  • Y U NEED HIPSTER PET

  • I dont think you can have them without a wildlife permit

  • I LOVE skunks! I want to own one some day!

  • How do you catch a skunk to remove it's scent glands without getting sprayed yourself?

  • Sounds like a cat

  • @spartakittyrules101 They are related to the cat

  • Save yourself 1.53 of your time....the answer is no.

  • I want one sooo badly

  • I want a boy skunk and I will name him pepe

  • the skunk was trying to scratch its nose at 1:42 but failed,so it used a chair instead.ROFL!!

  • Just get a pet bird or fish your stupid idiots skunks are wild animals. regardless of where it was born and you can't train one like a dog or cat....!

  • @METALMAN4Wii Don't use birds in your argument lol.

  • @x3Shantastic Why birds are cool pets, I tell you if you have a parrot your neighbor will think you're a neat person. but if you have a skunk he she is going to think the opposite and probably even call animal control on you...!

  • @METALMAN4Wii where do you think cats and dogs come from?

they come from the wild.. and yes, skunks can be trained. all animals can. it takes time, but it's possible, and would take few decades to make them as tame as dogs/cats, but it isn't impossible

  • they are beautiful creatures but belong in the wild IMO. anything that needs to be surgically altered needs to be left alone. be the same as de-clawing a cat

  • If I had a skunk, I would call it Anansie

  • what a trouble just to pet one stubborn pet >.>

  • I'm getting myself a little girl Skunk in about 5 months. I am pretty sure I am naming her Penelope. :)

  • @SqueedooLaDuh Where did you purchase your skunk? I have been looking for a good breeder and have failed to find one. Please get back to me I would love to have one of my own

  • @xcourtney73x Hi, I just found out that I can't get a Skunk because they are illegal where I live. so you need to make sure you can get one where you live first.

  • @SqueedooLaDuh i read that five months later than you posted it. Do you have it now?

  • @TheWhiteChedda No, we learned that Skunks are illegal where we live. :| Now I have 2 very loved Ferrets :)

  • lol i found a skunk on my front porch and it was eating garbage out of the garbage can lol its still out there

  • OOOOH MY GOSHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

    <3

  • PIERRE!

  • Skunks sound like cats by this definition.

"Do what they want when they want it."

I guess jungle and forest animals differ very little.

  • why remove scent glands from your skunk? what if your house is attacked by a robber or bear then the skunk would come in handy

  • @JBLAKIE1 because most people prefer to have the offenders as the only victims of this deterrent

  • i trapped one trying to eat all my cucumbers in the backyard.

  • @TheAngryGnoll Their scent glands are in there anus....... they release a gas / oil that has a smell so strong it can lure bears away........ they can also fall into toilets, because there curiosity, and drown.

  • Well, it sounds like they would be much better pets than monkeys.

  • The board at the end say's :OVERSTEKENDE EZELS => CROSSING DONKEYS :)

    That's dutch,where was this filmed ?

  • i wanna touch it :D

  • I used to have a skunk 11 years ago and it was so nice but it died :(

  • I was told a skunk in proper health could live more towards the 20 year range. -_-

  • all my life ive been afraid of theses criters but i think if i owned one it would help my fear

  • @tzDub92 keeps the robbers out

  • It's so cute but at parts it looks like a mini black bear ! ahahahha

  • 1:28 is freakin ADORABLE!

  • they want to do what they want it when they want it haha

  • @portagonsagesse domesticated skunks live up to 10 years. wild skunks, only 3-4 years

  • I want a skunk, even though alot of people are disagreeing with the information it still helps alot :)

  • OMG hahahah ;]

  • @portagonsagesse why remove scent glands? seems cruel...... just don't scare them

  • @bbphnix You remove scent glands, unless you want to smell like skunk spray.

  • @portagonsagesse in what way were your skunks unclean? i cant say as iv had any problems with mine but im not sure if im just lucky!

  • @moomins88 The skunk may feel threatened when taken to your home and may be scared like alot of pets are at 1st....

  • @portagonsagesse Skunks are apart of the cat family so they do keep themselves cleaned but i kill skunks out here on the farm cause most of them have diseases shot one the other day that had rabbies n most do in the wild

  • @lordcrusade shame so many have rabies. where abouts are you from if you dont mind me asking? I study them you see so i just need to know where abouts the highest population of rabid animals are. P.S their mustelids, like a badger or weasel. (lol sorry - im sad like that!)

  • We make pets of anything nowadays...

  • Skuntank!

  • Why was the guy putting his skunk in the toilet?

  • Does it ever just chill out?

  • that's a funny looking dog

  • That must be stinky

  • how do u get him or her

  • This video fails to mention ONE HUGGGGEE Problem;

Removing the scent glands is now considerd illegal. No Vets today are allowed to do it. (Just look at the Animal Welfare Act 2006) So Sorry folks, Skunks arent good pets.

  • i want one... i want a lot of pets haha i cnt wait to finish Vet school

  • @ChanelNumba19 My friend has one because she works from home.

they take a lot of time. They cant eat a lot of things. Just expect a lot of work and money. If u can't then dont get 1.

  • @1976tech I work with various wildlife animals before anyway and i finished up working with raccoons but money and time is no problem for me with them. I enjoy it and i get to work with one in april what are some other things i should expect with skunks

  • Skunks are not pets, as cat may be. why cant people understand that?

  • @erikL95 Remember, cat's haven't been pets forever. So why is it so horrible to have a skunk as pet. As long as you treat it right, then I can't see the difference.

  • @MrHaugeification My friend has one because she works from home.

they take a lot of time. They cant eat a lot of things. Just expect a lot of work. If u can't then dont get 1.

  • i like skunks

  • did you get that gland that sends out an aroma takin out?

  • How bad do they smell after the scent glands are taken out?

  • There soooooooooooo cute :)

  • skunks are awesome.

  • Here in Canada they hibernate....so they will be gone somewhere for about four months.

  • PePe Le Pu will keep the kids off your lawn xD

  • "Tappy" was almost 11-yrs old, and was terrific. Never had a problem with him at all. He had either scarmbled eggs, or oatmeal for breakfast, and ate dog food. Grapes are good treats for them, and they usually love attention. He was a great friend, and I miss him.

  • Skunks are awesome pets, but you gotta be ready for the responsibility! they are a handful. I had one and loved it!!! would love to have another one sometime!

  • Reminds me a little bit of Flower from Walt Disney's Bambi. He was so cute.

  • My parents and I aren't getting any skunks at all, because they're musk is so nasty. We smell it at night.

  • Thank God this isn't another video that just slams something as harmless as owning a small mammal.

  • Do skunks make good pets?

For normal people it's simple; No. They respond poorly to the way most people handle their animals, and they require a house is adapted to them, because they like to dig and make nests. Not to mention their complex diet needs. So utterly unsuited for MOST people.

For people who know what they are doing they can make very good pets actually. But for most people they'd not work out at all. Many people can barely handle dogs and cats to begin with!

  • The way I see it, if you have the time, resources and knowledge to take care of a certain animal, then provided said animal is not endangered or dangerous, you should be able to.

However most people DON'T have the time, they might have the resources but might not use them properly, and they have neither the knowledge or the desire to learn, and tend to tread pets as objects rather then living creatures anyway, that can be tossed away when they aren't fun anymore. So best if they don't have pets

  • do skunks have some sort of code about dying in bunches? there was 5 of them run over all within 100 yards? what gives?

  • He is so cute but my mom wont let me get won :(

  • skunks are so cute i want one but you cant get them as pets in chesly ontario

  • A friend of mine had a pet skunk...There cool just like having a dog/cat combination pet...lol...Would luv to have one myself but its illegal to have them descented here..

  • I just have a couple of questions: do skunks shed? and if so how much? also, do skunks like taking baths?

  • @ChopofSlap they don't shed nearly as much as cats and dogs....and they don't like baths anymore than cats and dogs either.

  • that skunk is so cute!! i'm going to bust :D

  • oh this little girl is ssssssoooooooooocute & curious!

  • WRONG!!!!!!! my friends skunk sarah ate her hamster

  • my god it's so cuuuute!!!

  • @JDM867 yea but u have to train it

  • This lady says that skunks must have their scent gland removed but that's illegal in the UK, so what would happen then? Can you still own one with its glands?

  • @ofxxxthexxxflowers According to a doc. I watched recently they only spray as a last resort but the possibility of getting sprayed might be enough to deter most people.

  • I loved my pet skunk. When my ex and I broke up she had custody of it. Dont know what ever happened after that.

  • @ObnoxiousOldFart thanks but I can't have more fish cuz I already have two tanks but I'll do anything for a kitten, still my Mom won't let me have it...

I'll ask around about Beta Fish and hopefully I'll buy some :)...

    thank you you're a really good person\fart... :P

  • @livingonmyon I object to the really good person part, :-P - but seriously, never overestimate a fart.

When I was a kid, I had bad pneumonia and my little greay tabby Steven sat in bed with me till I got well. He'd eat and go to the bathroom, then come back and lay at my feet in the bed. Very sweet cat. And a common cat, not an expensive cat, but he was very sweet. Cats differ in personality like humans (Siamese cats like to scratch eyes and can get very grumpy like me) so if U can get a Kitty

  • @livingonmyon ... sometimes you have to go by personality - although a loving raising helps. But it's kind of hard to tell what the cat will end up being as it gets older. One cat we had was a horrible scratcher and nasty. I wanted to get rid of her, but my daughter wanted to keep her. I conceded. In the last years of her life, that same nasty kitty ended up being a wonderful snuggle bunny, and loved us a lot. It's hard to tell, you know?

  • @livingonmyon When she passed away, I was with her in the vetinarians goodbye room. I couldn't stop crying. She, Kitty, had become a family member. That's the other terrible thing about good animal friends - when they pass away, it's hard to take. Just letting you know. They can be soooo sweet, but the goodbyes are hard because

they usually don't live too long.

When you get married, make sure your husband wouldn't mind you having a kitty. :-)

  • @ObnoxiousOldFart I really can't thank you enough for being so wonderful and nice to me..

I think I can convince mom to buy me a kitten now, even though I promised her that I'll take care of Salwa . I even named her :p.. the name is kinda a rose in Arabic..

so really thank you.. may Allah bless you and your heart :)..

  • @livingonmyon Awww, you're a sweety. :-) And really - Thank you.

  • @livingonmyon If it's a nice kitty, and he's a nice husband, he'll end up becoming fond of the kitty as well.

It's often hard not too. :-)

    Take care, young one.! :-)

  • A little off topic, but I'm fascinated with man's desire to have pets.

And what's even more fascinating is that pets are beneficial to our lives and health. A weird little part of our evolution.

No other animal on Earth has such a symbiosis of taking care of an animal while at the same time appreciating the respect they earn from the pet and the tension it relieves.

  • @littleNorwegians Love and be loved? :-)

  • too much work....

  • Lol i think everyone knows this is a rhetorical question...

  • She sounds exactly like my old PE teacher! O.o

  • They are just like a cat, but more needy.

  • Do they bite?

  • Skunks, they want to do what they want to do when they want it.

  • @blackstudios She mentions that they can be litter box-trained and are very clean. I wouldn't know as I have never had one. They are cute, though.

    Otherwise, much too high maintenance.

  • @LadyRosevanSong I don't think so. The scent gland/spray is a defense mechanism for predators, if it's domesticated it won't come across any predators, plus it doesn't cause any pain or discomfort to them.

  • @LadyRosevanSong People have the scent glands removed so they can't spray.

  • @dewdropsonroses Yeah, but why have the scent glands removed? You know what a great in law deterrent skunks can be?

  • @ObnoxiousOldFart They get thm removed so they don't get sprayed. I don't suppose everybody domesticating a skunk gets them removed, just some people.

And I've never seen a skunk in my life except on tv/internet/pictures so no, I don't.

  • @dewdropsonroses Watch how quickly pesky neighbors move away from you when you take your skunk for a walk. Or when your skunk comes to the front door when mormons come a knocking. hahahahaha! It works!

  • @ObnoxiousOldFart hahaha, yeah I can imagine.

  • LadyRosevanSong, most people who have them as pets get the scent glad removed...

  • skunks are wild animal not pet. this is a cruelty

  • i like skunks but i think fereets are better pets because skunk ARE wild while fereets cant survive longer than 10 days outside

  • i hunt skunks hahah but these ones look sick

  • @oMOHSEN8o House training animals is generally always the same so presumably it would be the same as training a cat.

  • @somerandom128 Which would require no training? lol

  • @MSChelsey1988 Cats do require training :/ Not much I suppose but it's basically just putting them in the litter box etc. Nothing particularly complicated lol.

  • @somerandom128 Every cat I've seen or had found the litter box on its own.

  • @MSChelsey1988 Fair enough but my friends have had 4 kittens in their flat and have trained them a bit. It was just an example.

  • my grandparents had a pet skunk, they say it was like having a cat.

  • this is one of the reasons I would love a skunk, because yes need good food, but when it's needing to be around you, that where i can love and pet the skunk

  • Cute 2 pat and nice looking animal, es[ecially its white stripes but the only problem is that it tends 2 leak from from time 2 time and when it leaks, I mean, it leaks so be prepared 2 run and block your nose.

  • Train him to use the toil like he was trying to at 1:07

  • @TheNoisePolluter i want to use it!

  • she's wrong about the scent glands. its illegal to have the gland removed here in missouri

  • @shinosladybirdbeetle maybe so but most places its legal, its the same thing as descenting a ferrett

  • i wanna skuny poO :)

  • were do you get skunks we have them wiled living near my house but i dont know were to get a pet one

  • I'd love a pet skunk, but doubt its possible living in australia :(

wouldnt want to get one shipped overseas though, too frightening for the lil guy

  • So cutee

  • The Shefflera plant that you see there is a plant that is off the list for cats. I'm surprised you keep it with a skunk. In order to look after my cat, when the neighbour gave Shefflera to my wife, I took it to the office.

  • don't agree with 'skunks' need an operation to remove their glands. apparently there's not an american who questions this practice. it's 'deforming' an animal and taking away it's only defence in times of danger. often these operations go wrong and a lot of skunks have rectal prolapses becauso of it. I have a rescue skunk and it's intact. they will only use their glands in extreme circumstances.

  • @Anjapiranha I've had quite a few encounters with wild skunks and you're right they have never sprayed me even though I'm only a few feet away. They don't seem to exhibit much fear either.

  • Getting the scent glands removed? Wouldn't that just be common sense?

  • 1:08 i almost died!!!!!!!! :)

  • I'm sorry, but I just can't take this seriosuly.

  • A skunk?! Only humans could be so arrogant as to think a skunk should be kept as a pet. Give me a break. I'm going to go look up videos on having pet blue whales!!

  • @jjppmm69 What other species has pets? Shouldn't you just say only humans are arrogant enough to have pets? A camel would never be so brash as to keep a skunk as a pet! This to me is really no different than having a dog. The distinction is there because you choose to make it.

  • @steaknife5 That IS what I said, bro-dog. And although one could argue there was an original purpose with dogs (hunting); I agree with you totally. Somewhere out there I'm sure there exists a pet cricket society with owners who buy products like teeny tiny little cricket sweaters and booties for their pet crickets who live in a little "Cricket Condominium" that some money grubbing corporation markets and sells...

  • Definitely not meant to be a pet if it can forge for itself. Also a reason why I don't like cats, they just hunt outside all day. Dogs need humans to live, everyone should get a dog. Dog is the best pet hands down.

  • @parkourviewer

I totally agree. I prefer dogs over cats; they're much better companions.

  • lol the skunk looks out of place walking around the house. theyre meant to be outside with nature and the other skunks...

  • I just think that skunks should not be kept as pets...

  • I had to fish one out of my pool this morning. fun.

  • skunks do make sweet pets! I am on my third one...

  • why not get a badger? its like a exotic guard dog that doesnt smell like crap

  • wow like my dogs

  • I know they have their glands removed but do they smell in general? Compared to a cat or a dog or even a little skunky smell? What happens when the skunk smells a real skunk around your house?

  • @Kaylawrites They start to cry and then they write brooding poetry.

  • I WANT A SKUNK!! U LOVE THEM!!

  • but what happens if they spray you...? and don;t they stink in general?

  • @adancingBT

As she said in the video, you can get their spray glands removed so they no longer smell anymore and cant spray you.

  • You can get your pet skunk get their smelly glands remove? Awesome! I always look skunk as cute but not as a pet. Hmmm... I may reconsider maybe.

  • @crazyshitonutube they is nothin like that. if they are domestic they make perfect pets they're almost like cats

  • Lol 1:07

They look like fat black and white badgers.

  • they're so cute :) i want a pet skunk now too! but i got 3 cats.. not going to work well...

  • i love them , i love their shape and stuff they just so cute

  • @crazyshitonutube

Annndd.... another one that posts a comment without without knowing all the facts. Pet skunks usually had their gland that produce the stinking liquid taken out through an operation at the vet. From then on, they dont stink or very little and can't spray anymore.

  • Got one living in my barn, I was going to evict it as I thought it was a raccoon or a possum but having found out its a skunk, Its just fine with me , not hurtin nuttin

  • Why's that broad trying to dump the poor thing into the toilet?

  • if i had a skunk, i'd name it pepe' le pew

  • It'd be a lot like having a ferret, they're closely related

  • its like a dog kinda haha:) they are so cute! i would walk it if i had one!!

  • so cute ive been wanting one for a long time where can i get one?

  • Tank you for all this information. It's nice to see people who realy care

  • Cute skunk :)

But I wonder when people decide to have a wild animal. Do you let people adopt skunks from your rehabilitation center sometimes? Not that I'm going to adopt a skunk, or anything, I mean from what was in the video I don't think I'd be a good owner for a skunk, but I was just curious.

Well I'll stop with the ramble. Thanks for the information! ^^

  • @Serasia

Most pet skunks are bred in captivity like cats and dogs.

  • bonjour pepe le pew!!!

  • I have owned my skunk, Monsieur, for 3 years. The first year was difficult, but after spending a great deal of patience and time with him, he became a wonderful and sweet pet. He seems to get sweeter and sweeter as time progresses!

  • Please take note: Wildlife animals are not pets. If you should ever find a baby, do not feel like a hero... call your local Department of Natural Resources to find a rehabilitation facility in your area. These animals are not made to live in a house. Keeping a wild animal is wrong. Thank You.

  • looks so puffy

  • i have 41 pets including skunks theyre gr8 petz

  • but what about the spraying and stuff???

  • @skmusic you get its scent glands removed like it said in the video. that means they cant spray any more

  • i don't want any.

  • You couldnt pay me a million dollars to have a pet skunk.

  • @dominatedface why not? they can't spray you know once they have their scent glands removed

  • @dominatedface I have to agree with you on this one.
