el encendido no fue mucho de mi agrado, me gusto mas el de Sydney Atenas y Barcelona, pero en lo que fueron los fuegos pirotecnicos, nadie les va a ganar a los chinos!!
It's amazing that they were able to keep the cauldron a secret - it was in view for months! Message me for details and pictures of the cauldron's contruction.
thanks for posting this. i think NBC cut off too much of the firework coverage. what a pity!! i compare this clip with the NBC coverage. this one shows much better and longer firework. Thank you again!!!
Great video. I had a similar perspective at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. Enjoy your time there. There will never be a time like it again in your life. Awesome job.
Oh, that was soooo beautiful! And the best part was, even if you couldn't be in the Bird's Nest for the opening, what a fantastic view you had of the city's fireworks after the lighting...and to know for certain that these were NOT computer generated!!!
Lucky, lucky you! I hope you enjoy the rest of your visit in China...
I know a bunch of people have already said this, but seriously, thanks for posting this! It was one thing to watch it on TV from the inside, but .... whoa... to get to see it from outside on the ground... @_@ WOW!!!
Great of you to post the view from the outside...bet you will be impressed when you see the videos of how it was actually lit. Congratulations and enjoy your stay...
It seems that other vids are being pulled so, if you don't mind, I'll copy my comments here because I think many people miss the meaning behind the lighting of the cauldron in China's ceremony. The problem is visual illiteracy. Some of us have lost the skill of reading visual messages. China did a great job. Bravo!
Great idea to take the running of the torch off the ground--from a platform that represents the Great Wall, built to keep China isolated--put it on a scroll in the sky w/images of the relay, part of Beijing Olympic history and China's participation w/all nations. The scroll is an essential element in revealing Chinese history and culture. The curled end of the unfurled scroll makes a magnificent cauldron symbolizing the opening of China's communication w/the world. Inspired! Cheers China!
The Olympic flame (light, knowledge) extends from and is fueled by the scroll that communicates China's story. Even the curly pattern used throughout the ceremony is symbolic of this scroll of knowledge concept. Impressive.
The Opening Ceremonies kicked butt. I definitely felt privileged to have had the opportunity to watch. As soon as it ended I immediately wanted to watch it all over again.
I live on the East Coast, so I only saw this about fifteen minutes ago...and let me tell you, I am so jealous of the lucky 100,000 that were about to make it into the Bird's Nest. I would have given anything in the world to see that live....
Better than the TV Version.

the fireworks after lighting of the torch is real?! I heard that it was fake? Cool!

Only those in the perimeters of the bird's nest are CGI (Computer Generated Images) claiming that they are lasers.
Kythos 3 years ago
i've heard that you gotta see it from INSIDE the Bird's Nest, 'cuz it's 100 times better (& more spectacular) than seeing from only at OUTSIDE.
but yeah i know, to get inside is pretty expensive..
