billgates is a great man..he offers good products for reasonable price and does not try to create monopoly..he has donated ALOT for education and stuff.. but steve jobs was an asshole..he just made overpriced products..never donated..yes he did give jobs to many ppl out there but not as much as bill gates..
@Willsterdude3000@Willsterdude3000 Yeh :). Apple R'n'D were developing the multi-touch tablet technology in the early 2000s to a stage where Jobs thought Apple could make a revolutionary phone. He perceived the iPhone as a more lucrative product for Apple at the time, one that would really put the company back on it's feet ... and the rest is history. The iPhone success gave Apple the financial freedom to better develop the iPad and incorporate what they learned from the iPhone.
@JamesvonOz No. Microsoft already had multitouch tables in 2006. The HP Courier was reported about in 2008 but in 2010 they canncelled it. Archos had tablets before Apple. And the first multitouch phone with a capazitive touchscreen was the LG Prada Phone. And the University of Toronto and Bell Laboratories did researches about multitouch in 1982 and had first devices in 1990. And even sequencers like the "Lemur " had multitouch in 2005.You are horribly misinformed.
@DerSchachspieler I never disputed any of what you just said. In fact, I don't understand how what I am saying can be replied with the answer 'No' and then justified with points that don't directly relate to what I was saying.
@JamesvonOz You claimed that 1.) Apple revolutionized the phone (which is wrong). 2.) You claimed that Apple developed multitouch (which is wrong). 3.) You basically claimed that they invented the tablet (which is wrong) .

Steve Jobs was the Thomas Edison of the modern era. Primarily a businessman and marketing huckster, with little actually technological know-how compared to his peers. He used the input of his smarter, more knowledgeable employees and passed it off as his own genius, using his position as the face of the company to single-handedly take credit for the accomplishments of his much more brilliant employees. As a strong LEADER/CEO, Steve Jobs inspires, motivates, charms, demands, orders his employees to be the BEST that they can BE (maximize his employees’ potential) for the company, as well as for the customers' benefit!
“My job is NOT to be easy on people. My job is to take these great people we have and to push them and make them even BETTER.”
Misinformation with the description of this video.
The reason why Steve was behaving like that?
The iPad was already designed and put "on the back burner" according to Steve. You know Apple, the never really talk about products before they are released.
Yes maybe but before ipad, i never heard about a tablet. I knew iphone 3gs existed, but i never saw any publicity or anybody with a tablet. Now that apple made publicity, they started making publicity. It's all about copying: samsung galaxy tab 10.1 has the same publicity as apple!!!
@6269352998 Just because you didn't hear of them, that doesn't mean they didn't exist. Microsoft invented them more than ten years ago. Apple only told people about them, but they didn't invent anything.
@SuperHotLarry Not anymore. But if your comment was in reply to someone's "without Apple there would be no Microsoft", then you're right in that Microsoft saved Apple, so today without Microsoft there would be no Apple anymore.
@drphysx Actually, that is a misconception--the Microsoft money that was "given" to Apple was actually an agreed monetary settlement over a patent infringement that Microsoft did on copying the Quicktime program which MS then used to develop Windows Live, and so Microsoft agreed to pay if Apple dropped the patent infringement lawsuit against them, and Apple did, so Apple got paid!
Apple invented icloud: then microsoft invented cloud. Apple invented the first tablet. Then microsoft ivented the windows tablet. Microsoft OWNS a lot to APPLE.
@6269352998 Minor correction here... Apple did not invent the first tablet. They're just the first ones that made it popular. Touch screen devices have been around for a decade, if not two.
@6269352998 Microsoft invented the tablet in 2000, that's 10 years before the iPad. In fact, Microsoft pretty much invented everything that Apple sells today (HTC had an all-touchscreen smartphone running Microsoft software in 2002), except for the graphical UI, which they both took from Xerox.
@TheJosephPrice How is the iPad better, apart from having a bigger screen. It's basically a big iPhone without the phone part. It doesn't have any additional capabilities (i.e. things that bigger screen devices like laptops can do).
It does offer better services than the iPhone and iPod Touch. It offers hundreds of exclusive apps and the memory begins at 16GB rather than 8GB like the Touch(Which is an exact copy of the iPhone). Not to mention most websites you go to on the iPad go to the actual website, rather than the mobile edition like an iPhone or iTouch would. The apps that they share(Facebook, etc) are greatly enhanced for the iPad, with exclusive features.
@Linen0ise Why do you care about the stock price? There's no reason to care, unless you're a shareholder. Android should take over the market because it protects freedom, choice and innovation. That's the important thing, not the stock prices.
@joe04h I dont have to cuz i know my facts...Skydrive was out a more than year when icloud came out >.< u dun know this because u use gmail or yahoo wtev u use. I k this becuase i use hotmail and skydrive been out there longer
@iDeviceHackerPro Walt Mossberg and Steve Jobs were actually friends. Jobs often cited him as the toughest computer critic around, and Mossberg was his first media contact after his liver transplant.
@bramwellt We all have eyes and ears. The video speaks for itself. Both Walt and the woman need to learn not to interject as much when interviewing someone. DeviceHackerPro's comment is the top rated one for a reason.
huh? not really sure why anyone would complain about "post pc" i clearly understand what he meant. It makes sense...it just means comming after the pc. Hence ipod, etc..
It introduced overlapping windows, scrolling, and icons including the trash can. There were colours on the screen to die for(at that time). At the launch, the keynote had to be halted for 5-10 whole minutes before the cheering and fist banging subsided when the Macintosh spoke. It was also the first apple computer to provide a closed environment, come in rounded rectangles, white, and other apple thingies.
It had a disk drive that was more compatible than Sony's. Even Gates, though skeptical of its performance wrt IBM, lauded the design - in both hardware and software. Mac was the first computer to introduce use of mouse for pointer works and eliminating pointer options via keyboard.
OS by then and was manufacturing softwares for IBM and others.. Wozniak built the Apple I and II. The Macintosh was all Jobs and his Mac Group's(the renegade pirates). It was Mac that introduced the fonts, it was the mac that brought interactive GUIs. Even GUI's manifestos: the Xerox thinking group acknowledged Atkinson's design garnished with Jobs' finesse. It was mac that came at a smaller size and it was mac that introduced the first computer to introduce itself via text to speech.
Oh My God! Before you speak and show others just how much of a moron you are, please be a little educated on the facts. The original Macintosh came out after failed sales of the Lisa and the AppleIII. But the AppleII was a huge success. Commercially, IBM was more successful because of the corporate demeanour that it appealed.. Later, on January 1984, Steve Jobs introduced the Macintosh. The revolutionary ad had raised hopes and it met the customers' expectations. Microsoft hadn't built a single
@nyle123nyle well, unless Bill Gates can do time travel, which i don't think he can, he didn't. You can see the idea of tablets in movies like Demolition Man (1993). So no, he didn't gave Jobs the idea. And also I don't think the concept belongs to Jobs either. It belongs to everybody. Stop the fucking Windows vs Apple fight already people. Do some research.
@Engelvonderholle Well actually, noone gave a shit about who's idea is who until Apple started suing the shit out of Google and Samsung. Now, Apple is looking like the asshole trying to capitalize on a simple design that has been around for a while.
People do your research..... Microsoft used to have shares in Apple in the late 90s early 2000s but Apple has since regained all control and Microsoft has no stake in Apple get your facts straight.... Think before you post people
why did the interviewer object to Steve saying"post PC devices?" it s aptly clear that with PC means general computers, the interviewers are not qualified to do this interview.
@johnmonk66 What hilan123 said is true. This was heavily talked about in another interview Steve Jobs gave (I actually think it was in this same one, but I could be wrong).
You youngsters should learn your history. MS Word and Excel were developed on (and best-sellers on) the Mac long before MS had managed to develop a stable GUI - Windows 3.1, which was much later than 1985. What's interesting here is that Bill Gates' vision is actually parallel to Steve's, and Steve already has the defining products in his pocket or slated for release.
@johnmonk66 the man's dead give him some respect already instead of calling him salesman jobs he wasn't a sales man but the man who made the typefaces we have to day so stop hating
The interesting thing is, the direction and delivery of the iPad was honed by the phone experience. And if you listen to this, he is definitely spilling the beans on Apple's goal. They pulled it off, and if you listen closely, he's almost signaling the death knell for Macintosh or as he said "the personal computer". Give it added weight with HP, at the time the biggest PC manufacturer, getting OUT of the pc manufacturing game. Again, Steve was brilliant, in thought or execution.
I find it very amusing that Bill has had ideas about the future for the last 15 years and after a lot of talk, all MS has done is new updates of windows.
@DjSpartacus Your description is bs, because Steve was working on a tablet and after that he decided to put a same type of idea in to a phone. So the iPad was actually supposed to be released before the iPhone.
Please visit my channel for the unpopular truth about homosexuality.
A person does not need hatred or any kind of phobia in order to acknowledge important differences between heterosexuality and homosexuality. Even non-religious people know this.
The homosexual agenda is not good for anyone, including those who consider themselves "gay".
Homosexual activists, with support from the media, have successfuly framed themselves as noble victims; it's an effective way to push a social agenda.
Notice how whenever Steve doesnt want to answer he looks at Bill. At this time Apple already had the ipad in development (it wasn't long after that it came out. Impossible for them to just start developing after this interview). Steve had to keep tightlipped about what he said thats why he kept looking at Bill to answer instead.
@MrPuzWuz imho, it depends on how you look into it though... how we thought things back then (2-5 years) helps us perceive how it would do in the next (2-5years)

As a strong LEADER/CEO, Steve Jobs inspires, motivates, charms, demands, orders his employees to be the BEST that they can BE (maximize his employees’ potential) for the company, as well as for the customers' benefit!

No one really "invents" anything anymore. Everything been basically laid down since the 1960's.
They key has always been "innovation" and doing it right. Once a company gets it, everyone else emulates that success with their own versions.
StraussWyldeTT 1 month ago
Misinformation with the description of this video.
The reason why Steve was behaving like that?
The iPad was already designed and put "on the back burner" according to Steve. You know Apple, the never really talk about products before they are released.
StraussWyldeTT 1 month ago
Yes maybe but before ipad, i never heard about a tablet. I knew iphone 3gs existed, but i never saw any publicity or anybody with a tablet. Now that apple made publicity, they started making publicity. It's all about copying: samsung galaxy tab 10.1 has the same publicity as apple!!!
6269352998 1 month ago
@6269352998 Just because you didn't hear of them, that doesn't mean they didn't exist. Microsoft invented them more than ten years ago. Apple only told people about them, but they didn't invent anything.
drphysx 1 month ago
Microsoft owns a large part of Apple.....
SuperHotLarry 1 month ago
@SuperHotLarry Not anymore. But if your comment was in reply to someone's "without Apple there would be no Microsoft", then you're right in that Microsoft saved Apple, so today without Microsoft there would be no Apple anymore.
drphysx 1 month ago
@drphysx Actually, that is a misconception--the Microsoft money that was "given" to Apple was actually an agreed monetary settlement over a patent infringement that Microsoft did on copying the Quicktime program which MS then used to develop Windows Live, and so Microsoft agreed to pay if Apple dropped the patent infringement lawsuit against them, and Apple did, so Apple got paid!
SJ4EV3R 1 month ago
Apple invented icloud: then microsoft invented cloud. Apple invented the first tablet. Then microsoft ivented the windows tablet. Microsoft OWNS a lot to APPLE.
6269352998 2 months ago
@6269352998 Minor correction here... Apple did not invent the first tablet. They're just the first ones that made it popular. Touch screen devices have been around for a decade, if not two.
Neonemerld 1 month ago
@Neonemerld true ive seen product workers counting their stock on a tablet running xp, before the iphone and i pad came out.
MAZiERNiCKi11357 1 month ago
@6269352998 Microsoft invented the tablet in 2000, that's 10 years before the iPad. In fact, Microsoft pretty much invented everything that Apple sells today (HTC had an all-touchscreen smartphone running Microsoft software in 2002), except for the graphical UI, which they both took from Xerox.

As SJ said "simplicity is the ULTIMATE sophistication":
APPLE'S INSANELY GREAT QUALITY TRUMPS PC/ANDROID MEDIOCRITY!
SJ4EV3R 1 month ago
Jobs wanted to do a tablet first, but went with the iPhone first. The iPad is heavily modeled on the iPhone, just better.
TheJosephPrice 2 months ago
@TheJosephPrice How is the iPad better, apart from having a bigger screen. It's basically a big iPhone without the phone part. It doesn't have any additional capabilities (i.e. things that bigger screen devices like laptops can do).
drphysx 1 month ago
@drphysx

Sephiroth508 2 months ago
It had a disk drive that was more compatible than Sony's. Even Gates, though skeptical of its performance wrt IBM, lauded the design - in both hardware and software. Mac was the first computer to introduce use of mouse for pointer works and eliminating pointer options via keyboard.
Sephiroth508 2 months ago
OS by then and was manufacturing softwares for IBM and others.. Wozniak built the Apple I and II. The Macintosh was all Jobs and his Mac Group's(the renegade pirates). It was Mac that introduced the fonts, it was the mac that brought interactive GUIs. Even GUI's manifestos: the Xerox thinking group acknowledged Atkinson's design garnished with Jobs' finesse. It was mac that came at a smaller size and it was mac that introduced the first computer to introduce itself via text to speech.
Sephiroth508 2 months ago

Engelvonderholle 3 months ago
@Engelvonderholle Well actually, noone gave a shit about who's idea is who until Apple started suing the shit out of Google and Samsung. Now, Apple is looking like the asshole trying to capitalize on a simple design that has been around for a while.

The only reason Steve bashes on Bill, is because he is jealous. Bill knows that and keeps it professional, and Bill thinks its immature.
BORDNER696 3 months ago
The interesting thing is, the direction and delivery of the iPad was honed by the phone experience. And if you listen to this, he is definitely spilling the beans on Apple's goal. They pulled it off, and if you listen closely, he's almost signaling the death knell for Macintosh or as he said "the personal computer". Give it added weight with HP, at the time the biggest PC manufacturer, getting OUT of the pc manufacturing game. Again, Steve was brilliant, in thought or execution.
