest that a ridiculous blob in a movie would be my favourite, the only reason why people know about movies like that apart from television is from immature people as yourself. You're a loser

  • @Robertahausen Your behavior seems pretty enigmatic to me. I thought my Paul Blart joke was rather amusing and your retort only makes it that much funnier. Learn to take joke and laugh with it rather than trying to alleviate your insecurities by attempting to insult someone via the Internet. :)

  • @blackbel4T what is amusing is that my initial comment was simply my opinion, remember you were the first to respond, whether or not it was a joke you did not state it as such. I do not have insecurities and as long as there are comments allowed to be made I will do so, I need not bow down and accept anything from someone such as yourself

  • @Robertahausen i thought it was one of the best book adaptation of all time

  • I heard "Dark City" is a DNR mess, is it still worth buying?

  • i love the bargain bins at walmart :)

  • I wish we had a Wallmart in this country, What do you guys think of the American Psycho ending? i mean dont you find it a little lame that its all in his head like he didnt really kill anyone? am i missing the point of that film or something??

  • I don't know how a Blu-ray that good ends up in a bargain bin. Must be a pretty bare bones presentation?

  • @chimpiki Some are, some aren't. Blu-ray has been around long enough that we're starting to see a lot of decent titles in the bargain bins now. You see a mix of barebones and nicely loaded titles.

  • hey paul...... (screaming noises). Get a reservation at Dorsia's now you fucking bastard. I love American Physco best movie.

  • Just got that Blade Runner blu-ray myself. Man, that thing is PACKED with goodies, I'm so happy they handled one of my favorite sci-fi movies with the care it deserves.

  • @FoggySunday Yeah, that set was a loooooonnngggg time coming! Warner definitely did right by us Blade Runner fans.

  • @FoggySunday i totally agree with you dawg

  • What's your opinion on the supposed "rape" scene in Blade Runner?

  • @billyhanna420 I never thought of it as a rape scene. Forceful and aggressive, yes, but rape? No. It was clear from the way that scene progressed that she wanted him as much as he wanted her, but was just scared and unsure of herself. And it ends quite gently and passionately, the "aggressiveness" aspect is really just at the beginning.

  • @Zaranyzerak I agree. but i was mainly asking about what you think about people who consider it a rape scene. hence the "supposed".

  • @billyhanna420 In a word...idiots? ;)

  • @Zaranyzerak Haha. perfect answer

  • Just a good tip if you have not bought a projector yet you want to buy a DLP projector. There are many reasons but the main reason to get DLP is 1. you get truer blacks then you get with LCD 2. the picture will not degrade over time 3. no loss of light because DLP is reflective mirrors.

  • Hello, nice review. I am very curious as too how much space will be empty when you put the Blade Runner Blu-ray into the DVD briefcase. I would like to have the Blade Runner briefcase set, but as I already own the Blu-ray Blade runner, I simply would like the briefcase, and of course, the DVD copy of it is easier to find and much less expensive. Thank you.

  • Zaranyzerak. I was wondering , would you mind sending me a list of great sci-fi films and video games. I can't find a list. By the way your videos are awesome keep theme up.

  • anybody gonna get the Apocalypse Now Blu-ray Full Disclosure Edition is coming out in octuber im for shure gonna get it and nice review

  • @insomnia100 And you have a very ugly soul if leaving comments like that is how you enjoy yourself. I pity you.

  • @insomnia100 and what do you look like? trolls be trollin!

  • i watched this for the first time in 10 years and it was the blue ray copy, just blew me away, it was sex for the eyes lol

  • am i the only person who doesn't like blade runner?

  • Not a huge fan of Dark City, but the other 2 are in my top 5 films of all time. They are going to be my first 2 Blu-ray purchases, when I finally make the upgrade. The briefcase edition is my favorite personal possession. Good reviews, I'm sold (although I was going to get them anyway)!

  • @reclusivesage You might want to wait on American Psycho until a properly remastered re-release comes out. As it turns out, the current edition has one of the most HORRIBLE transfers I've ever seen. Blade Runner, however, is stunning!

  • Plasma burn-in issues are a thing of the past according to my videophile friends, and image-retention is nearly a non-issue too. LCD quality has improved too.

How many bulbs (+cost of the screen,) would it take to make the total cost of a projector the same as a plasma? Something to consider.

Plus, don't projectors have fan noise too?

Of course, personal preference is a factor too. I just wanted to be sure you hadn't forgotten any cost factors. :-)

  • @goldenheartOh That's funny, because a friend of mine JUST bought a plasma set that was a floor model, it clearly had a logo of some kind burned into the screen. Burn-in has been an issue with Plasma since day 1, and still is. The other thing is, I just don't like the look of plasma. So two factors against for me.

Fan noise doesn't bother me, & having to replace a bulb once or twice a YEAR isn't a factor for me either. Plus you can often get package deals that include the screen.

  • i love american psycho...and dark city..i cant find american psycho anywhere

  • Both awesome movies, but after having watched the Blu-rays I'd say wait for new versions. The transfers on both of those were horrible... :(

  • Interesting tid bit of knowledge: The book American Psycho was detested by feminists abroad for its graphic murder passages and its description of violence against women. Then the film adaptation comes out... And it's directed by Mary Harron(a feminist) and the screenplay is written by Guinevere Turner(a BEAUTIFUL feminist) Kind of ironic...

  • Hey Z-man, I just bought the 5-disc blu-ray version of blade runner and was wondering which version of the movie should I watch first? I have never seen blade runner.

  • Oooh, good purchase! That set will keep you busy for a week with all the stuff that's in it...hehehe.

I recommend the Final Cut first, since it's Ridley Scott's "definitive" version. After that I recommend the International version, which is a slightly extended version of the theatrical cut, and finally the Workprint. The other two version watch at your leisure. Enjoy, it's a great film!

  • i didn' know the bargin bin at wallyworld had blurays in them, i'll have to check that out. thanks for the headsup.

  • Also, I share your love for Blade Runner. I've seen every cut except The Final Cut. Is Final Cut worth picking up?

  • The novel American Psycho is incredibly graphic, but it's a satire. It's so funny how he openly admits to the people around him that he kills people, but no one listens. It's like Bateman says at the end, "There is no catharsis" Ultimately, h e wants to be punished for what he does.

  • Holy... I know this video is from February, but I got the 'The Godfather'-BDs for like 50 Dollars or something from the UK.

And that was almost halfway this year...

Not sure if there's much difference between the US and UK versions though.

I believe the only difference is the box.

  • I got the same version of Dark City for $9.99 at BJs

  • I got Dark City for $9.00 yesterday at DVD Plant , Black friday. Looking foward to seeing the transfer to blu-ray.

  • Can you please give me the Blade Runner Briefcase DVD Edition? You can always sell your Blu-ray edition and get the Briefcase Blu-ray Edition.

  • For the second time, NO.

  • Thanks for a great review. It's nice to get someone who's actually informative wrt to DVDs/BLUrays instead of idiots like coolduder who don't seem have a clue and are just wasting peoples time/bandwidth with their blabbler. His review of BladeRunner would probably be "It's about this guy in the future who does some stuff. Stuff happens. I uh really really liked this movie and esp. the toymaker. He was funny Now. pass the nachos"

  • How do they make videos from the 1980s in bluray? :S

  • They transfer the film in high definition, of course. Film is significantly higher resolution than HD. Anything that was originally shot for film is ideal for Blu-ray because of the resolution. That's why we're seeing old 60's TV like Star Trek and The Prisoner being put on Blu-ray - because they were shot, edited and mastered on film, so they have the quality for it. All high definition is is higher quality video. ANYTHING can be HD, provided the source is high enough resolution to benefit.

  • In short, movies are shot on FILM, not video. they makes the Blu-ray from a high definition transfer of the film. The only things shot in SD video were a lot of old TV shows from the 70s-90s.

  • just bought American Psycho on Bluray for 9.99 !!

  • Zaranyzerak, I have to ask. Do you think it was all in Patrick Bateman's head or not?

  • Hey Zaranyzerak, you know Disc 2 and 4 you said they were DVD's so are they region free like the rest of the blu ray discs ? Am from the UK and wanna buy this set from US as its cheaper but am not sure on the region code for them two DVD's...If you can find out then let us know....cheers..keep up the good work !!!

  • Just checked, and found a user review from the U.K. who said that he had no problem playing the DVDs on his R2 PS3, so it looks like the whole set is region free. All other reviews seem to concur, so looks like you're safe!

  • Ahhhh cheers for that....cannot wait to watch this on Blu Ray...thats why I asked you abt the dvd's cause theres two dvd's in the blu ray ver, which you know. I just discovered the film Tron today and went out and bought the film...gonna watch it later on...i bet its one of them films where you say to urself, why the f**k didnt i discover this before !!!

  • You missed out on the Godfather. Ah well put a horse's head on the bedding and it will be sorta like Godfather :-)

  • Zaranyzerak

Do you own a Surround Sound system ?

  • American Psycho is a masterpiece

  • i was thinking about getting a projector, but the price of the bulbs, and the hassle of wiring it up is always a problem.

because you would need to put the PS3 near the actual projector i think, well you would if you set it up in my lounge.

  • Yep, either move the PS3 closer or get a mondo length cable...and HDMI cables aren't cheap to begin with, especially when you get into the 25-50 foot lengths. But then, you're only eve going to have to wire it up ONCE, so...My take on it is, I'd rather shell out once or twice a year for a new bulb, having the huge image size and painlessness of moving later than have the smaller screen for the same price, and the hassle of moving a massive set later. The pros just far outweigh the cons for me.

  • Yeah, ive got a Lcd tv recently, and when that breaks ill get a better one, and hopefully when the newer HD-TVs come out the older good ones will go down.

But if youve got the money to spend, on the full cinematic experience, go for it. I would.

but id rather go to the cinema, for the authentic experience.

But there again, im only thinking about film, games would be incredible, my friend has a great projector, and we played Wii, top notch fun.

  • Zaranyzerak

what is your favourite version of Blade Runner ?

  • American Pyshco is a fantastic film.

  • your rant around 3:55 you failed to mention DLP you can get a 67 inch Samsung LED(no bulb) DLP for around $1500 currently. I got one and I'd say get one while they are still good last model year Since DLP isnt flat about 8 inches deep..gasp they are going the way of the dodo. I was on the fence with projector/large dlp do some research you might be suprised.

  • I didn't mention it because...I didn't know about it! :) Sounds awesome, I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the heads up!

  • cant post links but search "LED DLP" in youtube first vid is a unpacking so you can see the ridiculousness of it. also search

"Samsung 61" HL61A750 and 67" HL67A750 LED DLP Owners thread/FAQ" in google and it will take you to a huge owners thread that will have everything you need to know

  • seriously buy the godfather restorations, i still have the vhs versions, but i want to get rid of them so i will buy the new ones

ps:who is your favorite american director?

  • I bet this is the vid you show to all the ladies you hope to date?

  • Yep, it gets me more action than I can keep track of.

  • New bedding !! id sleep on the floor for that Godfather restoration set.

  • Patrick Bateman is bales best performance!!

the movie aint as yucky as book, but im not abook freak, the movie is excellent.

i have to return some videotapes

  • After watching you review, I decided to buy this 5disc collectors edition BD myself ( I already got the final cut on BD ), now i finally got it but somehow it hasn't that shiny front cover, but anyway its still nice looking!THX for your reviews

  • i agree for shame.

  • Too bad American Psyco looks terrible on Blu. Transfer was disappointing.

1080p projectors truly are awesome though :)

  • Yeah, it's an older MPEG-2 transfer, and DNR-ed into oblivion... Hopefully we'll get a remaster at some point.

  • Yeah.

I'll stick with my old Region 4 Aussie DVD of it for now.

  • Nice. the main reason I picked it up was just because I hadn't seen it before and it was dirt cheap. But if they do a reissue with a proper remaster, I'll likely upgrade it at some point. Good flick!

  • i went shopping for the blu ray 5 disc set today but the only version i could find on blu ray was the final cut, then i went to look around the dvd section and i found the 5 disc dvd set reduced to £20!,so i got that instead,i have the 1992 directors cut but after seeing your review i have been looking out for the 5 disc set ,i might still get the final cut on blu ray later on though, since blu ray is the best way to see the movie, and i love the high def experience!

  • the briefcase edition of blade runner is also available on blu ray

  • I know, watch my in-depth review about the briefcase edition, I talk about all the different versions available. I thought I made it clear that I didn't see the point in buying the briefcase TWICE, since the contents are identical for both formats. I really just needed to upgrade the discs to Blu-ray.

  • Those are all good movies! Christian Bale is an incredible actor and clearly a very intense human being so the casting of him as Patrick Bateman seems apt. He did a fantastic job.

  • Blade Runner SD vs HD is good. The HD version is so much crisper.

  • Dark City is a mess on BRD, the worst DNR victim out there

  • Yeah, I just read about it over on avsforum... Apparently the same team is responsible for the mess that was made of Elf as well. Wish I'd known about it beforehand!

I've been thinking of doing a rant on the subject of DNR and the perception that "grain is bad" for a while now. Methinks it might be time to get going on that...

  • It is the worst thing about HD media, do you go by the same name on AVS ?

  • I don't think I actually have an account over there, I just browse the forums on occasion. But generally I go by the same name whereever I am.

And yes, DNr is most definitely the worst thing about HD media. It defeats the whole purpose of even having the movie in HD a lot of the time, from the amount of detail scrubbed out...

  • American Psycho is a very solid film, but a little off great. It was probably the best they could have done with the source material without grossing everyone out. But Bale is chillingly good as Batemen. Although maybe playing 'unhinged' characters isn't that much of a stretch for him having heard his 'rant' on McG's Terminator movie. No matter what he's like as a person though, he's a phenomenal actor.

  • Its snowing. Looking for jack frost in my dvd collection. One of micheal keatons best movies. lol Are you a quantum leap fan? recently bought the complete box set. Money well spent.

  • Will a blu ray player or PS3 work with a standard def television? Will they both play regular DVDs ? thanks - love your vids.

  • Yes and yes. That's the setup we have at the moment - PS3 with SDTV. The PS3 plays just about anything, even avi and mp4 video files.

  • Z I know what a genius thing to do

post dead space part 13 on friday the 13 th

  • I enjoyed American Psycho I love the business card scene

  • Yes! That was the scene I saw a while ago that prompted me to want to actually see the movie! :)

  • Check to make sure your Blade Runner Blu ray has the work print as disc 5 and not a repeat of The Final Cut. A number of units were shipped with this fault. My copy did indeed say Work Print, but was in fact The Final Cut. Wasn't happy. Anyway, great reviews as usual. Keep up the good work!

  • I checked, it's the Workprint. I remember reading about the mix-up with the discs when the set first came out, which is one of the reasons I held off on getting the Blu-ray version. Seems to have been fixed now, it seems to have been just a problem with the initial batch released - I haven't read any recent complaints, only from over a year ago.

  • Hey Zaranyzerak, are you interested in getting Dexter season sets (The show about the serial killer killing criminals)(NOT the cartoon series "Dexter's Laboratory" of course). Despite lousy extras the show is TERRIFIC plus during Sales they tend to go around $20 bucks.

  • I haven't seen Dexter, though I've heard good things about it. I'll likely check it out at some point (the seasons are on Blu-ray as well), it's just not a high priority at the moment.

  • Hey Zaranyzerak, I was wondering about the Star Trek FILMS on DVD. Should I get the current Directors edition now OR should I wait for Blu-Ray releases of the Films.

  • Well, the Blu-ray versions will be out in a few months, and I imagine we'll get a list of special features well before that. So I might hold off for the moment, just in case.

  • Wow, you haven't seen the Godfather?! Does not compute! haha. I watched them all when I was 12 years old. What's took you so long?

  • Honestly, I have no idea! It's been on my list of "movies I gotta get around to seeing one of these days" for ages, I just haven't got around to it yet... but on the plus side, at least now I know that the first time I see it will be the fully restored version on Blu-ray. :D

  • Good morning, Zaranyzerak! How are you? I just wanted to stop by and say that I've been watching your videos and I've really been enjoying them! Keep up the great work! Also, I wanted to ask, I'm thinking about doing some reviews of my own since I haven't seen a female reviewer yet and was wondering if you had any tips. You seem to know what your doing so I would love any helpful tips that might attract more viewers. Thanks! Also, your daughter is ADORABLE.

    -Tasha (Alucards Doll)

  • i play alot of videogames and i own a panasonic pz80 46 inch and no burns what so ever so the burn in is hard to get on plasmas these days. if you need burnins den youll have to have one frame on for like 10 hours or so

  • Cool, but with a lot of videogames (especially older ones, which we play a LOT) there are things that stay on screen for the duration of the game (score, HUD, health bar, stats, etc.). And playing for ten hours straight isn't so unusual for us... So it's a major concern. Modern games don't usually leave the displays up ALL the time (for that precise reason), so that's probably why you haven't had a problem with it. There's also the fact that we never really liked the "look" of plasma...

  • what other $10.00 Blu-Ray Discs does Wal-Mart have ?

Batman Begins by any chance ?

  • Nope, not a lot of "big name" titles like that, mostly just older stuff. The original Stargate movie (Extended Cut) was there for 10 bucks too, I'll probably grab that one next time. There's quite a few in the 10-15 dollar range.

  • Ooooh, Manhattan Murder Mystery is great. I liked it, a lot of people I know and a lot of people in general didn't like it, but I think it was GOOD! I want that for my collection, LoL

  • I thought because of his performance in American Psycho, you know him dealing with both the person he pretended to be and the vicious true nature of Patrick Bateman that he'd be great as Batman and I was right.

OH and if you're a fan of The Godfather, get the Blu-ray edition! I just got it and what I like is that unlike the DVD version, The Godfather II isn't on two discs and it's in HD.

  • Oh wait I was typing this as you were talking. lol You haven't seen The Godfather. Well once you see it on BD, you'll never wanna see it in anything less.

  • On the Coppolla restoration Godfather II is on ONE disc. It's the old dvd set that it's on two discs.

  • The books great and so is the movie. Fuck man that movie ownz

  • Hi zaranyzerak. Great video as usual. Canada must be the blue ray capital of the world because you show so many cool blue rays like american psycho and cuckoos nest. Theres so many that are not out in england. Wall mart is called asda and theres no such thing as bargain bins and hardly any are out. So want the Blade Runner 5 disc on blue ray but guess what its not out in england. Bought the final cut, the day it came out. Think its time for another shaving day, your hairs looking a bit long.

  • Great video as always!!!!

    Sigh, the walmarts around my area must completely suck, they have no such thing has bargain bins for blu-ray and what they do carry is no more than 10-15 titles ; _ ;

  • broken frickin clips on my tudors...arg!!! sorry...had to vent there

  • Gah! 'Tis quite alright, severyn, I feel your pain... You'd think with all the effort put into every other aspect of Blu-ray, they could make cases that didn't spontaneously fall apart...

  • OMG there's a directors cit of Dark City.

  • oh by the way my name is Miguel if u can tell my name on video hehe!!!! i wanan see that coming man Knight Rider wuuu!!!

  • Knight Rider man! Knight rider hehe i wanna see it when u get it

please record a video when u go to the store to get the Knight rider box set!!!!

  • Lol! Well, I probably wont' record getting it in the store (stores don't like it when you film there...), but I'll definitely dedicate a whole video to the set. :)

  • thanks man!

    i really apreciate it!

i love ur videos keep up!

and i support you 100% man you got my vote!!!

  • Hey Zaranyzerak, if you were to get a full complete HBO set, what would it be (EXAMPLES: The Wire Complete Set, The Sopranos Complete Set)

  • The Sopranos, hands down. I borrowed the first 3 seasons from my Dad a while back and just loved it. Given how well reviewed the Blu-ray of Season 6 has been, I'm thinking I'm going to hold out for the inevitable Blu-ray release of the series and see it in all its HD glory! :)

Annetta is already planning to get he Sex and the City set. She used to have all the seasons, but got rid of them to make way for the Complete Series set.

  • Nice update Z

but how long is it to dead space part 13

  • Whenever Annetta isn't too wiped out from her work schedule. I work from home, so I have all the time in the world, but not so for Annetta. So we basically schedule filming around her schedule, how much sleep she needs, etc. Plus we obviously can't do it when the baby is awake. So there's a number of factors... It's coming (we're going to do the whole game), just not entirely sure when yet. Soon.

  • great update..love the info on blade runner....

  • Yeah, between this and my other Blade Runner vid, I've tried to clear up as much of the common confusion about the various editions as possible. I added the link to those screenshot comparisons to the description, if you're curious to see the difference! :)

  • I am glad you are showing off blu ray Zaranyzerak

I have ran into so many dvd fan boys who just wont give up on blu ray . they always say dvd looks just as good. then i always tell them you need to see a doctor and get your eyes checked..

  • Which reminds me, I should really add the link where I saw those Blade Runner screenshot comparisons to the description... There we go. Added :D

  • Hey Zaranyzerak, are you interested in getting are you interested in getting the Powerpuff Girls 10th anniversary complete set. WELL that is if you like the show.

  • I was thinking of getting that.

  • I'm probably going to pass on that one, I was never a big fan of the show. I know a TON of people who loved it, though. I saw a few episodes back when it originally aired, it just never grabbed me.

  • Hey Zaranyzerak, are you interested in getting the the Godzilla Collection boxset (featuring Gojira, Godzilla Raids Again, Mothra vs. Godzilla, Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster, Invasion of Astro Monsters, All Monsters Attack, and Terror of Mechagodzilla).

  • You bet! I loved Godzilla growing up. I'll likely just get them all individually, though. Like the Bond films, I'd like to have them organized on ym shelves by original release date.

  • huh..I didnt know Christian Bale was in american psycho.

  • Well, you know, he's just the LEAD CHARACTER, nothing major. ;)

  • well I didnt know who he was when I was 12!

  • Really creepy bro. I just picked up blade Runner on Blu-ray yesterday myself. I couldn't wait anymore. It is everything everyone says it was in HD and more. You will be pleased.

Good luck on your projector dude!

  • Great minds think alike! Yeah, I can't wait to see those fantastic cityscapes on our new 106" screen... :D

  • You really have to pick up The Godfather - the best trilogy ever made an looks amazing in HD. Buy buy buy! :)

  • Oh, we shall! Annetta had the old Trilogy set on DVD, it's one of her faves. So we'll definitely be grabbing the restored edition on Blu one of these days.

  • 8:04 Did i hear you right Annie Hall? I know you meant to say Anjelica Huston, in that short review for Manhattan Murder Mystery. Great Detailed review on Blade Runner, Thank you very Much! 5/5

  • I know, I have no idea why I skipped over Anjelica Huston...

And yes indeed! Annie Hall is one of our all-time fave Woody Allen movies.

  • Im lovin it! :)

  • love your videos.

    cool update.!

  • great update as always!

  • cool vid man
