eduardo guadamud can squat 320 kg three times raw, atg and with 94 kg of bodyweight.
And eduardo guadamud is not the strongest weightlifter in the world. Weightlifters are the best squaters, while powerlifters can do best results in bench press raw or geared.
Since powerlifters hold the world records in the raw squat, it's tough to argue that weightlifters are better squatters. I realize that so much of their training requires very deep squatting, but in order to say you're the best at something, you have to perform the best at it which requires getting on the platform and breaking a work record in the raw squat (it's just under 950 pounds and it was set by a guy who competed in both olympic weightlifting, strongman, and powerlifting (Mark Henry).
Try to change your grip - play around with it on lower weights. Also the back should be supporting most of the weight the hands are there to help keep it in place - as you get stronger you will have a meatier back to rest the barbell on.
Not necessarily. Staying tight requires that you bring your grip in as close as possible, and it so happens that some guys with very large torsos and bad shoulder flexibility can't bring it in (which is indicative of other shoulder problems, too).
There's a certain "safe zone," but it's pretty hard to exceed it by being too far "in."
Yes, but that hardly unique to the bench press. Anything involving repetitive motion around a joint without any kind of compensatory mobility, flexibility, and prehabilitation for that joint will result in the joint's motion restricting itself to the zones used in said motion.
Having large shoulders, lats, and triceps will also make it harder to get tight for basic mechanical reasons, but that's not "flexibility" as such (given that the issue only arises when said muscles are contracted).
i havent found that to be true, but i only squat 300.
i should also rephrase, you don't NEED to close your grip in to bunch up your back, you can just pinch your shoulder blades and all that, but it helps.
i squat almost 600 and believe me naturally you pincjh your shoulders back but having your hands spread to the collars gives you a nice little ledge in you shoulders to place the bar and having a hand at each end maximises your base, so the ends dont dip up and down, your hands control it.
Yes, because everyone knows that there's absolutely no difference in scale between a guy who competes raw and another guy with better squat leverages who competes geared.
Yes, deads. Depending on what's causing you to be tall, the deads might suffer horribly while the squat leverages improve immensely. It's not so simple as "tall = bad squat good dead".
fair point, but wouldn't most people have long legs and a short or average upper body, or vice versa, thus meaning that one lift would be good and one bad, but not usually both? maybe its just me and the one person ive compared to on this, but i am 6'3 with a long upper body and shorter legs, and my friend is the opposite, i would think most people would fall into one of the two molds
Correct. It's virtually impossible to have great leverages on both lifts, by my understanding (I could be wrong, though).
Most guys with excessively long legs are that way because of the femurs, and can correct for it by pulling sumo (usually requires that you lift geared for hip health, though; at the very least, you'd want to wear briefs and do a ****ton of glute work to prevent problems). I'm not sure where I fall on the continuum.
haha...I forget he squats since there's so many videos of him deadlifting. It's funny his legs don't look huge but maybe he's just not as fat as the powerlifting stereotype goes. Awesome man.
It's funny how he was all pumped and excited back in the days and now he looks so calm and makes it seem like he's just lifting peanuts.

Are you hands cocked? That is, are they bent back at the wrist?
amarone1956 2 years ago
Yea, me. It's because they are in an unnatural position when you grasp the barbell.
UrizenTheNegator 2 years ago
you are holding the bar with a very clkose grip, you should use a wider grip

true, but guys who do mainly overhead presses compared to guys who mainly do bench press have way healthier shoulders and better mobility.
m1kasd 2 years ago
the closer the grip, the more your back muscles bunch up, the better off you are.
kettlebellconvert 2 years ago
actually the farther the hands are spread the more sturdy the squat, the closer u bring ur hands in the more unstable ur squat becomes,
