The EU will not last more than a few years..it will collaps.
Nothing in common between the different countries that are part of the EU.. they don't share the same language, traditions, culture, and some are even hostile to each other... In addition, there is no one foreign policy or military that is mutual to all the countries in the union. Most Europeans are against this crappy union anyway, and the only thins that is common to most EU countries is the Euro, that turned out to be a failure.

I never failed to recognize democracy's greek/european origins. When did I write that? The U.S. doesn't have a monarchy (Netherlands has Queen Beatrix). While the netherlands representatives have a more liberal government, and more political parties, this doesn't make their gov't any MORE of a democracy/ representative of the people than the gov't of the US.
The American people fought for their sovereignty and democracy (and it took a long way, black Americans could not vote until the 60ies and they fought too - peace to Martin Luther King). In Europe, not in every country people fought for their freedom. The Germans got it "imposed" by the Allies, and never had a referendum in the past 70 years. East Germany had to accept all Western German rules without referendum. A country cannot become a fierce fighter for demcracy this way.

Here is how I think the Union should be:
1. It should have a president and a more centralised, unified goverment, that would have autorithy in external policy (extra-EU), meaning that if a state's interests in an area are threatened, the Union's interests are threatened, and it responds trought a single voice, not as individual states who's policies contradict each other, but as a hole.
2. It should have it's own army, to complement that of it's individual members.
